Our Mission:
The mission of Animal’s Best Friend Fund is to reduce the stray, feral and unwanted dog and cat populations in Kalamazoo and Van Buren Counties (Michigan) by providing spay/neuter programs targeted to assist low/fixed income persons and feral cat caretakers. Our programs are reducing the number of cats and dogs being euthanized at area animal control facilities. How We Work:
Animal’s

Best Friend Fund is an all-volunteer nonprofit 501(c)3 organization. We partner with select area veterinary clinics to provide spay/neuter surgeries for dogs and cats in need. It is our policy that over 90% of all income received goes directly to helping animals - not to salaries or excessive administrative expenses. Since our inception in 1981, we have helped to spay/neuter over 50,000 cats and dogs! Our Programs:

Subsidized Spay/Neuter Program for Cats and Dogs:
If funding is available, Animal's Best Friend will pay for part of your pet's spay/neuter surgery. The subsidy amounts are as follows:

Cat: $40

Dog: $80

Each month, ABF works with certain area veterinary clinics by authorizing the clinic to provide a certain amount in subsidies.

Call 269-624-1090 and listen to the recording to find out which veterinary clinics have been selected, and then ask to make an appointment with one of them. When you schedule the appointment, ask if there is any ABF money left to apply to your pet's surgery. You will be responsible for paying the balance of your bill after the subsidy is applied.

Your best chance of getting the surgery subsidized is by scheduling your appointment early in the month when the clinics are first authorized to use the money. Free Spay/Neuter Program for Feral and Free-Roaming Cats:
ABF also strives to make a difference in the lives of feral and free-roaming cats by focusing on TNR (trap-neuter-release) in selected areas of Kalamazoo and Van Buren counties. What Doesn't Animal's Best Friend Do? Animal's Best Friend's focus is on spay/neuter. If you need help with other vet care, help finding a home for an animal, or want to adopt a pet, please contact some of the other Michigan organizations who may be able to assist you. See the Resources page for help.

What a great turnout we had at our Christmas bake today at Pet Supplies Plus Westnedge. We raised $4341.00 for our spay neuter programs. Thanks to everyone who participated to help make this happen!

Thanks to our loyal volunteers and donors we had 121 cats and dogs neutered during the month of November. Our funds are critically low. You can help by attending our Christmas bake sale which is being held this Saturday, December 14 from 9-3 at Pet Supplies Plus Westnedge in Portage. Stop by and make a purchase or a donation to help us reach our goal of raising $2000 at this sale. Can’t make it to the bake sale? You can still help us by sending a year end tax deductible donation to us at P.O. Box 443, Oshtemo, MI 49077 or on our website www.animals best friend fund.org.

I’m sorry to report that Bill King (Karen King’s husband) passed away this morning at Bronson Hospital in Kalamazoo, MI. Bill was the co-founder of Animal's Best Friend and he actively supported Karen’s work over the last 44 years. Founding Animal's Best Friend was Bill’s idea as he saw this as his wife’s life’s work. Bill faced many health issues in the last few years of his life but his love of animals never waivered. He is survived by his wife of 45 years Karen Douglas King, his son Charles W. King Jr (Tammy) brother Howard King (Suzy), his dog Noah and cats Kaelin and Kylie. He is also survived by his best friends Jerry Cameruci, Matt Mannikko and Rodney Reid who he loved dearly. Out of respect for his wishes there will be no funeral or services and he has been cremated. Those who wish may make donations to Animals Best Friend, PO Box 443, Oshtemo, MI 49077 or online at www.animalsbestfriendfund.com so that his vision of helping animals in Kalamazoo and Van Buren counties can be carried on.
