Theodore continues to impress me with his great mind and his consistency. He is just that good ol reliable Steady Eddy. After 90 days of preparation and progression, Theodore had his first ride in a hackamore. He was responsive and rode the same as he does in a bit. I remember taking my first ride on him in a rope halter at the end of 2 weeks and he was heavy. Today he was light and responsive in the hackamore. He is also becoming very responsive to my leg cues. August 10th is the last day to apply to become an approved adopter. Don’t miss out on a chance to adopt this handsome lovable hippo!

Meet Theodore! (third required post)

Available to approved adopters via auction on August 24, 2024 starting at 6:45 PM EST after the completion of the ATFO Competition in Winfield, WV.

5-6 year old Appalachian Brumby gelding
14 hands
Theodore wants to be your friend and brings so much joy to everyone who meets him!
Walks, trots, Canters, Stops, and Backs up under saddle
Smooth and light transitions
Picks up correct canter leads
Knows verbal cues: walk, trot, canter, whoa, and back
Fun to ride!!!
Rides out alone drama free
Not buddy sour
Rides with other horses drama free
Enjoys arena riding, trail riding, and riding out
Plow/Direct Reins
Currently working on the beginning stages of neck reining
Started working on simple lead changes
Working on improving the back up
Has a normal trot and an extended trot
His gaits are nice to ride
Incredibly friendly and willing to please
Smart with a great mind
Easy going and chill
He has not forgotten a single thing that I’ve taught him.
Good natured and Confident. Seldom ever spooks.
More of the curious type.
More whoa than go, but he is willing to go, and you don’t have to nag at him.
He absolutely does NOT have the naughty pony traits that some ponies become notorious for.
Easy to catch. Easy to halter.
Stands tied. Stands for the farrier. Stands for baths. Stands for saddling, bridling, and mounting.
Trailer Loads. Backs out of trailer.
He still doesn’t care for fly spray and spray conditioners. He doesn’t do anything bad and doesn’t seem afraid, just doesn’t like it. Sometimes he stands just fine at liberty to be sprayed and other times he will walk off. Same when haltered.
I have not had the opportunity to see how he crosses water.
Ground ties 95% of the time. Sometimes he will walk off, but not very often.
Suitable for Advanced Beginners and up
Confidence Builder
Experienced Riders will enjoy riding him also
Theodore is best suited for a rider looking for that horse partner to bond with and enjoy recreationally, whether that be in an arena or on a trail. He would probably enjoy going to an occasional low level show for fun. He isn’t athletic enough to be super competitive, but he will absolutely give it his all.
Theodore is not recommended as a speed horse or gymkhana horse. He would do it for fun at his pace, but doesn’t have the motor to be competitive.
Currently being ridden in a stainless steel Jeremiah Watt eggbut snaffle bit and a Myler Black Seven Shank Low Port Comfort bit. He is not riding one handed in the shank bit yet. He will do absolutely fine in the snaffle bit for less experienced riders.
Will need a wide tree saddle with a round skirt.
Easy Keeper
He is currently on a dry lot requirement and that may be a permanent requirement for him.
His current diet consists of 6-8 flakes of grass hay a day in a slow feed hay net, Manna Pro Sho Hoof supplement, and K.I.S Trace Minerals from Thorne Bottom Farm.
Comfortably lives outside with access to shade.
He is also comfortable in a stall during inclement weather and when waiting for the farrier, etc.
He has not been turned out with other horses while in my care, because Theo can’t be out on pasture.
I’m not sure where in the herd pecking order he would be. He gets along really well with his gelding neighbor on the other side of the fence.
He is currently barefoot and has not shown any signs of being tender footed.
His best life would be with someone who will appreciate him as a friend and partner that will help him maintain consistent exercise for his health. He does well riding 5-6 days a week with rides being 30-90 minutes long.
He genuinely seems to enjoy trail riding and riding out. He would probably do really well as a lesson pony also. He’s patient and a confidence builder.
I really can’t say enough good things about him.
He’s been such a blessing to me.

Beautiful Bay Mare!

Meet Sister aka “Pretty Girl”

4 year old Quarter Horse mare (grade)
Stands 14.1 hands
Walks, trots, canters, stops, and backs up under saddle
Light and smooth transitions
Simple lead changes
Not buddy sour and rides out alone drama free
No vices
Suitable for most riders novice and up
120+ days of professional training

Sister is a very quiet and very sweet mare with a great mind. She is a pleasure to be around and ride. If you are typically not a mare fan, she is not at all marish. Sister is currently a recreational riding horse and trail horse. She does have potential to do some low level showing. Sister is slightly more whoa than go, but is pretty evenly balanced with a medium spirit level. She trailer loads, stands tied, stands for the farrier and vet, stands for baths, etc. She is UTD on vaccinations, dental floats, Coggins test, and deworming. Sister’s ideal rider is someone looking for an easy going quiet horse to enjoy.

8.5k

Sister can be seen and tried in Orland, Indiana.

Second Required Post (with YouTube link)!

HOP Team Theodore went to our very first show!!! Our goal was just to get exposure and experience with a new show environment. Theodore far exceeded our expectations. He handled the new, loud, busy environment extremely well. His great mind and good nature shone through so bright. He is the first horse in a long time that I can honestly say that I trust to not do anything dangerous. Theo’s trailer loading has improved. He stood tied to the trailer quietly with and without the other wonderful pony that went with us. He rode around the show grounds with curiousity. He met new friends, horse and human. And he completely WOWED me in our Ranch Pleasure Walk Trot class. I’m not kidding when I say that he is GREEN. We hadn’t even practiced the difference between normal trot and extended trot. He absolutely nailed it! And his STOP, whew! I was so proud of his confidence, transitions, and purity of gait in the class. Theodore has never disappointed me when I present him with a new challenge. We are so blessed to get to know him and spend time with him. This amazing horse will be available for adoption on August 24, 2024 through the Heart of Phoenix Rescue after the completion of the ATFO competition.

Here’s what I’ve learned about Theodore in 4 weeks:
He WANTS TO BE YOUR FRIEND!!!
Super friendly and sweet (to me and other people)
Easy to catch and halter
Stands tied, for the farrier, grooming, saddling, bridling, mounting etc
Walks, trots, and canters under saddle
Gaits are comfortable to ride
Very thoughtful and thinks his way through challenges
Gives good hugs
Confident with obstacles
Tries really hard for me
EASY GOING
Stands still
Easy to deworm
Tail is growing out
trailer loading is improving and will continue to work on his confidence
Working on teaching him what the reins mean and getting lightness
Still doesn’t care for fly spray but working on getting him to accept it more
Working on his willingness to go forward and it’s improving
He greets me at the gate ready to work with a whinny 🥰
I can’t say enough good things about this special guy. He is approximately 6 years old and measures between 14.0 and 14.1 hands.
