MEET RUBY!
Ruby had a hindlimb amputation much earlier in life due to unfortunate circumstances. This makes management of any orthopedic disease critical. She was referred to our team by Twin Valley Veterinary Clinic last year. Ruby was evaluated by Dr. Zann for a cranial cruciate ligament tear, which is equivalent to an ACL tear in humans. With careful planning and precision surgery, our team was able to get Ruby back to peak performance.
Here is Ruby at her recheck examination appointment, living her best life “tri-pawd!”

Luna's Total Hip Replacement
Luna is a Danish-Swedish Farmdog, who was diagnosed with Legg-Calve-Perthes as a puppy. Perthes disease is a rare condition that causes the ball at the top of the femur to lose blood supply and break down inside the hip joint, resulting in lameness, limping, and pain. Fortunately, Companion Animal Clinic referred Luna to our team in a timely manner so we could eliminate her pain and begin helping as soon as possible.
It has been three years since our team performed a Total Hip Replacement surgery for Luna, and she is thriving! Check out the video that Luna’s mom has shared with us of sweet Luna running her Novice agility course!

Dr. Zann to the rescue saving bedtime one stuffed animal at a time.
One of our staff’s kiddos has a very special penguin who was in an accident. Luckily, Dr. Zann could fit him into the schedule and get him fixed up before bedtime.

Taking the E-Collar off of a patient before the doctor instructs to do so may lead to irritation or infection. Follow all doctor instructions to ensure a great recovery for your furbaby.

11 year old Lab gets a new hip and feels wonderful
If it weren't for his shaved rear, one would not know that Oakley, an 11 year old Labrador, had a total hip replacement 8 weeks ago. Yup, 8 weeks ago!
Before having surgery, Oakley could not go on walks because of the pain he was in. He was reluctant to get up for food due to the pain and when he would get up he would collapse after taking a few steps. His parents had tried everything to help him but he had minimal improvement. Thankfully, his pet parents and his primary veterinarian, Dr. Ehlers, decided it was time to have his hip issues addressed by a board certified surgeon well trained in total hip replacements.
Dr. Tan discussed all options with Oakley's pet parents, and addressed their concerns about longevity and post operative care. Taking all things into consideration everyone agreed that the best thing for Oakley was to have a total hip replacement. One of the best things to happen to him!
After a long road of recovery and lots of work from his pet parents to prevent injury and muscle atrophy(muscle weakening), Oakley is THRIVING!
Oakley the labrador that collapsed a few months ago is now going up ramps, running, and bearing weight on the hip that was operated! His pet parents say, he is acting like a 7 year old dog, not an 11 year old dog. We are thrilled for Oakley and his family!
Nothing makes us happier than getting good news about our patients! Thank you to his referring veterinarian for trusting in us and referring her patient to us! Thank you to his pet parents for allowing us to hep their four-legged athlete! And, thank you to our amazing team for doing what they do on a daily basis!
Metal plates and screws are used to hold bones together after an injury and, in #veterinarymedicine they are often used to adjust the angle of the tibia when the cranial cruciate ligament(CCL) had ruptured. Occasionally, the body will reject the implants or they can become infected. Once the bone has healed, the implants are no longer necessary. When this happens the plates and screws need to be removed. This is one of the few complications that is always discussed during a #Tplo consultation. After an implant is removed, we can no longer use them. However, we do keep them. And, this year the implants were put to great use for the holidays. These little guys are on the #christmastree in the clinic, along with some screw filled ornaments (we’ll post those later), and they are the most indestructible reindeers around! 😁 Thank you to Tara, our doctor assistant, and her family for sharing their creativity with the team! We can't believe it has already been a year since we moved into our new location! Where does the time go?!
After a wild first year, we are thrilled to begin year two with you! We are happy to announce that we are allowing clients back into our building, and if you are symptom free, we will no longer be requiring you to wear a mask upon entering the building.
However, if you prefer our staff members wear a mask or if you would like to remain curbside, please let us know, and we will be happy to accommodate such requests. We are looking forward to seeing you and your four-legged athletes at Sirius Vet!
