Peter
Training Week 2
Peter is exceeding all expectations. I cannot state enough how great of a dog he is. He is only on the second week of training and is already proficient with week 5 skills. Peter has been able to learn all of the basic commands already. He does well with his duration and is getting better every day with distanced commands. This week we are going to start working more on generalization and get Peter used to working with others.
1/2/25 Daily Journal Entry
We have started working through CGC 1 and 2 with peter today. We thought this would be a little difficult, because of how friendly Peter is with everyone, but to our surprise he did great. He sat there with us the whole time, focusing on the handler and allowing people to walk up and pet him without him breaking from a sit.

Weekly Summary: WEEK TWO
Mikey has been doing very well here at PAWS! Some of his favorite things are running around and seeing new people, getting lots of pets and affection, group playtimes with other dogs, and playing with his toys! He has been doing great with his basic obedience and his behavioral issues are very minor and rarely seen lately. Mikey is one of the most affectionate dogs that I have had the chance to work with and I am having so much fun with him! He is very quick to learn and just as eager to work for food and praise! The past three weeks have been absolutely great and we look forward to the rest of our time with this loving boy!
1/4/25 Daily Journal
We have been working lots on distance downs, sits, and recalls with Mikey. This week I introduced stand to Mikey and he has been doing great at following the lure into the stand position and staying as I walk out in front of him without breaking. So far Mikey is brushed up on his basic obedience skills, but we still are reinforcing the little things, even if he knows them, every day.

Maverick is doing great, and consistently learning new skills. His sits are almost generalized and his downs are in the automation phase. He continues to pull on everyone’s heart strings with his loveable character and will make an awesome companion.
Daily Journal Entry 1/5/24
Maverick is working on his stand stays this week. He is a quick learner and enjoys working. He can become vocal when his play drive goes up but has appeared to remain only vocal. He does not resource guard toys. Maverick is a great dog.

Lavender
Weekly Summary Training Week2:
Lavender continues to progress in her training. She takes a little time to pick some things up, but when she gets them, she gets them and performs them well. She has started playing with both Mikey and Peter during play times. She doesn’t seek out her person as much anymore during play time, but when she is done playing she can find a spot and relax. She is progressing really well with her crate. She was a little difficult to get in her crate at first, but now she goes in without much difficulty. She really likes to lay down in front of a heater and fall asleep after she works. She is also becoming a big cuddle bug.
Daily Journal Entry: 01-03-2025
Worked on downs and while in a down back to sit. Introduced stands. Put Maverick and her together they sniffed around started to play then Lavender became standoffish. She had been playing really well with Peter and Mikey.

Jewels

Weekly Summary: Week 2
Jewels has been progressing nicely with her second week of obedience training. The team has been focusing on dialing in her sit, so she is at the perfect angle by our side as well as very close. She has learned the down command quick! We are using it freely during heel commands and she offers it almost perfectly. Her come-abouts are in need of some work. She hasn’t quite connected the command to the movements, but I believe she will get it quickly with some time and dedication. When we aren’t training Jewels, likes to sit in my lap and get pets. Sometimes she wants to play as well. If I run around Jewels, she gets very excited and chases me quickly. She gets so excited, she leaps into the air next to me, with a big smile on her face. She also loves to roll on her back and get belly scratches every morning. I think she will be a great dog for someone.

1/3/25 Daily Journal
Today me and jewels during morning circle worked together by herself, we did a mini circle with her just to keep her sharp and progressing forward. We will continue to work on duration and stay and leaves. She is doing very well with the amount she is learning. Jewels no longer pulls on lead and she has had no more accidents inside.

Brock
Weekly Summary Week:
Brock is showing more progress with his engagement and focus with the team when there are distractions around such as the other dogs. With all his energy all day when he gets to go play with the dogs he knows it’s a reward now and tries to behave and perform all his task to get his huge reward of play. This week Brock needs to really work on his distraction to another dog granted he is a fast learner but he does have his stubborn moments especially being around his friends that close so that is the next hurdle he will overcome in the week to come.
Daily Journal Entry: 12/31/24
Brock managed to finish out strong today. His come about is much stronger while sitting and down are almost on command. Circles where a complete win in my book and Brock seems to be focusing more on the handler during these exercises. He needs high value to get through them but with a little work he will exhibit full engagement before we know it.

