It is with heavy hearts that we inform you that Sunny has crossed the rainbow bridge. Sunny came to us last September from a Salem Horse Auction. Sunny was emaciated and weak. During her time here she was diagnosed with Kissing Spine and advanced Arthritis. The last three months she has been turned out 24/7 to help with her arthritic pain. Sadly, the last month she began to have an extremely difficult time getting up when she laid down, she could not turn on her hind end, and not pasture sound. In the last weeks she lost the sparkle in her eyes and she began to go off her feed. She was in tremendous pain. With heavy hearts, and right by her side, we wished her peace and a beautiful run through green pastures.

We are honored we had the privilege to provide her with the best of care and lots of love. However, Sunny deserved better from her previous owner. She deserved to never go a day hungry. She deserved a good retirement, once her body could no longer sustain a riding career. She deserved not to be sent to auction. She deserved a dignified death with the people she gave her everything to.

The responsibility of humane euthanasia once quality of life has deteriorated, is often left to us and other rescue organizations, when owners are unable or unwilling to do the right thing for their older horses. Loving and having a horse means we have to be strong enough to let them go when the time comes, not rehoming them or sending them to auction so that someone else does what we should do as guardians.

The cost to lay Sunny to rest was $420. If you would like to honor her memory by making a donation, you can do so at PayPal.me/arabianhorserescue Venmo www.arabianhorserescueedu.org

It’s going to be a busy weekend with two potential adopters coming to meet Bakari and Gypsy. 🤞 That there is a connection between horses and humans. Doc has a partial sponsor. Thank you Rachel. We are still needing another partial sponsor or multiple partial sponsors to get to the full mo they sponsorship level. Dancer and Chance are next to start work under saddle. Tickets are now available for our Gala coming up next month. They can be purchased on our website at www.arabianhorserescueedu.org

Friday 8/16/24 really needs a full sponsorship of $200 or multiple partial sponsors. He came to us in 2019 with an extreme case of Stringhalt. He has overcome so much adversity during his rehabilitation. We made him our first and only permanent breed ambassador as well as an ambassador for Stringhalt survivors. Because of him, multiple people have reached out to us over the years asking for guidance with their horse that suffered from Stringhalt. We know that Doc’s story along with our encouragement has saved horses from euthanasia. We always had a full sponsorship for Doc, which covered his monthly feed bill. Unfortunately, last year we lost that sponsorship and with this year being such a difficult year financially, we fear that we may not be able to realistically continue to offer Doc sanctuary during his final years. Doc truly deserves to stay here with us, as he is happy and has been a part of the us for 5 years now. Prior to him coming to us, he was pulled off a feedlot and then fostered for another rescue until he developed Stringhalt. Our best guess of his age is 25 years old. We would not ask if we absolutely didn’t need help covering the cost to care for him. Due to his teeth being expired, Doc is on a mash diet, which cost more than a horse eating hay. Many of you will remember Doc’s story and his journey. If you can help, please consider doing so. Sponsorship of any amount will be greatly appreciated. You can set up recurring monthly donation at PayPal.me/arabianhorserescue or online at www.arabianhorserescueedu.com Thank you for your support.

Progress continues with this lovely mare, . She is picking up her hooves, will flex on both sides (one rein stop), accept the saddle pad and surcingle, and today she learned how to trot in hand. She is super smart and enjoys people now. She has developed a strong trusting bond with Dusty and Janice, the two individuals who are solely doing her groundwork training. Once she has it down completely, we will have other volunteers work with her to ensure that what she learns is transferable. We celebrate the small successes. 💖💖💖

Friday Trail ride. Marcia rode Debra rode and Dusty rode her mare Opal. The horses did great, as usual. Both Bakari and Gypsy will make fantastic trail mounts. Bakari could do limited endurance and Gypsy could long distance if conditioned properly. Both love trails and are super confident.

Now it’s time for a quick lunch for us.

WTH??? This is a first for us. This bit was in a tack donation for the rescue. It is a saw chain correction bit used on draft horses and mules. While, this bit in the right hands is likely not as harsh as it looks, we just can’t imagine why anyone would use it. We will hold onto this bit for educational purposes.

What are your thoughts?

Jeanne has been helping us collect our Bottle Drop donations every week for the rescue!

If you have any bottles to donate you can drop them off to us at AHRE or designate a percentage of your returns to AHRE when you turn them in yourself.

We could use more bottle return donations at this time and always appreciate the kind donations from our supporters!!

