We here at Rick’s want to extend a massive “THANK YOU!” to all of our amazing friends, and clients-turned-friends who showed up to our Celebration of Life honoring our partner, friend and founder, Charlie.

We would also like to send a special thanks to Judy, of Pet Rescue by Judy in Sanford. Charlie and his partner Hendrik adopted a pup, Tiger, from Judy just a couple months before opening Rick’s Dog Deli in 2011 and Tiger has been along for the ride ever since. It was so wonderful that Judy brought another adoptable pup, Macey (who Charlie was fostering) to the celebration. We are so happy to say that we’ve come full circle and Macey was adopted by one of our amazing, long-time clients that was at the Celebration. Macey is in a loving home, and is now a permanent member of the Rick’s Dog Deli pack too!

Again, a heartfelt thank you for all of your kind words and support. We couldn’t do any of this without you!

This Saturday, June 1st, Deli hours will be abbreviated as we join together from 2:00pm - 5:00pm to celebrate our founder and friend, Charlie Guns.

The “dress code” is light, casual, and colorful - Florida Resort Casual ☀️ - sundresses, golf shirts, Hawaiian shirts, short pants or casual slacks, all acceptable and preferred! Refreshments will also be served.

We look forward to seeing you all and to celebrating our wonderful friend! 🩵

We are deeply saddened to share the news of the unexpected passing of our beloved founder, partner, and friend, Charlie Guns.

Without his vision and his dedication to the pups and our community, Rick’s would not exist, and for that, we are all so grateful!

We here at the deli will still be working hard to keep Charlie’s dream alive and do our best to fill the big shoes he left behind.

Halloween can be a super fun time for kids, adults and pups alike. However, Halloween can also be stressful for some dogs, so here are some quick tips to keep in mind to keep your boo happy and safe this spooky season:

🍫Candy is a big no-go for pets! Chocolate, grapes, raisins, and anything with artificial sweetener xylitol can be deadly to dogs, so keep all of your hard-earned treats up high where they can’t reach and watch the ground if you're walking!

👻While some dogs love company, with roaming ghouls + goblins coming to the door, it may be best to keep your dog in the house and away from the door. Better yet, set up a table outside to pass out candy so your pup can relax inside uninterrupted. This also vastly minimizes the opportunity of your pup getting spooked and making an escape.

🎃We LOVE a good pet costume as much as the next person so if you decide to dress up your pup make sure they’re wearing a pet-safe costume. Be sure there are no hanging pieces that your pet can chew on, that it fits snugly and securely so it doesn’t get hung on anything, and you’ll want to make sure their costume isn’t too restrictive and become a choking hazard. Alternatively, if they seem miserable in it, perhaps find an alternative such as a fun hat, bandana, or a decorated wagon or pet stroller!

“This lovely lady is Luna. I rescued her in January of 2016 when she was 2 years old. She had a long history of summer allergies and chewing on her skin as well as weekly vomiting year round. She would skip meals often. I was feeding her what I thought was a good commercial food, but apparently not one that was good for her. Once I realized it might be food-related, I researched human-grade food and was so thankful I found a local company who could provide her with the best diet possible. She has been a customer of Rick’s Dog Deli for a year now and I am thrilled to report that ALL her symptoms have disappeared. She’s happy, healthy and very excited for meal time now.

As some of you know, Maui holds a place near and dear to the Rick's founders' hearts. This was our home before moving to Central Florida and is still a second home, in many ways.

The wildfires that engulfed the island have been absolutely devastating on so many levels, many of which we may not even realize yet. And, as with any natural disaster with so much for the community to worry about, at the end of the day, the pets are sure to suffer as well. That’s where we, and the Rick’s Dog Deli community, come in!

We are currently working on the logistics behind collecting, donating, and transporting physical supplies to the island. While we work out the details of that endeavor, in the meantime, we are teaming up with the Hawai’i Community Foundation - Maui Strong, who are currently collecting monetary donations through their website.

Thank you so much, in advance for any help and we will surely keep everyone up-to-date on our supply donation efforts as they become available.

"Here is a photo of me and my favorite girls, Kate and Jazz. Mini Aussies are fabulous dogs but they love to eat and weight control can become an issue as they age. I walk them daily but this breed is built for herding and walking does not produce the calorie burn that herding a pasture of sheep does. My vet recommended Rick’s Dog Deli to me and Kevin used my dogs’ age, breed, and size to calculate the exact amount of calories my girls need to maintain a healthy weight. Kate and Jazz LOVE their Rick’s Dog Deli breakfast and dinner and they have both maintained a healthy weight. I am sure I will need to make some portion adjustments as they age, but I know the staff at Rick’s will be there to help. I get a lot of compliments when out and about with these two. Their coats are beautiful and I think that is due to the healthy fresh food Rick’s provides. Wholeheartedly recommend this place for those dog owners looking for nutritious fresh food produced locally. It is the BEST!"
