Dr. Bolfer and the team had a roaring good time at the zoo earlier this week, performing crucial preventative cardiac exams, echocardiograms, and electrocardiograms on some of the most majestic residents! We love giving back to the community and caring for animals both big and small!

Fun fact: lions share the same cardiac makeup as our pet cats, but just like our furry friends at home, they’re also prone to heart issues. That’s why regular wellness exams are so important—they help catch problems early, ensuring a longer, healthier life. These three incredible lions received a full health check before being moved into their brand-new habitat. Now they’re all set for their next big adventure—healthy and heart-strong! We are excited to see Chobe, Ruaha and Karoo in their new home!

Our team loved being a part of this big event at Brevard Zoo! Stay tuned for more pictures and why we were there!

Our lion brothers, Chobe, Karoo and Ruaha, have moved to their new, expansive habitat in Expedition Africa! The trio are still acclimating, but visit the Zoo on Saturday, November 16 for the official opening of our completed Expedition Africa loop as well as their habitat!

Spooky, Creepy, Crawly, and CHOCOLATE! ‘Tis the season of candy!

Did you know chocolate is derived from the roasted seeds of the plant Theobroma cacao? There are various components to this plant that could jeopardize multiple organs in a dog, including the cardiovascular system. The first signs of poisoning in a dog includes vomiting, excessive thirst, and more. Other signs may include excessive panting and muscle twitching. The effects of chocolate go beyond what you can actually see. The poisoning may progress to the point of causing cardiac arrhythmias, seizures, and death, and it could take as long as 24-hours to appear. The second you know your dog has consumed chocolate, please call your vet immediately. With Halloween quickly approaching, please be mindful where and how chocolatey sweets are stored. Keep them out of reach of your furry friends!

Pablo, you were a star patient! Thank you for patiently waiting your turn ❤️‍🩹

We advise all our patients to allocate 2 hours for their appointment. As a specialty group, we understand that each case requires time for testing, diagnosis, and discussion. Our goal is to ensure we provide thorough care without rushing, so you leave with clear answers and confidence in your treatment plan.

Let’s talk CT scans! Did you know, in some cases, Dr. Bolfer uses a CT scan to look for abnormal structural changes? CT images provide a better differentiation of bones and soft tissues than many x-rays, and there are many cases in which a scan may be needed to further diagnose a specific heart disease or malformation.

If your fur-baby requires CT images, we conveniently have machines located in the Clermont, Davenport, and Melbourne offices.

October is National Pet Wellness month. Regular visits to the vet can help maintain healthy habits and also provide opportunities to catch other symptoms early, which may lead to referrals to specialists.

Paris, you are such a gem! We are happy you went to your wellness appointment, which in turn brought you to us.

Did you know most of our patients are referred to us by primary veterinarians who see images, blood work, or symptoms and alert us here at CFVC? Wellness appointments should not be missed as they are essential in keeping our fur babies healthy!

10/07/2024
