Any of my friends in South Florida near Boca pompano Beach that would be willing to pick up the rescued abandoned rabbit and help me get it north? It's currently a 3-hour drive and the person who has the rabbit states that they don't have a vehicle can't drive and I have to get all the way down to them. Additionally, They work until Saturday afternoon and I cannot get there in the evening and to turn around and drive back. It is over a 3-hour drive one way for me.

The Vienna Effect on Rabbit Eyes

The Vienna gene (v) is known for producing Blue-Eyed Whites (BEWs) or rabbits with White marks, but what many breeders don’t realize is how broadly and subtly this gene influences eye pigmentation. Expression ranges from crystal-blue clarity all the way to marbled heterochromia and blue flecks hidden inside an otherwise normal iris.

Below is a breakdown of the most common Vienna eye expressions-all of which can appear in VM (Vienna Marked) Rabbits.

πŸ”Ή Clear Crystal Blue
Bright, even, icy blue. This is the classic BEW/Vienna blue with full pigment across the iris.

πŸ”Ή Sectoral Heterochromia (Marbled)
Part blue, part brown/grey. The iris has patches or slices of different pigment-one of the strongest indicators of Vienna.

πŸ”Ή Violet or β€œRuby-Cast Blue”
Seen in chocolates and shaded varieties. Vienna lightens the iris, while base color adds a warm violet or ruby tint.

πŸ”Ή Muted Blue
Soft, cloudy, or grey-blue. A lighter Vienna expression without the clarity of BEW blue.

πŸ”Ή Blue-Flecked Eyes
Normal iris with small blue spots or streaks. A subtle but sure sign of a Vienna carrier.

πŸ”Ή Additional Marbling Example
Shows how Vienna marbling can vary- half-blue eyes, crescent blue slices, or swirled patterns.

πŸ”Ή Complete Heterochromia (One Blue Eye, One Brown Eye)
This occurs when the Vienna gene reduces pigment in one iris but not the other, resulting in one fully blue eye and one fully brown or grey eye. It is a strong form of Vienna expression, caused by uneven pigment suppression during eye development. While marbling affects part of an iris, complete heterochromia affects the entire eye-making it one of the clearest indicators that Vienna is present, even in rabbits without any visible white markings.

Guys, this is one of the good rescues!! While the outcome is currently undetermined (I will either pick up the rabbit this weekend or she may be adopted out locally by the finder with Amathamdir Rabbitry's blessing.) They have worked with myself and Debra on making sure the rabbit is safe! Even better they're willing to help us get the rabbit back! That's something and that is generally unheard of.

I think this holiday season while everyone is thinking about giving and the 4-H kids are looking for projects We should keep this rescue in mind for donations.

Hopefully they have an Amazon wishlist. :) Morgan & I will be gathering items they need to donate.

We typically expect rescues to reprimand breeders, but in this particular situation, we would like to commend the breeder.
Approximately four days ago, we were contacted by a family who had found a rabbit in their neighborhood.
Once we learned that the bunny had a tattoo, we advised them to follow the necessary legal procedures to locate the owner.
They stated that they had posted on several social media platforms, but no one claimed ownership.
We decided to post about the bunny, and to our surprise, it was discovered that the bunny was purchased from a breeder in Alabama in January 2025 and transported to Florida.
Thanks to the tattoo, the breeder was able to track down the person who had purchased this bunny and another one, which also seemed to be lost in the neighborhood. πŸ’”
When we posted about the bunny, someone tagged the breeder, who immediately contacted the person who had purchased the bunnies. Interestingly, the person initially denied purchasing them until the breeder confronted him with proof of purchase and pictures; then, the owner claimed ownership and stated that the bunnies had gotten lost and he was searching for them.
It is unclear how the bunnies got lost in a different city from the owner. Clearly, the owner was either reckless or had given the bunnies to someone else who abandoned them on the street.
The point we want to emphasize is that the breeder confronted the owner and now wants the bunnies back, as the owner has demonstrated that the bunnies were not properly cared for.
We commend this breeder for being a reputable and caring person. Some breeders we have encountered would have ignored the situation.
Ultimately, there are breeders and breeders, just as there are rescues and rescues.

β€ΌοΈβš οΈPut this person on your DO NOT SELL list!! βš οΈβ€ΌοΈ

Joshua Hanh has been going around multiple breeders trying to purchase multiple breeds of rabbits. To us, he has tried to purchase Netherland dwarfs. He asked me for Blanc de Hotos and I referred him to Amathamdir Rabbitry.

Instead of purchasing those, he bought a pair of English Spots in January and had them transported. How do I know this? Debra keeps the most impeccable of records! πŸ˜‡ Within 5 minutes I was able to identify the rabbit was hers and she was able to not only confirm but also tell me who purchased the rabbit and when.

I tagged Joshua in the rabbit rescue post and texted the contact person his information. Debra personally contacted him. He declined ownership. Literally stated he NEVER had a rabbit like that! 🀬

Only after being confronted with conversations history and proof of payment did he comment under the rescue post "thank you for finding my baby". As it is 6am in a Sunday morning it is currently unconfirmed if he has contacted rescue.

I will do everything I can to help the ethical breeder get her rabbit back because that's what ethical rabbit breeders/ people do.
