Mission Statement
Provide a non-kill alternative to pet owners (pet housing and adoption); offer low cost vaccination services to help reduce suffering, disease and death; and promote the spaying or neutering of pets to reduce the number of unwanted surplus animals. About Us
Humane Society of the Chaffey Community, Incorporated (DBA West End Shelter For Animals), located at 1010 East Mission Bou
levard in Ontario, California, is a 501(c)3 organization nonprofit, no-kill placement and adoption center. Sociable homeless cats and dogs are surrendered by owners who can no longer keep them for various reasons and they remain with us indefinitely until we find them a new home. The shelter can provide temporary homes for up to 200 cats and dogs. In addition to working with pet owners, we rescue a number of cats and dogs from county shelters where they await euthanasia due to pet overpopulation. We receive no government funding; therefore, we depend exclusively on grants, fundraisers, adoption fees, our low-cost vaccination clinic, and your generosity to fund our work. Our History
In 1954, the Humane Society of Chaffee Community was formed by a group of local residents and later became the West End Shelter for Animals – a no kill, non-profit organization, which we refer to today as a pet placement and adoption center. Our Goal
Provide a temporary home where owners can turn over their pet for adoption knowing that it will be well cared for until a new home is found, not killed in a few days. Be an excellent resource for the community to locate and adopt a sociable pet companion, as well as a center for public pet education and low-cost services and referrals to the community. Our Intake Process
All animals are spayed and neutered, brought up-to-date on their shots, de-wormed, and flea treated before adoption; cats are tested for FELV and FIV. Our Record of Achievement
Through referrals, financial contributions, our website, social media, and other outreach programs, we’ve successfully placed over 800 pets with new and loving pet owners all over Southern California. The shelter has seven paid employees, six directors, and a number of both regular and part-time volunteers. Our regular volunteers see to it that all of our pets receive socialization, such as dogs visiting our large pens to socialize with other dogs and taking those much needed walks and general interaction with people. Cats are permitted to run free in the cat building, while their rooms are cleaned. They too can socialize and wander outside in our enclosed outdoor area donated by our friends at the Purrfect Fence company. The cat building houses 38 individual feline flats, each with a window that make up this unique cat oasis, complete with furnishings, such as cat trees, beds, and toys, while they await adoption. Community Outreach via Internet and Social Media
Because of our ever-growing Internet presence on petfinder.com, Facebook, and YouTube, we’re now reaching a much broader audience. People from all parts of the world can now view our cats and dogs and help them by donating any amount (even one U.S. dollar goes a long way) via Paypal, a nationally known and trusted credit card payment service. The dog runs and kennels at the West End Animal Shelter provide ample dog runs around the property for exercise during the day and shade covers for sunny weather. The Shelter has a total of 40 indoor kennels, and each dog has their very own space.
