It has been brought to my attention that someone local is selling “Tamuks” they sourced from two local rabbitrys. Both have raised “meat mutts” meaning they have crosses, kept multiple other breeds on their property & intentionally crossed tamuks with other breeds like Californians, or New Zealands. There was a specific breeding formula that created a tamuk! And once you breed something else to a tamuk you interrupt that crucial formula!
I can not stress enough how important is is to trust your breeder! Ask questions! Ask for paperwork. Yes, some of us keep track of where our stock has come from and it can be linked right back to the actual breeding program. A small portion of us take pride in what the Texas A&M breeding program created! I can only hope you all will do your homework when sourcing TAMUKs. This can and will ruin the breed! Once you cross you risk everything! You may think you’re see larger gains in size, but you’re risking one of the most beneficial traits that is needed for our area. Heat tolerance! Even if you do not buy a rabbit from me, please feel free to reach out if you have any questions! I truly value these rabbits and I’m always happy to help!
