We are reaching out for sponsors for different members of the herd especially the high needs and sanctuary horses. Each horse will have a listing of all their medications and needs that are required each month to take care of them. You can make a one time donation or a monthly sponsorship. Monthly sponsorships of $75 or more will get you an update along with pictures of your horse.

We are first reaching out for beautiful Solid. Solid came to us last year and we did not realize that she would have so many medical issues that we had to address. From bloodwork to ongoing maintenance we made a commitment to try to help her. Now we need your help to be able to continue to support this horse.

To read more about her and/of donate, text SOLID to 707070 or visit

Lots of fun at the barn.

A barn woman’s bug day:

Helping a student I looked down and a grasshopper was just by the horses hoof. I couldn’t see an innocent grasshopper squished…scoot him with a boot, he going on for dear life, Alyssa scooped him off and set him free.

Next I was pulling weeds and stirred up a ground hornets nest. Ever seen an angry nest of bees. I was bent over and saw one of the horses jump around and run like something was chasing her. It took a quick second to realize what it was, the first sting, and then they were coming after me. A short distance…no good he was out for blood… off to the lower pasture…stop, more stings, told the girls to leave…I knew they really wanted me…the guard was stinging through my clothes…for a split second I thought I was going to need to strip in the pasture if he got in my clothes…not a pretty picture…than I started splashing water in the trough…Alyssa was there, save yourself I said…I stopped splashing thinking he was gone…oh no! More water splashing…what’s the plan… back past the nest…I knew deep down they wanted me…do I crawl in the horse trough…more splashing…finally they gave up, probably because Austin was back with bee killer…still I couldn’t pass the nest I had their angry scent on me from the stings…through the neighbor’s gate, off through another neighbor’s yard… through the trees, through a spiders web (eeewww!)…crawl through the fence…than for baking soda and water paste.

Last, change boots to finally go home and felt something in my boot….a stink bug!!! Eeewww again!!! Grasshoppers, bees, spiders, and stink bugs…oh my!!!

Faelin update:

Faelin is still at OSU. She has passed her colic however her creatinine (kidney) number was elevated. Unfortunately, yesterday she was not able to come home as even with all the fluid she was getting through IV she was still drinking extra water however her number was in the normal range. This is not normal for them to want to drink extra. Hopefully her number stays down and she doesn’t continue to drink excess water. Dr. Alevy really felt it was important that she stay an extra day. As far as her numbers for her post peritonitis check up (remember she was scheduled for that on Monday before she coliced), they are now at 9400. Still not in the normal range, but they are continuing to come down. At this time, there is no real answer for why they’re not normal yet.
Please consider donating by texting FAELIN at 707070

Faelin had a Colic scare on Sunday the Day Before her Follow Up for the Peritonitis

Sunday afternoon Faelin appeared to be colicing. This is the day before she was to go in for her follow up belly tap and bloodwork fo her peritonitis. After monitoring her heart rate, symptoms, and calling OSU it was decided to get her right down to the emergency hospital. Her heart rate had gone up to 76, she was trying to lay down while being led, and she was starting to paw the ground all signs of pain and distress. Upon intake they agreed she was colicing and did a thorough exam: Bloodwork, ultrasound, re**al, and belly tap. Lots of positive results from various test and the re**al showed a not too large softer impaction by her colon. While they can only go so far they were able to feel confident that this is what it was. They tubed her and gave her electrolytes and Epsom salts and felt that would resolve things. She was still very uncomfortable while I was with her so they gave some pain relief. It did not work as hoped so they put in an IV with fluids and Lidocaine. This seemed to give her relief (thank goodness!). Yesterday she was doing well and they are hopeful that impaction has cleared. She was so UPSET yesterday while I was there because she wanted food (her favorite thing). She tried to eat Illyona's hair and told me in no uncertain terms she needed food. Last night there going to start to reintroduce food slowly along with continuing the fluids. If everything goes well today she can come home tomorrow.

As far as the peritonitis they say she "is not reading the book". Her numbers are down to 9,4000-9,900 however this is still not normal. There is no sign of increased bacteria growth or infection. There is inflammation and they do not have an answer for what is going on and why the numbers are going down however slowly. They can make guesses but no answers. We are waiting for the culture results. From there we will need to have another follow up it looks like, continue monitoring, etc. I won't go into any speculations as that's what it would be.

I know you have all give so much, however I am asking once again to please share, donate if you see it in your heart and are able to help, and be creative on ways we might be able to increase the reach of our program! Thank you for all the help you have already given to help our barn Diva...Faelin!
