If you are new to e-tubes you may not know where to start as far as what products to purchase for your journey with tube feeding.
Kitty Kollars are often recommended by vets to provide comfort as well as safety with e-tubes & we normally recommend getting two collars so you have one to put on while you wash and dry the other.
Each collar comes with 6 cotton protector pads to use with the collar to keep the stoma more sanitary and absorb any secretions. We also sell packs of 24 pads for animals that may have the feeding tube for extended amounts of time.
Other supplies depend on what type of tube you are getting. If you discuss this with the vet before placement, they can make your life easier if you tell them, you want only a minimal amount of tube coming from the neck (they have to cut the end of the tube that goes inside the cat before the procedure, cannot change it once it is inserted). That way you will not need a double Velcro collar nor an adapter to shorten your tube.
BUT if they are going to use a red rubber tube versus a clear one, you might still want an adapter to allow you to use a wider variety of syringes.
For feeding a cat we recommend a couple of 35cc syringes and perhaps a 10cc for the water flush and a 1cc for meds if needed. If you have a larger dog that will be taking more than 35 cc per feeding you should purchase a couple of 60cc syringes. You may purchase syringe caps for them if you make up all the food for the day in advance.
You also may want a spare tube cap in case the one on the tube gets dropped or lost when you are feeding.
As always you can find our Kitty Kollars as well as all other supplies mentioned on our website kittykollar.com, feel free to contact us with any other questions regarding what you may or may not need on your journey with tube feeding.