Peter
Training Week 1
Peter has really settled in well here. He has met all the other dogs here and gets along great with them. Peter loves to play with the other dogs and does great in all play groups. Aside from being very sociable, Peter is also progressing very fast in his obedience training. He is already way ahead of schedule, learning his sit, down, heel, and recalls. It takes him a little bit to understand what we are asking of him, but once he does it, he retains the information very well. Peter has proven to be quite the star.
12/26/24 Daily Journal Entry
Today we had more success on working on Peter’s downs. He is now consistently downing when we give the command. Peter was also able to go on a car ride today and he did amazing. On returning Peter had a play session one on one with Lavender. She had seemed a little nervous in the big pack, but one on one with Peter and they were both having a blast

Mikey

Weekly Summary: WEEK ONE TRAINING
Mikey has Acclimated very well the past two weeks! We have worked lots on his basic obedience as well as some of his behavior issues. Mikey’s main issues have been mouthing and hu***ng. These have been simple behaviors to curve as he only does them when he is excited or you take a stimulus away from him. To work on this we simply tell him “no” and ignore him. Once he calms down and offers a different behavior such as a sit or just a calm stand then we will tell him “good” and reward the calm behavior with kibble or soft pets. Mikey is heeling great, sitting at your side in a heel, bout and left about turns, and now does sit-stays. We have been hammering in the “down” command and he is picking it up slowly but surely. Mikey responds to his name 9/10 times now, even in certain distracting situations which is great!
12/28/24 Daily Journal
Today I introduced the “down” command to Mikey. He was very slow to pick up on the lure and did not want to lay all the way down. I started by luring him into the down from a sit while I was down on his level so he didn’t feel so overcrowded. It took a while for him to want to lay in front of me as he seemed super nervous with his ears tucked back and trying to walk backwards away from me. Once I was able to get his front elbows to reach the ground I would release him and reward him heavily. We worked on this all day and haven’t made a ton of progress, but the trust is building

Maverick

Weekly Summary – Week 1:
Maverick is doing great walking on a loose lead. He likes to love on you and wants to be close. He enjoys playing with the other dogs and is even acclimating to the rain. Maverick also does a good job of letting you know when he has to go to the bathroom. He is learning his CGCs quickly and is easy to work with.
Daily Journal Entry12/30/24
This week, Maverick was able to have a play time in the rain with the other dogs. He did a great job and thoroughly enjoyed it. He usually doesn’t like the water outside but has been improving his desire to be out in the rain. His sits are looking great and he is learning more CGCs quickly. Maverick is a wonderful dog.

Lavender
Weekly Summary Training Week 1:
Lavender is a very smart girl. She is picking up on her commands really well. She learned sit in a couple of days and continues to show improvement with it. She has done really well with not mouthing and jumping on people when she first meets them. She has not had a negative interaction with people since being placed in the PAWS program. Lavender is also getting along well another dog here named Peter. They play together really well. Overall the first week of Lavender’s training went really well.
Daily Journal Entry: 12-29-24
Lavender is doing well. She is doing really well on her downs and sit stays. She seem unsure with her come-abouts, though she does them fairly well. Her and Peter seem to do really well playing one-on-one. They had a short play session today and they both had a lot of fun.

Jewels

Weekly Summary: Week 1
We’ve had a week to observe Jewels, her behavior and personality and she is a spunky dog. She is very loving to many people here and shows interest in getting pets as we walk down the halls. She likes to jump on tables and chairs and just stand there and look around. It is quite funny although this is a behavior we are not going to reinforce. We are working through situations where she gets a little scared around large crowds and loud noises. For the training aspect of things, we are teaching her sit, sit and a little jumping the gun and starting down. She is a really smart dog and sits at every door while keeping engagement with her handler. She has become my little friend in the short week here, and when I am walking down the hallway and she sees me while she’s with another handler, she gets super excited and starts jumping around like a nut. She likes to mostly lean in and get pets and rest her head on you, but occasionally she wants to get crazy and play.
12/26/24 Daily Journal
Had a quick circle today. It went okay. She becomes tense in close proximity to other dogs. We did an intro with Mikey and Maverick. She wasn’t interested in them and got vocal. We will have to work on this behavior. We also are working on treat zone and lure placement.

Brock
Weekly Summary Week:
For Brock’s first training week he shows how smart he is by taking all the new information and commands, (sit, down and heel) and performing them like it’s natural for him and he is used to them. The main thing that we have really been working on is behavioral training, Brock likes to get overstimulated and hyper focused when there are a lot of people and other dogs so we have been positively reinforcing when he wants to check in with us, even though it’s a slow process in a week he does show he is making progress.
Daily Journal Entry: 12/28/24
We working on sit and focus at doorways and Brock seems to be picking up well on these commands. I’ve also been able to start on the down command which he needs a little bit of a lure but seems to be understanding what is being asked of him. He still gets distracted easily at times. With that being said, he does not pull on the lead as often as he once did.

