Let us introduce you to our Human Resources Generalist, Bettina! We welcomed her to the team in May. Although new to the veterinary field, Bettina brought over 12 years of HR expertise and a passion for positive workplace culture. She is always willing to listen to others.

Bettina’s journey has taken her from a small town in Maine to various locations across the country due to her military upbringing. Earlier this year, Bettina and her husband moved from Colorado to Nebraska, where she discovered the Sirius Vet job listing—and we couldn’t be happier she did!

When Bettina isn’t working, she loves riding her motorcycle with her husband, reading a good book, and spending time with her two dogs, Jimmy and Peanut.

Please join us in welcoming Bettina to the team. We are so glad to have her! ♥️

Did you know that the canine wrist is made up of three separate joints?! 🐾

One of our adorable patients, Maverick, fell while running down a hill and sustained dislocations in two of his wrist joints. Thankfully, he was quickly referred to Sirius Vet by our friends and colleagues at Elk Creek Animal Hospital.

After further evaluating and discussing options with his owner, Maverick had an arthrodesis performed. This surgery involves surgically fusing the joints through use of a plate, screws, and bone graft. After diligent care and follow-up by his owner, Maverick is back to full activity.

✨ Here is what Maverick’s Mom (a Veterinary Nurse) had to say now that her furbaby is back to being his spunky self:

“I just wanted to let you know he is doing wonderful on his leg since his pancarpal arthrodesis surgery! I can't believe how well he can walk again! I appreciate everything you all have done for my boy and a big thank you to Dr. Zann for fixing Mavericks leg!" ♥️

Three years ago, we welcomed Dr. Zann to our team. If you’ve met him, you know he is not only a tall man 😉, but also very intelligent and deeply cares for each of his patients. Dr. Zann prides himself on tailoring treatment plans based on the individual needs and abilities of his patients.

If Dr. Zann has made an impact on your furbaby’s life in any way, please join us in congratulating him on this milestone. Thank you, Dr. Zann, for all you do at Sirius and for our patients. Happy third Sirius anniversary! ✨

Today, we celebrate Dr. Tan and his incredible accomplishments with us.

Five years ago, we welcomed Dr. Tan to our team. Since then, he has helped many of your four-legged athletes return to peak performance. Dr. Tan takes pride in providing personalized and attentive care to each patient, ensuring both their well-being and client satisfaction. Beyond his intelligence and dedication to his patients, he’s known to be very goofy once you get to know him!

If Dr. Tan has made an impact on your furbaby's life in any way, please join us in congratulating him on this milestone. Thank you, Dr. Tan, for all you do at Sirius and for our patients. Happy fifth Sirius anniversary! ✨

New Employee Spotlight 🎉

Last week, we gave you a brief introduction to Kayla during Veterinary Assistant Week. Today, we’re excited to feature her in our very first New Employee Spotlight!

Kayla joined our team in May, and her passion for animal care has been clear from day one. She’s eager to learn and grow in her role, and she’s always ready to lend a helping hand. Before joining us, Kayla gained valuable experience through an internship at a zoo and working in animal care at another clinic. We’re excited to see her continue to grow and thrive with us!

Fun fact: Kayla is a talented artist! Her work is very impressive. Check out some of her sketches that are laying around the clinic.

Welcome again, Kayla - we’re so happy to have you with us! 🐾

Looking ahead at the forecasted temperatures this week, it’s going to be HOT!

Please be mindful of how the heat can affect on your pets and keep these helpful tips in mind:

🐾 The Seven-Second Rule - If it is too hot for your hand, it is too hot for your pet.

🐾 Limit Exercise - Keep outdoor exercise to early mornings or late evenings.

🐾 Watch for the Signs - Be alert for early signs of heat exhaustion and heat strokes.

🐾 Hydration - Ensure your pets always have access to plenty of fresh water.

Share these reminders with family and friends to help keep all of our pets safe. 🤍

We celebrated them all week long with Chik-fil-A breakfast, Crumbl cookies, t-shirts, and a lot of candy!

If you have met any of our VAs, please join us in thanking them for all of their hard work.

Happy Veterinary Assistant Week! 🤍

Today, our Veterinary Assistant spotlight is on Emma and Kayla!

Emma was born and raised in La Vista, Nebraska, with a childhood dream of becoming a veterinarian. When Emma isn’t at work, you will often find her with friends, drawing, painting, traveling, and swimming! After six years of working in the veterinary field, Emma’s favorite part is getting to work with animals and being able to help them when they are injured.

Kayla was born in England and grew up in Arkansas. While growing up, Kayla dreamed of becoming either a veterinarian or an animal trainer. Outside of work, Kayla enjoys drawing, painting, hiking, reading and playing the piano. At home, she and her husband have a dog, a hamster, and a frog.

Thank you, Emma and Kayla, for all you do. Happy Veterinary Assistant Week! 🐾

Happy Veterinary Assistant Week! 🤍

Today, our Veterinary Assistant spotlight is on Megan and Tara!

