USDA REGULATIONS NEWS

Informing them Quakers, Ringnecks, Linnies, Kākāriks, and Cape Parrots are very much pet trade birds.

The USDA regulations for pet birds have been published.

There are two major problems with the regulations.

1) They ban all shipments of unweaned birds.

2) They create a list of pet species and non-pet species.

If you breed a non-pet species you will need a license to sell even 1 bird.

Some of the non-pet species include Quakers, Ringnecks, Linnies, Kākāriks, and Cape Parrots. If you breed or sell any of these species you will need a license. We are currently working on a full list of the species that they have left off the list.

I recommend to all of you that are reading this to email the USDA official in charge of this, Dr. Cody Yager, ([email protected]), and tell him that you breed these species and what wonderful pets they make!

And if you ship unweaned birds as part of your business, tell him that too!
