The puppies are currently 10 weeks old. Momma was a seemingly purebred, 90lbs Rottweiler. We have no idea what dad was.

Stars is a 6-month-old mixed breed, possibly with some heeler or hound in his lineage, and weighs about 25 pounds. He and his brother, Stripes, were found on Flag Day with little known about their past. Sadly, when they arrived at the shelter, it was clear they were significantly behind in their socialization and development skills. But with the dedication and love from our staff and volunteers over the past two months, Stars has made incredible progress and is now ready to begin looking for his forever home.

Stars has a naturally timid and nervous disposition, but beneath that shyness is a heart full of love. He craves attention and affection but is still learning how to fully trust and engage with people. Stars has formed close bonds with his shelter family, showing that, with patience and kindness, he can truly open up and become a loving companion.

Because of his past, Stars will need a home with someone who is patient, understanding, and willing to take things slow. He’ll thrive in an environment where his new family is committed to continuing his training and helping him feel safe and secure. Stars will require ongoing socialization, positive reinforcement, and gentle guidance as he acclimates to a new lifestyle.

Stars does well with other dogs and actually seems to gain confidence when he's around them. Having a confident canine companion in his new home could help him adjust more quickly and continue to build his self-esteem. While it’s not a requirement, a home with another dog could be a great match for him.

Stars is looking for a dedicated adopter who understands that he may take time to fully come out of his shell. In return, he offers the potential for a deep and rewarding bond. Say hello to Chevy, a beautiful 7-year-old Lab mix. This sweet girl was found as a stray at Public Beach #2, so we don’t know much about her life before she was rescued. However, what we do know is that Chevy has an incredible personality that’s impossible not to fall in love with. She’s a gentle, affectionate soul who craves human connection and thrives on attention from her people.

There is no denying that she's a big girl, but Chevy is currently on a journey to a healthier lifestyle, and she’s making great progress. Her cheerful demeanor and willingness to be active make her an excellent candidate for someone who enjoys casual walks and a bit of playtime. Plus, she has the best smile you’ve ever seen – it’s the kind of smile that lights up a room and instantly brightens your day.

Chevy is a social butterfly who gets along wonderfully with other dogs and has yet to meet a stranger she didn’t want to befriend. Whether it’s a person or another dog, Chevy is eager to make new friends and spread her love. ❤️❤️ ADOPTED! ❤️❤️

Meet Mongo, a handsome and spirited young Great Dane who’s ready to find his forever home! At 1-2 years old and weighing in at 100 pounds, Mongo is working on getting back to his ideal weight after being found as a stray. Despite his large size and tall stature, Mongo is a gentle giant at heart, especially when it comes to his interactions with people. He’s the kind of dog who will eagerly greet you with a wagging tail and a big, slobbery smile, ready to soak up all the love and attention you have to offer.

Mongo’s journey hasn’t been an easy one. After being found wandering alone, the kind person who took him in tried to give him a home. Unfortunately, Mongo’s presence wasn’t well-received by their resident dogs, leading to a series of scuffles that left everyone a little worse for wear. Though Mongo was on the receiving end of some injuries, he’s been patched up and is now physically healthy and emotionally ready to move forward.

Due to his past experiences, Mongo has become quite defensive around other dogs. While he’s absolutely wonderful with people—super friendly, affectionate, and always up for a cuddle—he does need to be the only dog in his new home. Mongo would do best with an owner who understands his background and is committed to providing him with the structure and security he needs. He’s a very strong and powerful dog, so it’s important that his new family is comfortable handling a large breed with energy to spare.

Mongo’s personality is a perfect mix of playful and loving. He’s outgoing, full of energy, and always up for a game or a walk. He’s also highly food-motivated, which will make training and bonding with him that much easier. Mongo has a lot of love to give, and he’s just waiting for the right person or family to come along and give him the chance to be the loyal, affectionate companion he’s destined to be. Mongo is ready to leave his past behind and start a new chapter with a family that will cherish him for the amazing dog he is. Maybe that could be you?

🐶🎓 Basic Obedience Classes 🎓🐶
September 26th - October 31st

Don't let your dog's manners be the scariest thing this halloween! Take some extra time with your best friend, and join us for our Obedience Classes where we'll have all the tricks and treats! We'll show you how to imprint invaluable skills, and help your pup to become a well-behaved member of your family and community. Foundational Skills will be covered, such as; Walking nicely on a leash, answering their name, coming when called, leaving an item of interest, manners around strangers, impulse control, and home etiquette. As well as Basic Commands; Sit, Lay Down, and Stay.

+ Classes will be held Thursdays at 6pm, lasting roughly an hour. +
+ Applications can be filled out online or submitted at the shelter. +

We are excited to be partnering with Pamper Chef to raise money for Dogwood Animal Shelter! We are hosting a virtual party in the month of August to help support the animals in our care. And, Pampered Chef will be donating up to 30% of the proceeds to the Shelter!!! Please take a few minutes to join the party, invite your friends, and share this post as often as you can!

NOW ACCEPTING APPLICATIONS!
We are thrilled to announce that applications are now open for these cute kids!

Momma Rookie, a seemingly purebred Rottweiler, was picked up by animal control and never claimed. Shortly after finding her way into our care, had a litter. Rookie is a total sweetheart and a wonderful mother with an amazing temperament- so it was no surprise when she was adopted as soon as she was able to be. But now that her puppies are getting close to ready, it's time for them to start looking for their forever homes!

Meet the pups: Apollo (m), Artemis (f), Atlas (m), Zeus (m), Harmonia (f), Ajax (m), Nyx (f), and Echo (f)! They are sure to grow into large, loving companions – Rookie weighed 90 lbs, and there is no telling what dad was.

The puppies are currently 7 weeks old and will be ready to join their new families starting 8/15/24. 🗓️