Megan, born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska, has always had a passion for working with animals. She is married with two kids, three dogs, two guinea pigs, and a cat. Outside of work, Megan loves spending time with her family, visiting the zoo, thrift shopping with her daughters, and relaxing at home. With 15 years of experience in the veterinary field, Megan’s favorite parts of her job include being around animals, assisting patients on their road to recovery, and being surrounded by a supportive team.

Tara was born and raised in Nebraska, and always dreamed of becoming a Veterinarian or a Marine Biologist as a child. She is married with two kids, two dogs, a cat, and a beta fish. Outside of work, Tara enjoys hiking, swimming, and re-purposing/up-cycling furniture. One of Tara’s proudest accomplishments is being accepted into veterinary technician school in her 40s! With 23 years of experience in the veterinary field, Tara finds joy in helping animals recover and educating their owners, while continually expanding her own knowledge.

Thank you, Megan and Tara, for all you do. Happy Veterinary Assistant Week! 🐾

Happy Veterinary Assistant Week 🤍

Today, our Veterinary Assistant spotlight is on Kai and Parker!

Kai was born and raised in Omaha, Nebraska, with a childhood dream of becoming a Veterinarian. At home, he cares for two dogs, three cats, and two snakes. In his free time, Kai enjoys playing board games, watching movies, and walking his dogs. A fun fact about Kai is his collection of over 60 keychains! When asked about his favorite part of working in the field for over seven years, Kai mentioned his enjoyment in educating owners on how to care for their pets.

Parker, originally from East Bay, California, once dreamed of becoming an Egyptologist before pursing veterinary science. She has five years of experience in the veterinary field, but her passion for animals began at a much younger age. By the time Parker was 12, she was already shadowing her horse’s vet. Parker is now in veterinary school herself, maintaining a 3.9 GPA, and we couldn’t be prouder of her. A fun fact about Parker is that during high school, she was an internationally ranked dressage rider.

Thank you, Kai and Parker, for all you do. Happy Veterinary Assistant Week! 🐾

Happy Veterinary Assistant Week 🤍

This week, from July 21st to 27th, we will celebrate our Veterinary Assistants and their hard work. At Sirius, we feel very fortunate to have eight incredible VAs on our team!

To kick off the week, our Veterinary Assistant spotlight is on Julie and Shelby!

Julie was born in Chicago and raised on an Iowa farm. As a child, she dreamed of becoming a zookeeper or marine biologist. Outside of work, Julie enjoys hiking, biking, swimming, stand-up paddleboarding, spending time with her kids, and scuba diving. A fun fact about Julie: she has been a certified scuba diver since age 14 and has spent the last 15 years diving at the zoo where both she and her husband volunteer. At home, Julie and her husband have two children, two dogs, one cat, two ball pythons, and seven fish! Julie has been in the veterinary field for 16 years. When asked about her favorite part of being a VA, she said, “The pets! I love getting to know each pet and their idiosyncrasies!”

Shelby was born in California and raised in Omaha, Nebraska, where her childhood dream was to become a Veterinarian. Outside of work, Shelby enjoys playing board games and watching movies. At home, she and her husband have two kids, one dog, and two cats. Before joining our team, Shelby worked as the Head Groom at a show jumping horse barn for two years and spent five years in the human Emergency Room handling patient registration. When asked about her favorite part of being a VA, she said, “I enjoy being in the animal medical field and being apart of a team that helps the injured.”

Thank you, Julie and Shelby, for all you do. Happy Veterinary Assistant Week! 🐾

MEET ALFIE 🐾

Alfie is a sporty 5-year-old Australian Shepherd who participates in dog agility. Unfortunately, in November 2023, Alfie sustained an injury leaving him with a dislocated hip. On that occasion, the hip could be reduced without surgery and he was able to continue sports. Earlier this month, his hip dislocated again. Thankfully Clock Tower Animal Clinic referred Alfie to our team in a timely manner, allowing us to begin helping him quickly. Dr. Tan and his team performed a successful minimally invasive surgery, using a small one-inch incision and a toggle-rod repair to stabilize Alfie’s hip.

Now on the road to recovery, Alfie is eager to return to what he loves most - tearing through the agility courses! ❤️‍🩹

Today, we would like to wish a very happy birthday to our Hospital Administrator, Jess!

Jess is the backbone of Sirius, working extremely hard behind the scenes to ensure our hospital operates smoothly. Not only does she strive to find the perfect additions to our team, but she is also incredibly patient and always willing to share her knowledge to help others.

If you’ve met Jess, you know she is caring, has a fun personality, and her infectious sense of humor lights up every room. Additionally, Jess loves music. To celebrate this special day, we surprised her with VIP tickets to her very own music festival, Jess Fest, featuring all of her favorite bands. 😉

Happy birthday, Jess! Thank you for all you do. You are greatly appreciated.
