Our Mission:
The mission of Animal’s Best Friend Fund is to reduce the stray, feral and unwanted dog and cat populations in Kalamazoo and Van Buren Counties (Michigan) by providing spay/neuter programs targeted to assist low/fixed income persons and feral cat caretakers. Our programs are reducing the number of cats and dogs being euthanized at area animal control facilities. How We Work:
Animal’s

Best Friend Fund is an all-volunteer nonprofit 501(c)3 organization.We partner with select area veterinary clinics to provide spay/neuter surgeries for dogs and cats in need. It is our policy that over 90% of all income received goes directly to helping animals - not to salaries or excessive administrative expenses. Since our inception in 1981, we have helped to spay/neuter over 50,000 cats and dogs! Our Programs:

Subsidized Spay/Neuter Program for Cats and Dogs:
If funding is available, Animal's Best Friend will pay for part of your pet's spay/neuter surgery. The subsidy amounts are as follows:

Cat: $40

Dog: $80

Each month, ABF works with certain area veterinary clinics by authorizing the clinic to provide a certain amount in subsidies.

Call 269-624-1090 and listen to the recording to find out which veterinary clinics have been selected, and then ask to make an appointment with one of them. When you schedule the appointment, ask if there is any ABF money left to apply to your pet's surgery. You will be responsible for paying the balance of your bill after the subsidy is applied.

Your best chance of getting the surgery subsidized is by scheduling your appointment early in the month when the clinics are first authorized to use the money. Free Spay/Neuter Program for Feral and Free-Roaming Cats:
ABF also strives to make a difference in the lives of feral and free-roaming cats by focusing on TNR (trap-neuter-release) in selected areas of Kalamazoo and Van Buren counties. What Doesn't Animal's Best Friend Do? Animal's Best Friend's focus is on spay/neuter. If you need help with other vet care, help finding a home for an animal, or want to adopt a pet, please contact some of the other Michigan organizations who may be able to assist you. There is nothing scarier ANY day of the year than an unfixed tom cat impregnating everything within a mile radius and the unwanted litters overpopulating our rescues and shelters as a result! Please spay and neuter your pets!

Thanks to our donors, bakers and volunteers we exceeded our goal and raised $2825 at today’s Halloween bake sale! Thanks also to our friends at Pet Supplies Plus Westnedge for providing the location for our bake sales. Our next bake sale will be our Christmas sale on December 14 from 9:00-3:00. Don’t forget to come see us tomorrow for our Halloween bake sale at Pet Supplies Plus Westnedge (across from Meijers). We will be there from 9:00-3:00 selling our yummy baked goods and our ABF t-shirts in adult sizes for $10.00 each. Our goal is to raise $2000 at this bake sale to help pay for the neutering expenses for the new TNR project that Darline is working on in Kalamazoo. There are at least 19 cats and kittens in this colony. It is an unsafe area where no cat or kitten should have to live. Four kittens have been trapped so far and we are hoping to find homes for them so they don’t have to be returned to this dicey, druggy area. If you’re interested in adopting one of them call Darline at 2693537115. Please come see us tomorrow and make a purchase or a donation to help us raise the money that we need to neuter these cats.

Sorry for the tiny print, but the message is important. Cats should not be left unsupervised with toys that have strings or feathers. Choking hazards and if a cat chews/swallows any/all of either, he/she can develop serious gastric distress/blockages. So easily avoided! 😽💕

Today is a very special day, it is our founder's birthday! We ordered this gorgeous weather just for Karen's birthday! The only thing that could make the day better is if she had more funding for our spay/neuter programs. Karen literally answers hundreds of call, texts and Facebook messages every month of people asking for our help. Without your support, our program will not survive. There are not enough good homes that are not already full of pets. There are not enough good homes that can afford spay/neuter and a lifetime of vet care and supplies. The only way to slow this crisis is for you to get all of your animals altered. If your dog or cat has puppies or kittens and you didn’t ask for help to prevent it, you are the problem. Aggressive spay/neuter is the only way out. Ask for the help you need. There are plenty of groups and individuals that will try to help, not just us.
