Hello everyone! We hope you and your families are all safe from hurricane Milton. Here at Barknona along with all the pups we are doing great. We hope this message finds you well and safe. We want to provide an update regarding Hurricane Milton. We understand the responsibility of taking care of your beloved family members and the safety of our staff.

In light of the current situation, our normal operating hours will change. Our dedicated team is working today and tomorrow to prepare our facility and ensure the safety of all dogs staying with us through the hurricane. On Wednesday, October 8th, 2024, we will close at 4 pm to give our staff extra time to prepare and get home safely. On Wednesday night we will have team members staying in Barknona through the hurricane with those dogs in the facility to ensure they are taken care of during this time. Please keep in mind this will be a stressful time for all including the dogs, but we are thankful for our brave team members who will be at the facility. In case of major damages or emergencies, we do ask that everyone with a dog at Barknona during this time to update their emergency contacts information via email to us, to make sure it’s someone who can respond in case we need them. In the case that you do not have an emergency contact nearby who can respond, we will contact the owners directly and go over our plan. We have a generator in the facility in case we lose power that will help us with our basic needs in the facility as part of our emergency plan.

On Thursday, October 10th, we will be closed to the public and will assess any damages then. At the moment we plan to open on Friday, October 11, 2024, during regular business hours. If anything changes and we are unable to open, we will update everyone on Thursday. The best way to communicate with us during the hurricane is via email, so please reply to this same email with any questions going forward. Stay safe and please know we are here for you all.

We have been closely tracking the developments of Tropical Storm Helene, and due to the recent updates, we have made some changes in our services and hours. In order to give our staff and customers time to prepare for the storm, we will close at 4 pm tomorrow, Thursday, September 26th, 2024. Customer who are scheduled to bring their dogs in for boarding starting tomorrow can arrive between 7 am-4 pm to check in their dogs. Daycare services will be closed tomorrow, Thursday, September 26th, 2024, and resume to regular hours on Friday, September 27th, 2024. For those of you who will have dogs staying in Barknona through the storm, just like we always do during these events, we will have staff members remain in the facility to ensure dogs are safe through the storm. Don’t hesitate to contact us with questions or concerns; we will happily answer them. Please stay safe.

Grooming can be stressful for some dogs, but with the right preparation, it can become a calm experience! Here are some tips to help your dog feel more relaxed:

⭐️Get your dog used to brushing from an early age.
⭐️Take your dog for a walk before grooming to release energy and calm down.
⭐️Use soft words and pet your dog while getting them ready for grooming.
⭐️Avoid sudden changes in water and room temperature.
⭐️Familiarize your dog with the sound of the blow dryer and scissors beforehand.
