Do you recognize this sweet, scared dog?

Surrendered on 11/11/25 by an individual who stated she was left abandoned in a house. No other details were provided.

Currently NOT up for adoption.

Seeking a foster for the duration of the stray hold to allow time for owner to claim.

Not tested with cats or other dogs yet as we are allowing for decompression time.

Here are 10 interesting facts about black cats:

1. Black is the most common feline coat color. The gene for expressing eumelanim (pigment needed to make black fur) is dominant in black cats.

2. Black cats are less likely to get adopted, possibly due to the superstition as symbols of bad luck or witchcraft.

3. Black cats can “rust” in the sun. The sun bleaches the pigment from the fur, causing it to lighten.

4. It’s rare to find an all-black cat. Most cats have patches of fur, paw pads, or whiskers that are some other color such as white.

5. There are many famous black cats including Salem (Sabrina the Teenage Witch), Thackery Binx (Hocus Pocus), Isis (Star Trek), and Blackie (world’s richest cat who was left a $12.5M fortune when his owner died in 1988).

6. Black cats almost always have yellow eyes.

7. Many cat breeds can be black but only one breed is always black - the Bombay.

8. Black cats have their own national holidays - October 27th (National Black Cat Day) and August 17th (National Black Cat Appreciation Day).

9. Black cats may be resistant to disease. There’s evidence they may have certain genetic mutations that make them less susceptible to some diseases.

10. Black cats are NOT bad luck. No one knows exactly when they got their bad rap, but adopting one actually has direct benefits like improving your health 🖤
