I'm a little disappointed in lack of common courtesy, but tonight is second night in a row the back door of the barn got knocked off the tracks and no one had courtesy to tell me it had happened 😔 if a mistake happens please tell us so we can fix it!

A bit of a soapbox here but everyone always asks what they can do to be more competitive and I see a lot of people skipping the absolute most basic things you can do to make yourself and your horse perform better.

✅ Are you getting enough sleep? If you know you're competing the next morning especially it's not the night to stay up until 1 am.

✅ Are you eating to the best of your ability? I am not a perfect example of this, I love my McDonald's and ice cream, but especially on show days I try to watch that I'm eating what I need to for my body to function. This especially goes for kids - when I'm coaching trying to deal with sugar crashes is never fun. You already are getting an adrenaline pump showing, if you're already shaking and buzzed up it's never a good combo. I also completely cut out alcohol. It got embarrassing trying to show with a hangover. If you're there to win you can at least save the celebration for once the show is over. For me personally totally cutting alcohol out has improved my life drastically. No judgement for those that enjoy drinking, but it certainly can interfere with how you compete.

✅ Are you putting in the saddle time to prepare? A lot of finished horses don't need schooled a lot on their job, but they perform better when fit. You also can't expect your body to keep up at shows if you aren't putting in some saddle time during the week. Change your routine up. We try to haul our show horses out on the trails when we can and keep it interesting.

✅ Make a checklist and make sure you have all the things you need. Nothing sabotages a show day worst then realizing you're missing something you need. I get made fun of for the amount of bridles I pack, but I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it.

✅ Does your tack fit you and your horse? And no I didn't ask if it looks cute. Your horse can perform best if you and your horse are comfortable and secure.

✅ Do you have hay in front of your horse all the time? Implementing hay nets has helped my business tremendously. Make sure they have hay in the trailer and during breaks at shows.

✅ Do as much as you can afford to keep your horse feeling good. My show horses get checked by the vet regularly. If they need injected they get injected. I give them anti inflammatories show days as needed to keep them feeling their best. I've found TOML is a great product for them both mentally and physically. We have them all on joint supplement. Older horses live on equiox to keep them moving well. I love purina feeds and everything that works hard is on a feed with outlast in it to prevent ulcers. We also love Equipride products. We go through an army supply of omeprozale on the show horses every year. It all gets expensive but doing the extra to keep them feeling good will get you the best performance from your horse and it's only fair to them.

EDITED TO ADD ✅ BODYWORK. Chiro and muscle work. I have great body workers. Not only do they make my horses feel good, they've both found issues I would've never found without them having their hands on my horses.