Brock
Weekly Summary Arrival Week:
Brock showed up here with a lot of fun loving energy and ready to explore. This week it has been spent getting to know Brock’s personality and allowing him to getting to know the whole team’s personality, and starting our new journey together. He got a chance to explore and start walking with us and realizing that we are all trying to help him succeed in his time here and to better his life.
Daily Journal Entry: 12-22-24
Day two was great and Brock seemed to settle in quite well considering it was only his second day here. We worked on a few behavioral issues such as his need to bolt out of his cage, pulling while walking, and focused attention on handler. He is very reactive to other dogs and has a tendency to mark and urinate in places like the sub-basement.

Jewels

Weekly Summary: Introduction Week 0
First impression of Jewels, is that she is a very affectionate, well behaved dog, but is unsure of how to act. She is very responsive to her name. Myself and the primary in training spent a good amount of time today calling her name and rewarding her response. She is a little timid in large crowded areas and around loud noises. Despite being a little shy, she also showed an adorable play side and around the whole 5 man team, she got super excited and showed off her zoomies and jumps. Her interest in toys isn’t significant but her ability to offer sit on day one is impressive. I look forward to working with Jewels. I think she is a very smart, capable dog and will do amazing on the obedient training. I would also like to spend the time we have with her building her confidence and showing her the love she so obviously has missed through her life. She is precious!
12/22/24 Daily Journal
We met Jewels today and she is such a sweetheart. We spent a lot of time letting her sniff around the facility and explore all the new areas. She recognizes her name already and loves to offer sit for rewards.

Lavender
Weekly Summary Arrival Week:
Lavender is a very sweet girl. She loves to give her people kisses and just be close to them. She was introduced to the other dogs this week and that went well. She really enjoyed meeting a dog named Peter. This week have worked on her name, “Good”, “Yes”, and “Okay”. She is catching on to these really quickly and she seems to be a very smart girl. She is really well behaved in her kennel.
Daily Journal Entry: 12-22-24
Lavender is a very smart girl. She is picking up on yes, good, and her name really quickly. She seems to be very food driven and also loves toys, especially balls and softer chew toys. The P.I.T. had his first day with her today and the bonding seem so be going well.

Maverick

Weekly Summary - Intro Assessment:
Maverick appears to be a very positive addition to this facility. He walks around confident in his ability to love and show compassion towards others. He didn’t like the crate when he first arrived but has settled in and does great now. Maverick met a few of the other dogs and did great without negative reactions. He enjoys playing tug and likes to take his time on walks. Overall he is doing well and will learn obedience skills very quickly.
Daily Journal Entry12/22/24
The dogs had introductions today and they went very well. Maverick did not react negatively towards any dogs and appears to be ready to play. Maverick enjoys being loved on, and likes to patiently make his way around the facility when you have him out on walks. He is already sitting and will be learning new skills very soon. We thoroughly appreciate this wonderful dog and look forward to the remaining weeks we have with Maverick.

Mikey

Weekly Summary: EVALUATION WEEK (week one)
Since Mikey has arrived, he has done so great! He is most definitely a huge people person once he gets a good read and sniff on you. He warms up to people pretty quick and creates a bond within the first couple of days. So far Mikey has been a little bit skiddish when it comes to fast sudden movements or loud bangs. In those situations he tucks his tail and cowers close to his handler, but comes out of the funk rather quickly. Since Mikey’s arrival we have started to shape heel, sit, bout and left about turns, as well as kennel. At first, Mikey did not like going into his kennel and fought it. Over much repetition I can now sit Mikey in front of his kennel and tell him “kennel” and he goes right in with no problem and gets a handful of kibble thrown in each time. Lastly, when Mikey showed up he didn’t respond to his name. I have been charging his name through positive reinforcement and high reward and he has shown a lot of progress but still doesn’t have it all the way down. This is a very special dog who is going to deserve the warmest, loving home.
12/22/24 Daily Journal
Mikey walks pretty decent on lead, he’s not a huge puller, but he does walk out pretty far in front of you at the end of the lead. Yesterday evening I started to shape the heel command. It has gone smoothly as he is food motivated. He has picked up the command and made it so easy to shape, I am pleasantly surprised! Today Mikey met all of the dogs and did great. He was a lot for some of the dogs because all he wanted to do was play, play, play! I don’t believe that Mikey will have any issues with the dogs in this pack. As long as we regulate energy and any dominant signs we should be able to make this a pleasant experience.
