An update with Miles! Practicing to handle temptations. Being a puppy, they struggle with controlling their outburst and energy. It’s your job, as an owner to set boundaries. His sit, lay down, and stay are on point. Those are key to nail within the first two lessons. These help your pup learn to control their urges. It makes them more well rounded. Miles is a mouther at home and thinks it’s always play time. When his humans are folding blankets, clothes, picking up anything from the floor, he likes to attack! (In a playful manner of course)
The action of the day is Drop It/Leave it! Remember to never repeat your command. Also, with puppies it’s super important to incorporate play time in between small burst of lessons. Puppies attention span….small🙃 they get bored fast and stop learning if you push them too hard. You always want to stop while their ahead, so they finish the lesson feeling accomplished and ready for next time.

A session of “leave it”
When you are outside taking a walk and your pup has his/her nose finding a chicken bone or possibly something poisonous. Commanding them to “leave it” will help significantly! You don’t want them getting sick.

I used something tasty to tempt her. A blueberry, turkey cookie… mmmm! For dogs of course😝 when she avoided it I rewarded her with something even tastier! Boiled chicken hearts.

Poor Oliver had extreme anxiety. He was saved from PR from a puppy mill. He’s making progress. When I initially met him and his owner for the meet and greet he wouldn’t even come near me. Took him 45 min just to come up to me and smell.

After this video I worked on getting him to be comfortable around the loud squeaky heavy swinging door.

You have to start slow. Change doesn’t happen over night. Don’t push your pup too fast or too far. It defeats the progress. Stop while your pup is ahead. Patience is key
