This is Misha, living her best life as a trained support dog for the Garden Grove Police Department Canine Support Program. You can read about this new program in the link below. A quick story about Misha's journey to the USA and how she became part of this new program providing comfort and care to students in need. In the summer of 2020 I imported Misha and Kasya, both adults with all their foreign health clearances from a well known breeder to add new lines to my breeding program. Misha ended up having some issues, so I was unable to breed her - ethically, and Kasya arrived with Renal Dysplasia in one kidney and an extra kidney (found on ultrasound only four days after she arrived). I spent over a year negotiating with the breeder and we came to an agreement that the girls would stay here in the USA, I would have them spayed, find loving homes for them and they would refund me half of my costs and expenses (mid double digits). There is a lot more to this story about the breeder that I will save for another day, but I am still waiting for my full refund. Kasya is doing great and lives with my good friends - I see her almost everyday. Misha fit in so well with my pack I was not in a rush to place her. It was during the lockdowns that everyone wanted puppies or young adults. I had people interested in her but it wasn't the right home for her. Then one day I received a call from Officer Julieene asking if I had or knew of a breeder that has a young adult Golden for their new support dog program. I believe things happen for a reason - I knew these two girls came into my life for a reason and now I know why. My answer to Officer Julieene was yes, I have an adult female that I believe will be perfect for your program. Honoring my agreement with the foreign breeder, I donated Misha to the GGPD Canine Support Program. Misha lives with Officer Julieene and his family. She goes to work with him everyday. Happy 13th Birthday Bentley aka Mr. B. Today we are celebrating life, because March 10, 2022 (almost 3 weeks ago) Bentley collapsed, could not get up and was bloated. I rushed Bentley to Dr. Sebzda (Newport Harbor Animal Hospital) within a half hour. Dr. Sebzda and her team went to work quickly to find out the problem. Knowing Bentley just had a full physical in October 2021, abdominal ultrasound and liver biopsy, which was normal (has been under care for elevated liver enzymes) I was thinking bloat. Dr. Sebzda came back with bad news - a massive liver tumor that was bleeding in the abdomen. Bentley was obviously in pain, could not walk and was in grave condition. I had to make a split second decision - lay Bentley to rest (knowing the diagnostics done so far show no sign of other tumors) OR surgery. (trying to understand all the risks associated with a liver lobectomy, possible blood clots, and the after care). I said surgery, let's do it, because I just knew that day was not Bentley's time to go. Dr. Sebzda got on the phone and found a surgeon at Blue Pearl in Irvine. I drove Bentley over to Blue Pearl and the team of doctors went to work. A full body CT scan was done to look for other tumors or signs of cancer (CLEAR) so the surgeon Dr. Zide proceeded with the surgery. Bentley recovered well from surgery and was moved to the critical care unit where he stayed for seven days. March 24th I took him to Dr. Sebzda for the staple removal and full blood panel. March 25th I received a text message from Dr. Sebzda saying "Best results on those liver enzymes I've ever seen". Then my phone rang - I could see it's Blue Pearl calling with the pathology results - I held my breath. Dr. Zide says. "Hello, I have great news!". She went on to say that the tumor is a Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). I knew from the research I did while he was recovering that HCC had the best survival rate and according to the surgeon and pathology results Bentley's prognosis is excellent. There is always a chance another HCC can grow, but the surgeon said they are slow growing and should not be an issue - something else maybe - but not this. We never know how much time we have with our animals, so cherish each day.

I am sincerely grateful to everyone who saved Bentley's life that day and cared for him those seven days, so he could come home.

Lumikki weaning her puppies.

Please note: Lumikki is a good mom. She doesn't snarl or snip at her babies when weaning. This is her way of teaching the puppies to "not nurse". Lumikki asks to go in - she checks on her puppies and then when she is ready to leave she goes to the gate. This is about a two minute process since the puppies are almost eight weeks of age. These puppies are staying until they are 12 weeks of age. She will wean them over the next few days (teaching them manners) then once they learn to "not nurse" she will start to dry up and be able to play with them for the next several weeks before they go home.

We thought you could use some newborn puppy cuteness overload on this fine Wednesday afternoon. ❤️🐾 Dr. Sebzda, with her incredible expertise, helped to bring these 12 precious puppies into the world, making 12 families very happy. Great job to Dr. Sebzda, her team, and of course momma Vanille on a job well done-you all deserve a big applause!
