Justin has been the human equivalent of Abby’s pack - fulfilling a hugely significant role often disregarded by our society - the ones believing male dogs have no greater purpose in the role of mom dogs and their puppies, other than donating the sperm. In all my years of documenting street dogs around the world, I’ve not come across a stronger disbelief than this one, and its impacts are incredibly detrimental on the wellbeing of mom and puppies. In fact, Litter K really validated this for many of our volunteers, because it was our first litter that came with dad; and a hell of an awesome dad! Still to this day…. Anyway, in lieu of not having their father, this litter (puppies and momma included) have shown tremendous comfort in having a human equivalent for support. Since the day we got them, Justin has developed a relationship with Abbie such that she knows she’s not alone and doing the heavy lifting herself (outnumbered) and the puppies seek solace and respite in his presence. Call this a whole of anthropomorphism or rubbish…. The proof is in the Puppy BREATH puppy! We can’t control their genetics, we have no say over their past, and they all come to us deprived, lacking and against all odds…. But, litter after litter, the work of Puppy BREATH is validated by the remarkable nature of dogs, their resilience, their trust, and their affinity for us.
