Guys, this is one of the good rescues!! While the outcome is currently undetermined (I will either pick up the rabbit this weekend or she may be adopted out locally by the finder with Amathamdir Rabbitry's blessing.) They have worked with myself and Debra on making sure the rabbit is safe! Even better they're willing to help us get the rabbit back! That's something and that is generally unheard of.
I think this holiday season while everyone is thinking about giving and the 4-H kids are looking for projects We should keep this rescue in mind for donations.
Hopefully they have an Amazon wishlist. :) Morgan & I will be gathering items they need to donate.
We typically expect rescues to reprimand breeders, but in this particular situation, we would like to commend the breeder.
Approximately four days ago, we were contacted by a family who had found a rabbit in their neighborhood.
Once we learned that the bunny had a tattoo, we advised them to follow the necessary legal procedures to locate the owner.
They stated that they had posted on several social media platforms, but no one claimed ownership.
We decided to post about the bunny, and to our surprise, it was discovered that the bunny was purchased from a breeder in Alabama in January 2025 and transported to Florida.
Thanks to the tattoo, the breeder was able to track down the person who had purchased this bunny and another one, which also seemed to be lost in the neighborhood. π
When we posted about the bunny, someone tagged the breeder, who immediately contacted the person who had purchased the bunnies. Interestingly, the person initially denied purchasing them until the breeder confronted him with proof of purchase and pictures; then, the owner claimed ownership and stated that the bunnies had gotten lost and he was searching for them.
It is unclear how the bunnies got lost in a different city from the owner. Clearly, the owner was either reckless or had given the bunnies to someone else who abandoned them on the street.
The point we want to emphasize is that the breeder confronted the owner and now wants the bunnies back, as the owner has demonstrated that the bunnies were not properly cared for.
We commend this breeder for being a reputable and caring person. Some breeders we have encountered would have ignored the situation.
Ultimately, there are breeders and breeders, just as there are rescues and rescues.
