No deer for me yet but our 12yo son got his first deer. 75 yard lung shot dropped it where it stood. We're very proud of him!

Mark your calendar! I will begin accepting calls for DUCKS Dec. 1st, 2024. Don't ask before then! I'll be hunting. Or working on birds already here. 🤪 Thanks for your patience! Slots will be limited as I play catch up from 2023 so set an alarm for Dec. 1st. Until then lay the head on the back of the bird, wrap the feet in damp paper towel, and place in a Ziploc freezer bag (may need 2 gallon size) or garbage bag, remove air, seal, and freeze. Upland people, I have a few slots left so you can call any day.

Bohemian waxwings, like nearly every species of bird, are protected (search for the Migratory Bird Treaty Act list). Fortunately, this window casualty should have a second life in education. Checkout those wings!

What is that?! My best guess is this bird was previously injured and the body walled off the infection. There appeared to be feathers in the dark yellow squishy (yet firm) stuff. Any other guesses? Photos in comments.

One of our dogs had a seizure early this morning. This is video near the end of it. He scared both of us but minutes later he was fine. He went to the vet and will be observed unless they increase in frequency, duration, or intensity. No meds at this time. So aside from the chaos of the holidays I'll be focusing on this guy a bit more than usual.
