This isn’t your typical “no fireworks” PSA — because let’s be honest, if there’s one day a year to blow stuff up in the name of freedom, it’s today. ‘Merica. 💥🦅

But let’s also hear it for the bomb dogs who’ve worked the front lines of the detection world — like Luna, my ride-or-die with a nose for trouble, and a mild case of Federal Way-induced firework PTSD. (Don’t worry, she’s medicated and currently vibing to spa music hiding in the bathroom.)

So while we’re lighting up the sky, let’s raise a sparkler for the K9s who’ve earned the right to protest for peace and quiet on their day off. 🐾✊

Stay safe, celebrate loud (or quiet), and give your working dogs an extra treat tonight. They’ve earned it. ❤️🤍💙

Friendly reminder! Make sure to test your heat alarms! Hot or cold temperatures, test the system!
DO NOT unplug your system under any circumstances and MAKE SURE to check on your K9 every 5-10 mins during this extreme heat. It takes less than 15 minutes for the heat to take your K9s life.

🚨 Washington state is considering a plan to buy and distribute hard drugs to addicts and even have government workers INJECT THE DRUGS for them. Alternative plans would allow drugs users to pool their money and legally purchase hard drugs like fentanyl in bulk.

While the handler is responsible for monitoring the dog’s behavior, I prefer that spotters remain focused on the surrounding environment. If the handler is solely fixated on the dog, they risk overlooking potential safety concerns or suspicious activity beyond the dog’s line of detection. An attentive spotter plays a critical role in overall situational awareness—ensuring full area coverage, assisting the handler when needed, and enhancing safety throughout the operation. After all, if both the handler and the spotter are focused on the dog, who’s safeguarding the bigger picture?

I’m not usually the sentimental type (unless there’s a Labrador puppy involved), but I’ve gotta give a massive shoutout to Douglas & Halbert . Getting together with these two was like forming the Avengers—if the Avengers showed up in hoodies, smelled like K9 fur, and carried hot dogs instead of hammers.

Friday and Sunday? Long days. But these two made training feel like a well-oiled chaos machine (in the best way). From assisting with certifications and nosework to juggling a lineup of our own working dogs that would make Animal Planet short-circuit: bed bug detectors, bomb pros, drug detectives—we had it all!

Special cameo goes to Deni and K9 Tanner—though it’s debatable who recruited who. I suspect she laid the trap and we ran straight into it, leashes and all. Just wait to see what we’ve got cooking—it’s like a firework show, a dog parade, and a caffeine rush had a meeting and said, “Let’s make some magic." Stay tuned for some extreme collaboration!
