Dog training is never a complete straight line upwards. It has its ups and downs, bad days, and regressions. And THAT'S. OKAY.
๐ฎโ๐จ๐ Breathe out the stress and breathe in peace.
And just try again.
Because dog training is
โข Perseverance
โข Consistency
โข Follow-through

These 3 MAIN ingredients ๐
TIME, CONSISTENCY, & FOLLOW-THROUGH
When we dog train or practice good behaviors and habits, we need time to improve and practice, consistent practice, and fully commit and finish practicing. Practice makes perfect, right?
โณ๏ธ We can not assume that without putting any time and work in, we or our dogs will get better at anything. Give you and your dog grace and time to improve on behaviors. It usually doesn't just happen overnight.
๐พ To improve on behaviors and achieve any dog training goal, we have to be consistent. We are clear on what we want from our dog, how we ask, and when we ask; always the same every time, or try to be. For example, every time I walk my dog, I always ask for the same standards and rules - no chasing cats, no jumping on people, no pulling, etc. She knows she can sniff and do whatever she wants except breaking the rules because I have consistently told her what's what by reinforcing good behavior and shutting down poor behavior. I'm consistent with the rules and never let her chase a cat once in a while or jump on someone because she really loves them.
๐ In terms of follow-through, you need to see your training goal to the end! Don't give up! Not only that, when you're asking for a behavior, follow through with your ask (don't stop and give up because your dog is not listening) and make sure your dog is following through as well. So many pet parents fail at this step and hit a training roadblock, the dog becomes 'stubborn', and/or even regress in training and the goal is even further away!
All 3 of these training pillars are crucial in your success of dog training. I use a 3 legged table analogy. Without one, there's no table. With half of one, the table is unstable and lopsided. The table needs to be steady and stable! ๐พ๐ฉต

Happy Monday! Hereโs Taz and I doing basic obedience commands. As Akitas can be a bit stubborn, we worked a lot on his listening through repetition and practice.
