Did you see the visitor we had at the office on Wednesday?! Wednesday was World Lizard Day and we were graced with the presence of Zeus, an 8 year old bearded dragon!
Fun fact: Did you know that bearded dragons have a third eye called the parietal eye? This eye can sense shadows to help keep them safe from predators!

Meet Oso! & He is a 5 year old Argentine Dogo who exudes everything it means to be a gentle giant. Weighing in at over 180 lbs, he has a lot of love to go around. Oso first came to the practice as a 34 lb puppy back in 2019! Oso's owners called in with the concern of a small, eraser-sized lump that would occasionally bleed. Dr. Wolfe and Aislinn were scheduled for a house call to check out the lump and elected cryotherapy. This house call got that pesky lump addressed and Oso's routine vaccinations completed!
House calls are available upon request for well-tempered pets. Please give us a call if you would like to get more information on this service!

Stick Your Tongue Out!!!

When your pet sticks his or her tongue out, do you smell something funky?! Stinky breath may mean bad teeth! Your pets oral hygiene starts at home. We recommend Oravet dental chews and teeth brushing as the first line of defense for your pets oral health.

If you’re brushin and Fluffy’s mouth is still stinkin, then a full dental cleaning may be needed. Please call the office to set up an appointment for Dr. Wolfe to check out your dogs teeth. Proper dental care will put stinky breath to rest!

Happy Caturday!

What is your cat thinking? Are they in a good mood or are they upset or angry?

In the veterinary setting cats are often upset and we have to read their body language to know how to approach and handle them.

This is a great body language graphic and a fun article to help you learn more about your cats body language!

How many teeth do dogs have?

Dogs typically have 42 adult teeth, while cats have 30.

There is nothing Dr. Wolfe likes to see more than clean teeth! Teeth care can include teeth brushing, dental wipes and dental treats.

We DO NOT recommend bones, antlers and the like as chew items. These hard chew objects can cause damage to your dog's teeth up to and including a slab fracture. A common type of slab fracture is where the large tooth on the maxilla (top jaw) becomes fractured in a vertical fashion. This may mean a trip to the veterinary dental specialist!

What’s that green line?

It’s a spay or neuter tattoo!!!

Many clients ask us what this is or try to rub it off their newly adopted pet thinking it’s a stain. This line indicates the animal has been altered - spaying for females and neutered for males. Sometimes it is difficult or impossible to see a healed spay or neuter incision- this tattoo eliminates the question of if the pet is altered!

Here is an article from UF about this:

Happy Caturday!

Look at these toe beans!!! 🫘 🐾

This little lady was found and now has an amazing home! Cats normally have 18 toes with 5 on the front feet and 4 toes on the rear paws. Having extra toes is called polydactyly.

We LOVE toe beans!

Do you have a cat with extra toes or just great toe beans? We would love to see them! Show us some cat toe beans!

Tomorrow is ! As we approach the summer months, we want to remind you to keep your furry friends nice and cool to avoid the risk of heat stress/heat stroke. Some things you can do to help keep your pet from overheating are: Provide your pet with plenty of water and shade, give cold/frozen treats, do not exercise them during the hottest parts of the day, use booties to protect their feet from hot surfaces (asphalt, gravel, etc), and especially Do Not leave your pet in the car.

Temperatures of 90° or higher can be too hot for most dogs to be outdoors. Some dogs are pre-disposed to overheating due to traits such as Brachycephalic (flat-faced), Obesity, Age, and Long/Thick Coats.

Remember, if it’s too hot for you, it’s too hot for your dog!

💝 Happy Moments 💝
We are so happy to share a heartwarming success story in hopes of brightening your day! Pictured is Jimmy, a 7 year old male neutered golden doodle. 🐩 He came in back in early April with the complaint of lethargy, inappetence, and weight loss. During his exam it was noted that he had enlarged lymph nodes, confirmed weight loss, and X-rays 🩻 showed a mass in his chest. 💔 Dr. Wolfe recommended referral to Southeast Veterinary Oncology (SEVO). Jimmy was seen promptly and diagnosed with lymphoma, a blood cancer 🩸 that begins by attacking the lymphatic system.
Jimmy went through a round of chemotherapy with SEVO and now, just a month later, seems to be doing much better! His oncologist stated that he is in clinical remission already! 😄 There is only a 5% chance of patients going into clinical remission once diagnosed, Sweet Jimmy is part of that 5%!!
We bring this story to you to make you aware of the impact that modern oncology can have on your pets. Jimmy has been a long time patient. He and his family have the entire GAH staff rooting for him on his remission journey. 🐩🥰💗🐾
If you have some kind words to share with his family, please don’t hesitate to drop a comment below! 👇

05/07/2024

With National Animal Disaster Preparedness Day tomorrow, we want to take a moment to emphasize the importance of microchipping your beloved furry companions. As your local veterinary clinic, we want to ensure the safety and well-being of your pets, especially during unexpected moments or emergencies.

Microchipping your pet is a simple yet invaluable tool that significantly increases the chances of reuniting lost pets with their owners. Here’s how:
1. Permanent Identification: Unlike collars and tags, which can fall off or be removed, a microchip is a tiny, permanent form of identification implanted just beneath your pet’s skin. This unique identification number is linked to your contact information in a national pet recovery database.
2. Quick and Efficient Reunions: In the unfortunate event that your pet goes missing, shelters and veterinary clinics can scan for a microchip and retrieve your contact information from the database. This facilitates a swift reunion, sparing you and your pet unnecessary distress.
3. Disaster Preparedness: With hurricane season on the horizon, it’s crucial to take proactive measures to protect your pets. Microchipping ensures that even if your pet becomes separated from you during a natural disaster or evacuation, they have a better chance of being identified and returned to you safely.

In honor of National Animal Disaster Preparedness Day and the upcoming hurricane season, microchips are available for just $30 (normally $47.35) at our practice for existing clients. This limited-time offer provides an affordable opportunity for you to enhance your pet’s safety and peace of mind.

However, it’s essential to remember that a microchip is only as effective as the information linked to it. That’s why it’s crucial to keep your contact details up-to-date in the microchip registry. If you’ve moved, changed phone numbers, or updated your email address, please take a moment to update your pet’s microchip registration. This ensures that you can be reached promptly if your pet is found.

Ralph's adoption story:
Ralph is is a 9 year old kitten who came into my life through my mom (Dr. Wolfe). She was the vet at the humane society at the time and she asked me to help her take care of some foster kittens. I’ll never forget her coming home with a bunch of kittens and saying: “Zoe… I have a project for you!” She then handed me a litter of kittens with their mom. The project came from the fact that most of these kittens had signs of feline herpes. Over the next several weeks, these kittens became my buddies as I helped to medicate them multiple times a day. Out of all the kittens, there was one that stood out, my sweet little angel baby ralphy boy. He would greet me at the door, he would climb up my back to sit on my shoulder, and he was the only kitten who would never leave my side. Ralph was the spunkiest kitten of the litter and the runt so he was extra tiny and extra cute. To this day I refer to Ralph as my first born because he is the first pet who I have ever been fully responsible for and he is my fur baby. He is my best pal and my sweetest love. I love him with my whole heart and soul.
