MEET CLEO ✨

Cleo, a brave three-year-old Olde English Bulldog, has shown incredible resilience after undergoing not one, not two, but three surgeries at our hospital!

Here is a look into Cleo's journey:
🤍 June 2022 - Cleo suffered an injury resulting in a fractured growth plate in her tibia (shin bone). Our team performed surgery to reattach the bone and relieve her discomfort.
🤍 March 2023 - Cleo experienced a Cranial Cruciate Ligament (CCL) injury in her left knee, similar to an ACL tear in humans. We performed a stabilization surgery to get back on her paws.
🤍 December 2024 - Unfortunately, Cleo injured her right CCL, leading to another knee surgery to restore her balance and mobility.

Through it all, Cleo's strength and determination have been incredible, but it is her loving parents who truly made her recovery possible! Their commitment and dedication to following post-operation instructions played a huge role in each of her recoveries. Their dedication went as far to have custom temporary tattoos made of Cleo for our team, which we absolutely loved! 🐾

We are thrilled to share some exciting news with you today! 🌟

Dr. Horstman recently attended the Veterinary Orthopedic Society's 52nd Annual Conference in beautiful Breckenridge, Colorado. He gained valuable insights, networked with colleagues, and attended several presentations.

At the conference, Dr. Horstman had the opportunity to view Dr. Tan's research on the affect of Femoral Osteotomy on limb alignment, which was on display. Additionally, Parker, a former member of the Sirius team who is now studying at the Iowa State College of Veterinary Medicine, presented a poster on Patellar Groove Replacements.

However, the excitement didn't stop there! In addition to celebrating the success of both Dr. Tan and Parker, Dr. Horstman received thrilling news of his own.

Dr. Horstman has been elected Treasurer of the Veterinary Orthopedic Society! 🎉

This four-year commitment reflects his leadership, passion, and dedication to advancing the field of veterinary medicine. We are very proud of him and can't wait to see the impact he will make in this leadership role.

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Horstman on this amazing achievement! 👏👏

Today, we are celebrating Megan's first year with us!

Megan plays a dual role on our team as both a Doctor’s Assistant and a Customer Care Representative. She was initially hired as a Customer Care Representative, but her diverse skill set has allowed her to take on additional responsibilities as a Doctor's Assistant. Depending on the team's needs, Megan alternates between these roles.

Over the past year, Megan has shown impressive flexibility and skill, excelling in both positions. From greeting patients and answering phone calls to assisting our doctors during consultations, her adaptability is greatly appreciated. Whether she is working in the front or the back, Megan is always ready to lend a helping hand.

Happy first anniversary at Sirius, Megan! 🤍✨

We believe dogs are truly amazing; however, this story will demonstrate just how incredible they can be, sure to leave you speechless. 🤍

Sulley was referred to our team in January for a Cranial Cruciate Ligament injury, which is similar to an ACL tear in humans. However, this story is not about his injury, surgery, or recovery; it is about how Sulley's intuition saved his dad’s life.

In the summer of 2023, every time Sulley’s dad, Andrew, stepped out of the shower, Sulley would obsessively lick the same spot on Andrew's calf. This behavior continued day after day for a month. Jamie, Sulley's mom, had a gut feeling that there might be something more to this, as dogs often sense things that humans cannot. She urged her husband to have it checked out. Andrew was hesitant at first since he experienced no pain in that area. However, he ultimately decided to visit the doctor and explain what had been happening.

After several tests, it was confirmed that Andrew had a rare and aggressive soft tissue cancer known as Undifferentiated Pleomorphic Sarcoma, High Grade. This type of cancer primarily develops near the bone and is often diagnosed at a late stage, as it typically remains unnoticed until it becomes fairly large. However, thanks to Sulley's vigilance, Andrew was able to catch it early.

Sulley didn't just help Andrew—he saved his life. 🤍🐾

MEET MOLLY
When Molly joined her family in December 2014, they were aware she had patella luxation in her back right knee. However, at that time, it didn't seem to affect her much.

In April 2024, after a typical jump from Molly's favorite recliner, she injured herself and was rushed to an emergency veterinarian. Molly and her parents were then referred to our team, where we further evaluated the extent of her injury. Unfortunately, it was determined that Molly had dislocated her hip.

Molly soon underwent surgery with Dr. Zann, who not only treated her dislocated hip but also stabilized her knee and resolved her patella luxation issues during the same procedure.

Since then, Molly has been working hard in physical therapy sessions and continuing her exercises at home. We are happy to report that this adorable 13-year-old Yorkshire Terrier Mix, is now back to her usual self! 🤍🐾

Did you hear about the USA Today survey?⏱🐾

USA Today is conducting its first-ever ranking of the best veterinarians across the country, and we're excited to be part of the conversation! While we'd love to see ourselves on the list, we believe that great care is a team effort. Sirius Veterinary Orthopedic Center collaborates with veterinarians nationwide, working together to achieve the common goal of providing excellent care for patients.

If you have had a positive experience with us or any veterinary hospital, we encourage you to take a couple of minutes to complete the survey. You can include up to ten veterinary hospitals you've visited or received services from within the last three years. This survey allows you to highlight the clinics that have positively impacted you or your pet's life.

The final list of “Best Veterinarians” will be revealed on May 6th, 2025. Thank you for helping us recognize the hardworking veterinarians across the nation! ✨ You can find the link to the article in the comments section below.

Today, we are celebrating Morgan, one of our outstanding Customer Care Representatives, who has played a vital role in our hospital since joining our team in 2019.

Morgan may have greeted you at the front desk, checked your furbaby in for their appointment, or perhaps you have spoken to her over the phone to schedule an appointment. Regardless of how you have interacted with her, it is easy to see that Morgan is kind, caring, and has a great sense of humor. She demonstrates great leadership qualities and is always ready to lend a helping hand to others.

Over the past six years, Morgan has gained extensive knowledge in the veterinary orthopedic field, making her a great resource for our clients and our team.

Morgan, your hard work and dedication are truly appreciated. Thank you for everything you do. Happy sixth anniversary with Sirius! 🤍✨

Since January 7th, nearly 40,000 acres of Southern California have been devastated by ongoing wildfires. As a result, thousands of people have been forced to evacuate their homes, often leaving everything behind, unfortunately, sometimes their pets. Local animal shelters in California are currently being stretched thin by the influx of displaced animals, both wild and domesticated.

To support the local animal shelters that are working tirelessly to care for these animals in need, we have compiled a list of ways you can help support these amazing organizations.

Our hearts go out to everyone who has been impacted. 🤍

Please share this post with your family and friends so we can help make a difference from the Midwest.

MEET GINGER 🐾
This adorable girl is a 12-week-old Border Collie. She recently injured herself after jumping off the stairs earlier this month. Following the incident, her owner became concerned when Ginger was unable to bear weight on her right leg. Given the nature of her injury, our team quickly arranged a consultation, followed by surgery on the same day.

Ginger underwent surgery to stabilize her femur fracture. Since she's still a puppy, we expect her to recover in as little as four weeks, while adult dogs typically need about eight weeks. Last week she had her four-week recheck appointment, and we are happy to report that she is doing well.

We're thankful our friends and colleagues at Valley Vet promptly referred Ginger to our team, allowing us to begin helping this sweet girl.🤍✨
