Bea presented to AVC for evaluation and treatment of cystic calculi (urinary bladder stones). After discussing treatment options with the clients they decided to move forward with Percutaneous cystolithotomy (PCCL).

Lower urinary tract stones occur commonly in dogs and cats, which can lead to life threatening urethral obstruction. Some stones may respond to medical dissolution, while other may require surgical intervention. PCCL provides a minimally invasive alternative for stone removal from lower urinary tract in dogs and cats. In humans, lower urinary tract calculus retrieval is typically endoscopic assisted and the need for open surgical removal is rarely considered.

A small incision is made into the abdomen to gain access to the urinary bladder. A scope is used to examine the interior of the bladder and the urethra. The stones are flushed out or retrieved using a basket instrument. The minimally invasive approach allows for lower complication rates and faster recovery from surgery. As an added bonus, because the endoscope improves visualization, studies have shown there’s almost a 0% chance of incomplete stone removal (where this can be up to 20% with traditional surgery). Bea recovered well form her surgery and is doing great at home.

Vet receptionist week is now over, but we couldn't leave without introducing our newest receptionist. Better late than never!
Here's a little about Rebekah:
"I have always been passionate about working with Animals. I started working on a horse farm when I was 14 years old. I loved it but wanted to explore working with dogs and cats too! So I made my way into the vet med field but took a slight detour along the way. I became a dog groomer for a few years before returning to what I really love doing which is providing exceptional customer service and getting plenty of puppy kisses. My hobbies are playing with my two dogs Jake and Bali, playing the guitar and watching reruns of Married at First Sight."

Meet our CSR, Vet Receptionist & also the person who makes all of these social media post, Eunice! 🌷👏

✨So here's a little about me, your local cat lady 🐈‍⬛
I have 3 cat children, Sylvester, Jasper & Mia 💖
I use to be a dog mom 🖤, so I have a soft spot for all of the senior dogs I meet ❤️
I'm a cat colony care taker & help to TNR (trap, neuter, return) feral/community cats on my spare time.
My dream is to someday have my very own cat sanctuary, & spread love & awareness for community cats in need 🥺
Some of my hobbies include hiking, sketching, Greek myths, history documentaries & quality time with my cats 🐱 I enjoy taking on creative projects, whether it's hair related, arts & crafts or helping with AVC's social media 🌸✨

✨ In honor of Vet Receptionist Week, we will be making post for the next couple days to celebrate our wonderful CSR'S. CSR's/Vet Receptionist are essential to any practice as they are the face of the company, the first person you meet & first line of contact. To start off this week, meet Tiffany!
Here's a little about Tiffany, in her own words:
"I started my Veterinary career in 2017 at a general practice as a Kennel Tech. I briefly attended online college & became certified as a Vet Assistant. In August of 2023, I joined AVC Urgent Care & Specialty Hospital. Which has been a great learning chapter in my career, I am one of the CSR's here and I love that I'm constantly learning new things in the specialty world. My hobbies include reading and doing community services with my church. I have two dogs that I adopted, Zeus is my German Shepherd and Bella is my Maltese mix"

This is Zach, he's a naughty cat that ate something that he shouldn’t have 6 months ago. At that time AVC was still under construction, so his owner (one of the founding members of AVC) took him to Tampa for emergency care, due to lack of availability in Orlando. Even after being taken to one of the biggest emergency hospitals in Tampa, he ultimately was not checked in for surgery till almost 36hrs later of being obstructed. Thankfully he did not suffer any complications and recovered without any major issues.

Fast forward to 2 months ago, Zach being the naughty kitty he is, did the same thing again. But now that AVC is open and fully functional, he received prompt emergency care & underwent surgery within just hours of being diagnosed with an obstruction.

Words from Dr. Gideon Daniel:
“My brother Dr Samson Daniel and I both moved back to Orlando as we heard of the huge shortage of specialists and referral medicine in the area. Because of Zach's story of not being able receive immediate medical attention and emergency care, we also wanted pet owners to have access to an Urgent Care as a walk-in service. No appointments necessary, with an on-call internist & specialty surgeon for any unexpected issues that may come up after hours.”
