Fleet Farming A bike-powered urban farming program + a small-scale distributed agriculture system!

In December 2013, local Central Florida entrepreneur and urban farmer, John Rife, presented the ‘Fleet Farming’ concept at the IDEAS community think+do tank program called “The Hive: Orlando.” Over the course of the month, John and IDEAS leaders began to organize the concept into an action plan, and start implementation of the first pilot program in February 2014. O and 501c3 nonprofit organization headquartered in Winter Park, is the organization that manages and operates the ‘Fleet Farming’ program, in partnership with East End Market and other community partners and supporters. The revenue generated from the program will go to further community development and sustainability projects, and expand the Fleet Farming program to other districts and cities. IDEAS For Us

Shout out to our Harvesting Hope project and our amazing community participants as we have been able to distribute over 259 lbs of produce since October! This includes local food distributions at West Lakes Early Learning a center as pictured here.

We love to see families take home our produce grown less than 5 miles away. Our participants mentioned roasting veggies and even juicing to incorporate these fresh foods into their diets. 🥕

Come join us at Fleet Farming on March 22nd 9 am- 2 pm for an exciting day of hands-on learning about urban agriculture! Our free training event will cover everything we do to grow food in order to encourage new and existing growers to get active in their local food system.

Whether you’re a seasoned gardener or just starting out, this event is perfect for anyone looking to get their hands dirty and learn more about growing food in the city. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals and learn all of the Fleet Farming tips and tricks to grow food.

Educational sessions include:
• Soil 101: It All Starts With Soil
• Growing Seasonal Vegetables in Florida: Crop Selection & Practices
• Plant Propagation and Germination
• Natural IPM & Maintenance
• & More!

Breakfast and lunch as included free of charge. Educational sessions are taught in the classroom and in the field. The end of the event will include a farm tour.

Starting the year of 2025 off with GROWTH 📈🌱 After our winter break for our team, we kicked off our first Swarm Ride of the year! Occurring every 1st & 3rd Saturday of the month, we come together with our community to grow food for students and families in need. This season is all about greens and root crops! Harvested a bunch of carrots, turnips, kale, and lettuce for our food donation program with 4 local schools. All of the produce is grown less than 5 miles from our school communities, keeping the cycle of food hyper local.

Thanks to our collaboration with local schools and partners, we’ve installed:

🌳 Fruit trees to support community nourishment and sustainability at Hungerford Elementary School.

These green spaces are more than a source of fresh produce—they’re a step toward a healthier, more connected community. 💚

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, is proud to announce some exciting news! 🎉

Our team is launching Harvesting Hope – a new program dedicated to bringing free, fresh local produce 🥕 directly to our schools from the Fleet Farmlettes! Each week, we’ll be distributing nutritious, locally grown fruits and veggies to support healthy minds and bodies. Locations for this program include OCPS ACE, Jones High School, Evans High School, and the West Lakes Early Learning Center.

The idea for this program sprung from our network of school gardens. Last year, we were able to distribute over 500 lbs of produce into our communities through local food giveaways. We can’t wait to see that number continue to grow over the course of this program.

Harvesting Hope is supported by the Florida Blue Foundation 💙 and is a four-year initiative. We are so thankful for their support 🙏 as well as for our community. Stay tuned for more updates about our innovative program!

We’re happy to announce we have expanded to 5 new farmlettes! With our sprouts growing bigger everyday. Additionally, we are part of the ChoZen Artisan Market, sharing local produce with the greater community.
