The Orange County Animal Shelter provides safe haven and vet care for hundreds of animals of all ages and descriptions each year. Happily, we have had great success promoting our animals on Petfinder and at Petsmart adoption events. Dozens of animals have been adopted by people who have come from many other states. If so, please let us know! The greater our reach the more homes we will find for th

e animals in our care. Although we are about 1.5 hours away from the Washington, D.C. metro area, it is an easy drive. You can even make a day of it and stop off at country stores, Civil War battlefield sites and a huge mall complex in Spotsylvania/Fredericksburg. And after all, what is a few hours in drive time when you will be meeting your new best friend? If you need help getting here, call us for directions.

***HOPING FOR A FOSTER/FOSTER TO ADOPT HOME***

Meet little Hilda, this 10 year old Beagle, was brought in as a stray and she was in very bad shape. Severely underweight, non weight baring on her right back leg and this girl could not hold her head up. We do not know for how long she had been out wandering šŸ˜ž.
It took a few days in a warm environment to even be interested in eating!
Hilda has had an initial check over by the Vet to get a rough idea what might be going on with her leg. It looks like our little old lady may have a case of arthritis as well as testing Positive for a tick borne illness called Anaplasmosis which can also cause joint issues. She has started the antibiotic regiment to treat and we are already seeing an improvement in her!
We would love for her to have a calm and loving place to nap and hang out away from the craziness of the shelter as she continues to put on weight and get healthy. She did well with our other senior Beagle Peggy, two like minded old gals that like the quiet side of life!
If interested in giving Hilda some much needed TLC please head to the county website and fill out the pre-adoption application found under the Animal Shelter:

Rebel was surrendered to the shelter along with his sister when their owner could no longer care for them. Rebel's sister has been adopted and Rebel is hoping to find his FUREVER home!

Rebel is a 7 month old Australian Cattle Dog/Labrador mix. He is shy and smart little boy.

Rebel had always lived outside so he will need patience and time as he learns the joy of being an inside puppy and learning the household routines, like potty training!!!!

Rebel is an active boy that just needs a little time to feel comfortable in new situations. Rebel does well with other dogs and would love a canine companion in his FUREVER home. He is very shy and unsure of small and young children. We have to recommend a home with older kids that are dog savvy and understand his need of time to get them or no children in the home.

Rebel has been neutered, microchipped and Heartworm tested. We have updated all vaccines including rabies. He has been given a dewormer and started on flea/tick prevention.

PLUTOšŸ„°
The definition of living your best life is right here..this gorgeous guy went from not having the best start to life, to then running at large for many many weeks and not being able to be caught, to being trapped, to coming in to the shelter and being untouchable/aggressive, to this XL meatheadā¤ļø
He was scared, untrusting and not used to being touched or loved on.
Animals are so resilient, we should learn from them..look ahead to a brighter future and leave the past in the pastā¤ļø

Our Story

The Orange County Animal Shelter provides safe haven and vet care for hundreds of animals of all ages and descriptions each year. Although we are a small shelter, we do our best to find loving homes for them all. When funds are available, we offer spay/neuter certificates that help pay for spaying and neutering your pets. Please contact the shelter directly to see if these funds are available. Happily, we have had great success promoting our animals on Petfinder, and dozens of animals have been adopted by people who have come as far away as Maryland. We have also gotten volunteers who live in the Northern Virginia/Maryland areas who will drive down to the Orange shelter and take our animals to adoption fairs in Northern Virginia, Stafford and all points in between. Would you like to join them? If so, please let us know! The greater our reach the more homes we will find for the animals in our care.
