UPDATE: I have been contacted by another owner whose dog died of an infectious disease right after a stay at a facility owned by these people. Are you keeping count? I am. So far, that's 5 dead dogs and 10 dogs who were sick, injured, or malnourished. All of these incidents occurred within the last year and I am still being contacted by more owners.

UPDATE
I received a report from another owner who sent her healthy 8-month old puppy to this facility for training. The puppy was up to date on all of his vet care and was in excellent condition when he arrived at the facility owned by the Sabers. On Saturday, February 4, 2023, Fred Saber called the owner and asked her to pick up her puppy because he wasn’t feeling well. When the owner picked her puppy up, he was skin and bones, despite having been at an appropriate weight when she had dropped him off just a week earlier. The owner sought help from her nextdoor neighbor, a veterinarian, until she could get her puppy to the vet for treatment. Unfortunately, her puppy died right in front of her on her living room floor the following morning, February 5, 2023. It would seem that Fred Saber is not making any attempts to remedy the horrific conditions of his kennel. Dogs are continuing to die. This death is at least partly on Oakland County Animal Control and Oakland County Sheriff’s Department. Both were made aware of Maple Lane Kennels and Charlie’s death. They chose to do nothing. Now another dog is dead.

BEWARE!!! This is Maple Lane Kennels located at 2939 Hummer Lake Road, Ortonville, Michigan and that’s, Charlie. Charlie had been given a clean bill of health by his vet before his family left him in the care of Maple Lane Kennels. He died within hours of his family bringing him home. Here is what they had to say:

Over Christmas my family went abroad. We boarded Charlie as well as our two other dogs for a little over two weeks at Maple Lane Kennels in Ortonville, MI.

We provided them with written, specific instructions explaining how he needed to be fed separately as our other dogs would poach his food. Maple Lanes disregarded these instructions entirely.

When we dropped Charlie off in late December ‘22 he was a happy, healthy, energetic dog. I remember he immediately ran around exploring the kennel when I dropped him off. When we picked him up just a few days after the New Year he was an entirely different dog. His fur was stained yellow, he was 25% lighter, he had no energy, he was unresponsive, and unable to walk.

I had to carry him to the car.

We brought him home, bathed him, (as he was soaked in his own urine and f***s), and rushed him to the emergency vet soon after as his condition was not improving. Within 6 hours of picking our boy up, Oakland Veterinary Referral Services (local vet ER in Oakland County, MI) recommended we put him down, as he was in severe pain with no chance of recovering.

The day I picked Charlie up, Fred Saber, the owner of Maple Lanes, told me Charlie had been seen by a Vet the day prior and, “would be fine.” We would have taken him to OVRS sooner, but this situation was unthinkable. Unfortunately, it was determined by OVRS that those few hours between pickup from Maple Lanes and taking him to their location would not have mattered. His condition was determined to have been terminal before we picked Charlie up.

Charlie’s death was entirely preventable. It was caused by the owner Fred Saber and Kelley Saber’s gross negligence and failure to acknowledge Charlie’s deteriorating condition as well as gross negligence of the Maple Lane staff. Had they called a Vet, had they taken him to a Vet (as we had authorized), had they called us, had they done ANYTHING, Charlie would still be with us. He was a healthy dog, and a Grand Champion with a bloodline and medical record that showed he would have had YEARS left.

Maple Lane Kennels killed my dog… They killed my boy.
