Wrigley is back to normal thanks to Dr. Settle!
Some of you guessed it right, a torn CCL!
After assessing Wrigley's leg and taking radiographs, Dr. Settle confirmed a torn CCL and surgery was scheduled.
A dog’s CCL, which is similar to a person’s anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in their knee, can degenerate or weaken over time for various reasons. Because the CCL weakens over time, it can rupture with seemingly minimal trauma which is why it is more common than people think. A CCL rupture is the leading cause of hind limb lameness in dogs and can cause instability in the stifle (knee) joint.
TPLO (Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy) is often recommended for medium- to large-breed dogs, as it restores them closer to normal function. The success rate of this surgery is extremely high with as many as 90-95% of dogs returning to near-normal function.
After 8 weeks of low activity, Wrigley is back to her normal self enjoying summer chasing birds and running around with her humans! We are glad Wrigleys owners brought her in to check out a limp which turned out to be worse than "just" a sore leg. We are so happy to see her running around again! 💞🐾🩺