Temps are high and Dusty has already put in 5 hours of work before this video was shot…She can’t believe how forgetful she was with names. Everyone is allowed one off day.Summer months we leave horses out 24/7 when possible. Horses that have no shade during super high temps are brought into the barn during the hottest part of the day. There they have windows open at their stalls and aisle fan moving air around. This summer we are using bale size hay nets to allow our horses access to hay 24/7, plus it reduces work load a bit since we are not tossing them hay 3 times a day. We really could use some portable shelters. If only we could get one donated? That would be a huge help and boost in moral. During summer, we pick turnouts twice a day, clean water troughs daily, with the exception of super high temps like we had yesterday, when water troughs are done twice a day. Today everyone got fly spray and swat applied to face below the fly mask. Thank you for watching and please consider sending us a monetary donation. We are not going to lie…It takes a ton of money to care for these beauties. Any amount is greatly appreciated.PayPal.me/arabianhorserescue Venmo www.arabianhorserescueedu.org Thank you so very much.

We love gifts. Nicole Miller boarded her two beautiful Arabian geldings, Rocky and Grunnion at Calcagno Equestrian Center for a couple years before moving. It is this relationship in which she became aware of the work we do. Nicole has written a book, Until Our Time Comes, about Arabian horses in WW2. She has generously gifted us several copies for Dusty and volunteers who would like to read it.

If you want to buy a copy to read, you will find the book everywhere books our sold, Amazon, etc. Nicole’s website which has all the links is http://nicolemillerwriter.com

Thank you Nicole for the gift and for writing about the beautiful Arabian horse that we all love. 💖💖💖

was assessed in the roundpen yesterday. He has a lovely trot and is balanced in that gate. He will need some desensitizing and boundary setting on the ground. He likes to get in personal space. However, this is an easy fix. was also assessed yesterday. Dancer needs to develop more balance in his gaits and moves willingly. He tends to be more nervous than his brother, however, that just means he has more confidence to gain. Nothing that is a big deal, he will come along nicely. has been adopted and has started her new Chapter. We are very happy for her. Thank you for watching our weekly updates. Both Chance and Dancer are still in need of sponsors. You can sign up for monthly recurring donation to sponsor at PayPal.me/arabianhorserescue or on our website www.arabianhorserescueedu.org Any amount helps with the care of the horses. They are eating a ton to get weight on and will need dentals soon. Thank you for your support.

Yesterday we did our first evaluation of and in the round pen. When first working horses we don’t have an established connection with, we like to have them join up first before we see where they are with their foundation training. When a horse is ready to join up, then the basic liberty work can be accomplished as well as they are in the mind set to take in the desensitizing and sensitizing exercises we do with them.

This first session is low key. We give Grace as we get to know them. Meaning, we don’t expect perfection, yet we still communicate clearly and consistently. Both horses moved willingly and beautifully given their lack of conditioning.

We will continue groundwork with these two for several weeks, working up to ground driving, then under saddle assessment. It is important that we don’t rush the process.

Gorgeous registered Arabian geldings. Chance is the bay, his Registered name is WOA HEEZA SHOWOFF and Dancer is chestnut gelding, registered name WOA DANCER. They are 16 and 18 years young and 15 hh.

went out yesterday for another trail ride. This time Dusty rode her. This is her 3rd trail ride with each time a different rider. Gypsy is consistent, loves the trails, loves to lead with a ground covering walk. She can also follow and slow her pace to match the lead horse. This is a wonderful horse for an intermediate or better rider who wants to enjoy trails. Very little spook in this mare. We have been posting a lot about this mare. Please share so we can get her out to anyone looking for a sane, sound, trail horse.

Adoption Announcement: has been adopted by long time volunteer Brian. Brian fell in love with Stella and over the last 2 years they have developed a special bond. We are very excited for both of them. Stella was moved to a barn with fewer horses then what we have, which really is ideal for her. Here is to Brian and Stella and their new journey together. Congratulations!!!

🐴 had developed an abscess on her right front leg. The vet has treated it and she will heal completely from it, and she's already moving around better.

🐴 has her adoption finalized so she will be moving this weekend. We're so excited for her new situation with her long time sponsor and now adopter!

🐴 & 🐴 are moving over to us from the quarantine barn on Sunday.

We had a potential adopter come look at 🐴 & 🐴 and another interested party coming soon. They are both great prospects, great on trails and great all round partners.

🐴 is still at his under saddle training and progressing very well. He has a collected walk & trot, he's very sensible, he's now working on his transitions into the canter. He could be shown in the open circuit for western pleasure (he's not registered with the Arabian Horse Association), or he could do endurance as he's a strong, mighty guy! He's cute, sensible, a clean slate, and excelling in his training - he'll be available soon also!

🐔Lady Gaga is a satin feathered bantam silkie with feathered legs and 5 toes!

07/17/2024

is such a trusting mare. She prefers trails over arena work. We have had multiple people riding her in the arena and on the trail. Yesterday she crossed a creek and walked over the suspension bridge. She has a nice efficient trot, is super sound, and could blaze the trails or even do some endurance.

Gypsy is available for adoption.

