It's hard to believe this happy, healthy, and loved dog was once living among trash and ticks. Thanks to your loyal support, Milo’s story has become a fairytale! 🪄🧡
A few months ago, animal organizations from across the state worked together to relocate 25 dogs residing on a property in Hamilton County, Florida, where they were living in unsanitary conditions without access to proper diets or medical care. Once rescue groups were able to secure the dogs, they were distributed to organizations around Florida, including Pet Alliance.
One of the pups who came to us, Milo, was completely shut down when he first arrived at our Sanford location. All of the new sights, smells, and people must’ve been overwhelming after all he had been through in his short year of life. He didn’t even know how to walk on a leash, needing to be carried to and from his kennel when he first arrived.
Pet Alliance staff and volunteers delicately worked to make the new experiences less scary using positive reinforcement like peanut butter and other treats. Though Milo began to decompress after a few days in our care, we hoped that the right home for this special dog would find him soon.
Only a handful of days after he arrived, Natalie came to the shelter to visit Milo and they formed an instant connection. While Natalie knew her new family member was going to take time to come out of his shell, she took on the challenge courageously and with extreme patience.
We’re happy to report that after only a few months in his new, loving home, Milo has made incredible progress with Natalie by his side! She recently gave us this update: “When Milo came home, he was absolutely terrified. It took a few days for him to even come up the stairs. Once he realized he was safe, he began following me around everywhere, and is now glued to my side. He has become my best friend. He is the sweetest most goofy buddy, and loves chasing lizards, spotting squirrels, and being the center of attention. At first I was worried, as the adjustment period was definitely a real thing — but now, I couldn’t imagine not having Milo in my life!”
🐾 Our ability to take in emergency transfers like Milo is reliant on the generous support of our community. This Giving Tuesday, your contribution to help our pets will go twice as far, as our friends at The Sherry Chappell Cooper Foundation have agreed to match all gifts up to $100,000!
