Finally - an answer to the age-old question - working hard, or hardly working? The answer... is that here at Kindred Spirits Animal Clinic, we're always working hard! So much so, that some of our four-legged friends offered a paw to help!

Miss Coco's favorite place to hang when she comes to visit is up at reception, where she would love to show you her favorite toys or her wicked-cute smile.

Miss Ryah has also taken up a very important position - keeping the clinic safe from one of the most widely known infiltrators to doggy-kind.......... squirrels! 😟

We hope you and your fuzzy family members are staying dry, warm, and cozy on this murky Monday!

2/20 Update - Smooshie has left the shelter with Polk County Bully Project! Please see their post with details on how to honor pledges!

2/19 Update - Smooshie has a rescue hold. If you are the rescue that pulled Smooshie please message us a freedom picture so that we can update!

We are heartbroken to share that Frogger, Angelica, and Benedict Cumberbark were euthanized. 💔 Rest in peace sweet angels 🤍🌈

There are 4 dogs on the Last Chance (Euthanasia) List at Orange County Animal Services, Orlando, Florida. They are RESCUE ONLY and need fosters and rescues by their deadline of 6 am Wednesday, February 19 or they will be euthanized. OCAS is offering a $250 incentive per dog to rescue partners. Please help SHARE them.

⭐️ Frogger originally came to the shelter more than a year ago as a stray. He was adopted about a month later and then in November 2024 he showed back up as a stray and the former adopter was unable to be reached.

Frogger is very excited to get out of his kennel and is easily leashed but pulls hard on the way to the yard. He is friendly and very food motivated. He loves chasing the red ball around the yard and climbing on the play equipment!

Frogger is very high energy and chooses to independently chase the ball until a handler redirects and offers another alternative. He has not shown any guarding behaviors and is able to break focus when a handler gives him an alternative outlet. Frogger has been getting frustrated in his kennel as he is unable to get the physical and mental stimulation he craves!

Frogger has been paired with several different dogs during his time at the shelter.

Frogger is 3 years old, weighs 43 pounds, is neutered, and has tested negative for heartworm disease.

⭐️Angelica was brought to the shelter as a stray on 1/29. It was noted in the field that she was very friendly with children but fearful of adults and being leashed.

Upon arriving to intake at the shelter she was friendly and easily handled. Volunteers noted that she walks decently well on leash and enjoys playing with the water hose.

Initially Angelica was easily paired, showing more interest in affection from the handlers than the other dog. There was later an altercation in the kennel and she was seen pinning the other dog to the ground. There were no injuries and the pair was separated. Angelica has not been repaired and has shown increasing reactively when walking through the kennels. Staff has had a difficult time taking her out and putting her back into her kennel due to her high reactivity to both people and dogs. However once she is out in the yard she relaxes and is easily handled.

Angelica is 1 year old, weighs 50 pounds, is spayed and tested negative for heartworm disease.

⭐️ Benedict Cumberbark was picked up as a stray on 2/1. During intake, he allowed leashing but appeared to be fear reactive, gator rolling, lunging and growling. Upon further behavior assessments, Benedict Cumberbark appears to be under socialized and is fearful and timid. He will allow pets once he is warmed up to handler but stays guarded and leary. He is still just a young pup, who has not had proper socialization with humans or dogs, at no fault of his own.

Benedict Cumberbark is 1 year old and about 40 pounds. He is an intact male and has not been tested for heartworm disease.

⭐️ Smooshie was brought to the shelter as a stray on 2/4. During intake, he was easy to leash and handle. Smooshie was unable to be paired at intake due to mounting other dogs and not taking correction.

During assessment, Smooshie allowed leashing and handling and was friendly towards humans. When overstimulated, Smooshie can be jumpy and tends to attempt to mount handlers. He becomes hyper aware and fixates on external stimuli.

Smooshie appears to have enlarged lymph nodes, staff suspects him to have lymphoma. He will need to be evaluated at a full service clinic that can diagnose him.

Smooshie is 2 years old and about 56 pounds. He is an intact male and has tested negative for heartworm disease.

Imagine going in to give your pet a smooch and the most horrid smell wafts towards you. They're tired of waiting for your kisses so they heave a big sigh, and you realize......it's their mouth that smells so bad.

You've tried keeping up with brushing their teeth, but your beautiful, sweet fur baby just gives you the hardest time! Fast forward to this moment and well.... we're in quite the predicament.

Maintaining oral hygiene for our pets is always important but when does it become not enough? Plaque buildup is one thing but once that plaque turns into tartar, it makes getting those cute little teefers clean even more difficult. That's where anesthetic dental cleanings come in handy.

It allows us to knock off all that tough tartar buildup, leaving your fur babies breathe smelling better than roses! Not only that but it affords us the opportunity to safely remove any teeth that may be making it difficult for your pet to eat or making them uncomfortable. Imagine having a mouth like the cat in the picture below! 🤢

Thankfully we offer amazing dental wellness plans to help offset costs for a dental cleaning. For Pet Dental Health month, we are waiving the sign-up fee!