Age: 16-18 years young
Height: 14.3 hh
Breed: Arabian Quarter Horse.

is READY FOR ADOPTION. 🐎 She's a 14.3h tall, beautiful bay mare. She is looking for an intermediate to advanced rider as she can be slightly stubborn about getting going. She doesn't love to trot in the arena, but really enjoys and is fabulous on the trails.

Dusty runs through some of the desensitizing exercises she does with the horses- rope over her back, rope around the legs, rope hitting the ground nearby, then with the flag around her - she is very solid, sound, ready to be a trail partner. She's a gem!!

🐓Dusty also introduced us to her “no name” olive egger chicken- she is a cutie with blue and puffy cheeks.

is putting on weight at our quarantine barn. His skin is doing better and his eyes are clearing up. He's easy to handle and accepts the fly spray.

is more standoffish, but he's gaining weight on his alfalfa. He had a bad skin condition on his face and chest, which Dusty is treating with medicated shampoo. His face is looking a lot better. The bite marks he came in with are also healing. We are getting fly spray on him with a little bit of work.
Dancer had a colic bout which he recovered from, but still may be a bit traumatized by that.

WHEW!!! We made it through some extreme temperatures the last 6 days. Lots of work keeping our horses hydrated and comfortable. Unfortunately, we were unable to work horses as temps were high, and honestly, it was to hot for us too.

Yesterday Dusty and Jennifer showed the horses love by making their lower face/muzzles pink. We use fly mask to keep flies out of eyes. To keep flies off their muzzles we put swat on them. This is rocking her pink nose. We love all our horses so very much. 💖💖💖

We also apply fly spray. That is so expensive with little lasting results. Anyone have a great fly remedy that does not cost a fortune and actually works longer than one day?

07/06/2024

Thanks for watching our weekly update.

is available for adoption as a companion horse. Beautiful rich palamino color, she glistens. She does require some maintenance, like soaked hay pellets, however, not much as she seems to gain weight breathing air. It floors us how she was emaciated when arriving. She must not have been fed at all.

is sound, and is a good riding horse. He is ready to be adopted. He is a safe trail and arena horse for an intermediate or better rider.

This mare is getting better and better. She loves trail riding. Not so much arena work, though she will do it. Sound mare with a very efficient ground covering trot. Could be an amazing trail horse and even do endurance. She is ready for adoption now.

This little mare is doing great with groundwork. She exudes Arabian essence. Just a lovely mare that is broke to ride. Will be available soon.

Thank you again for joining us. The hot temperature is zapping us. We are doing everything we can to keep the horses comfortable.

The two new intakes are already looking better. Dancer’s skin issue is improving. They both have put on some weight, and mentally, they are decompressing at our quarantine barn, which is quiet and peaceful. A huge thank you to those who have donated towards their care.

We have spoken to the breeder who had them up to 2 years ago. We also spoke to their previous owner, who after a bad accident in which she could not physical care for them for many months, surrendered them to By His Grace Equine Rescue in Idaho with the agreement they would have lifelong sanctuary there.
We were able to get more information on their training, which will help as we start working them.

WHERE DO WE START…we were contacted on Wednesday by a lady who said she had 2 Arabian geldings that if she did not sell, would be sent to the Vale Livestock Auction on Friday. Knowing if that happened they would most likely end up in a terrible situation, we agreed to take them. We paid $500 for the pair. We call this “auction intercept”. We do pay for them, however, we spare them the trauma of auction and protect them from ending up with a kill buyer, feedlot owner, or a flipper.

We did not expect the horses to be in the condition they are in.
🐎 WOA DANCER, barn name Dancer (chestnut) is thin and has a serious skin issue on his face and chest. We are treating it with medicated shampoo. He is a 18 year young broke to ride gelding.
🐎 WOA HEEZA SHOWOFF, barn name Chance (Bay) is also thin and had very goopy eyes. We cleaned his eyes and put a fly mask on him. We are happy to report that his eyes remain clear. He is a 16 year young broke to ride gelding.

Both geldings look like they have been run through the wringer. They are riddled with bite marks. The photos do not show the extent of their condition.

They have been easy for us to handle. Chance walking right up to us for attention and haltering. Dancer is a bit more standoffish, however, with a little reassurance, he too can be haltered.

We have spoken to their breeder who had them up until 2 years ago. The geldings will remain in our care. It really helped speaking with her, as now we have knowledge of most of their background. They will stay at our quarantine barn until we are completely sure they are not carrying anything that can spread to our healthy horses.

We are not seeing issues on the ground. We are hopeful that the issues under saddle are due to any number of scenarios that can be resolved once handled appropriately. We do see at times that there are people who are just not a good fit with the Arabian breed.

Funding has been slow this year, as with most other organizations. We could really use your support to provide the care they need to regain their health. Donations in any amount are greatly appreciated. You could also become a monthly sponsor of one or both of these handsome horses.
