depending on the roast desired, dictates the moisture content left in the chaff. Dark roast produces a more dense and weighty chaff while a light roast produces a light “fluffy” chaff. Here at Roasted, we blend the different types to get a blend that is both absorbent and fluffy. This why when you receive your order you’ll see different shades and sizes of chaff.

Coffee chaff can be used as a substrate and/or substrate amendment.

Coffee chaff is an excellent source of nitrogen: Coffee chaff can be composted for its richness in nitrogen! If you're into gardening and farming like we are, then you definitely know how valuable Nitrogen is to all crops. Because coffee chaff has undergone the roasting process, the acidity that is naturally found in it has been depleted. This makes coffee chaff a good additive for neutralizing the pH in your soil or substrate.

Organic Fertilizer: Replace expensive dry amendments with natural healthy organic coffee chaff and watch your garden flourish with nitrogen all season. Replacing dry amendments with our coffee chaff will ensure slow release nutrient uptake for your plants and mushrooms.

Bedding: Various animals including livestock, hamsters, worms and even snakes use coffee chaff bedding as a cost-effective alternative to wood based bedding! It's also a great way to save our trees!

Food for Animals: Many of the smaller domesticated animals and some grain fed livestock will eat coffee chaff. However, IT IS NOT recommended as a feed or bedding for horses. Our coffee chaff comes already processed, which means all sugars and acid has been removed.

Mulching: Our gourmet chaff makes for an incredible cost efficient mulch.

Pest Deterrent: Many of the natural plant pests hate coffee chaff because they do not like the smell of coffee. Therefore, coffee chaff is a great cost-effective way to rid your garden of snails, slugs and other pests.
