A moment for the mamas - Because behind every litter is a mother's story!
While many of our kittens come to us orphaned, found alone, or after their moms have finished raising them, we still see our fair share of family units during the busiest months of Kitten Season.
We are proud to provide outstanding care not only for our youngest residents, but for their resilient mamas as well!
In early February, 2-year-old Kit Kat and her two fluffy 4-week-old kittens came through our doors. The youngsters were healthy and well-fed, but skinny Kit Kat was struggling with a completely immobile left hind leg and a weakened right hind leg.
Despite the state in which she was found, she had done an incredible job of nursing and socializing her kittens. Staff immediately connected with her curious and playful personality!
After a warm bath and thorough assessment by our veterinary team, Kit Kat's condition was deemed neurologic, with amputation of the unusable limb determined to be the best course of action to help her long-term mobility.
After her surgery and a brief stint in foster care for the family, Kit Kat has recovered wonderfully! She has gained weight and so much strength in her remaining back leg. Plus, her sunny personality continues to shine brighter every day!
With her kittens now off to their new homes, Kit Kat made her own debut to the adoptions lobby at our Downtown Orlando shelter this week!
