🐾💙 SHOUTOUT SATURDAY 💙🐾

Today we’re giving a big, heartfelt Shoutout Saturday to Coulee Region Humane Society right here in Onalaska 🐶🐱

This incredible team shows up every single day for animals who need safety, care, and a second chance — and we’re honored to support the work they do.

On behalf of Wisco Wise Logistics, we were proud to donate dog food to help keep tails wagging and bellies full. We deliver packages all across this area every day — but today we got to deliver something even more meaningful. Giving back to the communities we serve (two-legged and four-legged) is just who we are 💙

Pictured here are Matt and Nikki, the owners and faces behind Wisco Wise Logistics LLC. As a local, family-run business, supporting organizations like Coulee Region Humane Society — and the neighborhoods we deliver to every day — truly matters to us.

Huge thanks to the amazing staff and volunteers for the compassion you show animals across our region. You make a real difference.

Currently, we are treating some kittens with a mild case of ringworm, and these little furballs are available to foster while they recover. Ringworm may sound scary, but it really isn’t, and despite the name, it’s not a worm at all.

Ringworm is a common, treatable skin fungus that many kittens experience, especially when they’re young or coming from outdoor environments. With proper care, medications, and simple precautions, it clears up well. Our team will provide treatment guidance, supplies, and support every step of the way.

Fostering these kittens not only gives them a cozy place to heal, but also helps us make room for other animals in need. If you’ve been thinking about fostering, this is a wonderful way to help — and we’ll make sure you feel confident and prepared.

All these kittens are available as Foster To Adopt candidates as well.

Just a little PSA to start your day.

While we greatly value our community, we want to emphasize that if you find a stray animal anywhere in La Crosse County, it should be brought to us. We are the designated stray holding facility for La Crosse County and the first place pet owners check when searching for a lost animal.

We are always able to take a stray from La Crosse County. Animal Control is available 24 hours a day. If the shelter is closed just follow the prompts when you call, and an AC officer will meet you here to take the stray.

Our top priority is reuniting pets with their families as quickly as possible. Taking a stray to another facility significantly reduces the chances of a successful reunion.

Thank you for helping us get lost pets home where they belong.

The Coulee Region Humane Society’s Pet Therapy Program, Ambassadors of Love, is a volunteer-based, animal-assisted program that consists of family-owned pets and their owners who go into the community to comfort those in need.

Jami and Brooks visiting the Oncology Det at Emplify in La Crosse.

Brooks, my lovable and gentle Springer Spaniel, has been a therapy dog for a full year now, bringing comfort and joy to patients during some of the most challenging times of their lives. One of the most memorable connections Brooks formed was with a woman undergoing chemotherapy at the cancer center. From the moment they met, it was clear that Brooks had a special bond with her. She chemo treatments seemed to fall on the days of our visits. Each time we arrived, her face would light up as Brooks sauntered into the room. He has a unique way of sensing when someone needs him most, and with her, it was no different. Without hesitation, he would hop up onto her recliner and settle himself gently on her legs, his warm body a soothing presence. She would stroke his soft fur and run her fingers through his long ears, finding a sense of peace in those quiet moments together. An animal lover herself, she often spoke about her own pets and the joy they brought her. During the holiday season, she surprised Brooks with a thoughtful gift, a package of dog biscuits from a local bakery. The happiness in her eyes as she handed him the treats was unforgettable; it was clear how much it meant to her to give back to the dog who had given her so much comfort. When her final chemotherapy session approached, I knew it was a milestone Brooks needed to be there for, even though it wasn’t our regular visiting day. We made a special trip to the cancer center, and the moment she saw Brooks, her face lit up with gratitude and emotion. Tears filled her eyes as she hugged him tightly. Brooks seemed to understand the significance of the moment as he climbed into her recliner one last time, resting his head on her legs as she cried tears of relief and joy. His quiet presence reassured her, as if to say, “You’re not alone. You’ve got this.”
It was a privilege to witness the profound impact a therapy dog can have on someone’s healing journey. Brooks didn’t just brighten her days during treatment, he became a source of strength, comfort, and unconditional love during one of the hardest chapters of her life. Moments like these remind me why we do what we do and how powerful the bond between humans and animals can truly be.