Keep your fur besties breath smelling fresh 🐶 They'll be sure to thank you for it with fresh kisses galore!

Hello fellow pet lovers! We are almost halfway through celebrating dental month, and we want to hear from YOU! What is your fuzzy baby's favorite way to keep their teeth clean?

Not sure?

No worries! These are a few of the products we offer to help keep your doggies and kitties' breath fresh.

The most effective method, just like us, is to brush their teeth. We have plenty of toothbrushes and toothpaste available to try. The task may sound daunting, but your dog or cat may surprise you in how easily brushing their teeth naturally becomes a part of their daily routine, especially if there is a treat involved...

Which brings us to another product we offer - yummy combs! These tasty, long-lasting treats are designed to floss dogs' teeth while they get a tasty treat all at the same time! One of our technicians, Lisa, buys these regularly. Her babies, Hershie Kiss and Nugget, highly recommend them.

We understand there are some pets who don't fancy sitting still long enough to get their teeth brushed, or who may turn their nose up at a new kind of treat. Don't worry - we also offer a tasteless water additive designed to break down the bacteria that can lead to tartar.

If you are curious about any of these products, we offer on keeping your pet's breath fresh, you can give us a call or swing on by, and someone on our team will help you select the best product for your baby.

Happy National Pet Dental Awareness Month!!! To celebrate, we are offering a $50 discount off of our dental cleanings. Additionally, if you sign your fuzzy baby up for one of our Wellness Plans to help spread out costs, we will waive our sign-up fee to reduce costs even more.

We also wanted to share some photos from two dental cleanings we performed here at our clinic.

The first two photos are of a dog who had never maintained dental health until coming to our clinic for a cleaning and was diagnosed as a Grade 4 periodontal disease. You can see from the photos, a large portion of the teeth needed to be extracted.

The last two photos are of a dog who has had routine dental maintenance every year. You can see from these photos; her teeth are much cleaner from the start and had minimal to no extractions. This was diagnosed as a Grade 2 periodontal disease.

Oral health has more health benefits than you may realize and allows for fresher kisses! If you're interested in more information, please contact us to get your fuzzy baby's dental cleaning scheduled. We also have great tips and tricks for maintaining oral health at home after they have been professionally cleaned.

We barely know anything about this dog.

We don’t know his name, his age, his background, where he’s from or how he’s lived his life so far.

What we do know is he was brought to our shelter on January 22, having been found by an appliance delivery person roaming the area between Goldenrod and Curry Ford. He was given an animal ID (A563339) and nicknamed Sourdough by our team. Sourdough weighs 53 pounds and is around 11 years old. Sourdough likes affection and will paw at people for pets. He likely has some difficulty seeing, which will add to the stress of being here at the shelter.

Sourdough is in rough shape and definitely showing his age. He has patchy hair loss, which our veterinarian believes is the result of allergies, and “cherry eyes.” This condition is the result of a prolapse of the third eyelid glands. In Sourdough’s case, it looks like this condition has been going on for some time, which can result in vision impairment. He is currently on eye medication to help provide some comfort.

Someone knows this dog. Knows his backstory, his name and where he’s been all the days prior to January 22. We’d love to find out more about him. It’s so often we receive a dog we believe is owned but the owner never comes. It seems like this is shaping up to be the case for Sourdough as well.

Finding a home for a senior, large breed dog with medical challenges is next to impossible. Not impossible though. Sourdough is a very friendly boy and despite all the poking and prodding our clinic team has had to do to assess him and medicate him daily, he’s been a champ through it all.

He undoubtedly has love left to share. Now we just need to find that special person willing to take a chance on him, so his last days are spent in a home and not here in the shelter, sharing time with nearly 250 other animals. We’re unsure how Sourdough does with other pets, given his age and medical conditions he has not spent time around them here at the shelter.

Please help us share Sourdough's story so we can help him!

Remember February is Dental awareness month. Most vet clinics offer discounts this month to have your fur baby's teeth cleaned. This can be very helpful in keeping them happy and healthy. Plus, when you go to kiss them, you won't be smelling bad breath.

Sometimes, you just want a "puppy". Whether that puppy is 3 years old or an actually 8 week old baby, we want 'em. 🐾🐕

The big question is, will they get along with the fur baby that you've got at home.

There are a lot of considerations to consider when looking at adding a new pet to your home. The very first being: "Does my dog even like other dogs?" and a very close second being: "Do they act jealous or territorial when other dogs are around me?"
🐕🐾🐩💕
Once it's decided: "Oh yeah, we can do this for sure", then you want to consider the best way to introduce said "puppy" to your household in a way that doesn't strongly impact your established pet.
