Fleet Farming A bike-powered urban farming program + a small-scale distributed agriculture system!
(47)

In December 2013, local Central Florida entrepreneur and urban farmer, John Rife, presented the ‘Fleet Farming’ concept at the IDEAS community think+do tank program called “The Hive: Orlando.” Over the course of the month, John and IDEAS leaders began to organize the concept into an action plan, and start implementation of the first pilot program in February 2014. IDEAS For Us, a sustainability NG

O and 501c3 nonprofit organization headquartered in Winter Park, is the organization that manages and operates the ‘Fleet Farming’ program, in partnership with East End Market and other community partners and supporters. The revenue generated from the program will go to further community development and sustainability projects, and expand the Fleet Farming program to other districts and cities. IDEAS For Us

Increasing pollinator habitat 🤝Increasing reading literacy

When working with youth all over Orlando, we try to incorporate books as often as possible. Our Read and Seed program seeks to inspire students to love bees and books through interactive pollinator presentations, plantings and book giveaways🐝

We believe reading and seeding go hand in hand! 🌱Check out our recent projects at Pinewoods Elementary and OCPS ACE. Thank you to The Penny Project for making these events possible ✨

This hurricane came at an in opportune time as Fleet was right about to announce a very exciting grant program that we are so excited about. Watch out for that announcement soon! Nevertheless, replanting all of our wind damaged crops is very important to be able to feed children and families in our community (*hint *hint* 😊) so any helping hands would be amazing.

Fleet Farming Update: We’re okay! We have some down bananas, wind damaged crops, tossled plant nursery, but our shed is intact and all of our structures aren’t damaged. We’re very thankful.

We encourage you to check in with other local farms such as or to see how you can help with clean up/ replanting efforts.

Be safe on the roads! Many traffic lights are out, stop signs missing, limited gas, and down power lines and trees.

Our hearts go out to all those affected by this terrible storm. We will rebuild and regrow. 🌱 We love you Florida!

We have had some bountiful harvests and been blessed with Abundance!!!🥭🍌🥑🍒🍋🫚🍆🌶️🫑🫛. All our produce is beyond organic. Being grown ecologically with sustainable practices (e.g., bicycling to tend our farms, utilizing efficient irrigation, composting, upcycling, and much more). We are reducing food miles by growing 100% of our produce locally in Audubon Park. We close the loop as much as possible by composting to create our own soil. All this reduces food waste and reliance on fossil fuels while increasing local food security. Our produce is available at Agrii.io. Help us be a part of the solution and get healthier while doing it.🧑‍🌾🚲♻️💪🧘‍♂️.io
