Who needs January plans?

Biscuit is a 7 year old hound mix. Biscuit has one of the most heartbreaking stories here at the shelter. Our Animal Control Officer picked up Biscuit in October 2022. She got a call that there was a dog that was extremely skinny and was unable to stand. They had actually found him in barbed wire fencing. The ACO had to carry him to their truck because biscuit was so weak he could not walk and had a hard time standing. Once Biscuit was brought to the shelter he was immediately weighed. He weighed 14 pounds. Biscuit was into the vet that morning. Biscuit ended up having to be admitted to the vet clinic because of his condition. He had pancreatic issues due to his weight. The way he was fed and what he was fed was very strict because his stomach could have problems digesting food. Everyday Biscuits health got better! He was able to leave the vet clinic after several days. His strict feeding plan was still in place for months. Biscuit is super healthy after all the hard work of the shelter staff and the vet. He is a very shy dog and does take a little bit of time to trust people which is completely understandable given his previous life. As you can see Biscuit now eats very well! Due to his severe conditions he was in and we knew who the owner was, Biscuit became a court case. Animal Control learned during the court process that the person responsible for Biscuit just didn't have the means or ability to take on Biscuit when he was left to him. His owner was very remorseful and signed Biscuit over to us. This is why we have started Biscuits Cupboard so the shelter can help people who need a helping hand.
Staff at the shelter have been working with Biscuit to get him out of his comfort zone and he started to go outside more and want to be around the staff. Biscuit started making huge strides thanks to an amazing volunteer that had started coming out and walking Biscuit often. Staff at the shelter saw a HUGE difference in his personality. Biscuit now gets excited to see this volunteer. Biscuit loves other dogs. He prefers older kids like 12 and up. He was a trained hunting dog before we picked him up so we do think that he will chase cats.
