Since 1974, the Greater Hillsdale Humane Society (GHHS) has been dedicated to the welfare and protection of animals. The organization is an independent, registered 501(c)3 nonprofit operating under no-kill standards. We are focused on helping orphaned, injured and abused pets by providing them safe shelter, care and nutrition which will help them lead happy, healthy lives. In addition, our mission

is to relieve the suffering and the prevention of cruelty to animals. We do not receive any government funding, and rely solely on contributions made by members of the community. Surrenders are appointment based- if you need to surrender an animal, please call the shelter to make an appointment.

Little Guy is a handsome gentleman who is ready to get out and find his furever home! He is just over 2 years old, and is as sweet as can be!

This handsome fella is dog and kid friendly. As for cats? We’re not sure yet, but we think he could adapt well to a feline friend with the proper introductions.

Little Guy already knows “sit,” and he’s ready to learn more if you have some tasty treats on hand (he really loves them).

If you’re looking for a guy with a big heart, Little Guy could be your new best friend!He is neutered, up to date on vaccines, mircochipped, and heartworm negative.

We are looking for a home ASAP for Big Mac! 🍔

Big Mac came to us on 11/9/24, and is not doing well in the shelter. He is currently at the vet, as he has lost some weight and this boy came to us fat and happy! His bloodwork showed that he was stressed here at the shelter, as there are no other physical issues with him.

Big Mac was unfortunately declawed on all 4 feet before he came to us, so he will need to be strictly an indoor cat. While he’s not a fan of being held (he prefers all four paws firmly on the ground!), Big Mac is affectionate in his own way and loves being near his humans. He’s content to hang out and be close to you as you go about your day.

Big Mac would do best in a home with older kids who understand his need for a calm environment. With the right space and some tasty treats, he’ll be your loyal, purring buddy. Big Mac is not dog / cat friendly.

He is neutered, up to date on vaccines, microchipped, and FeLV-FIV negative.

Baby is one of our long term resident dogs here at the shelter! Similar to a lot of our long term residents, Baby has had little to no interest since she’s been in our care!

Baby is around 1.5 years old, and is pretty high energy. She would do best in a home that is active- like her! She loves to run and play, and would be a great running buddy! Baby is dog and kid friendly- due to her high energy we recommend a cat-free home.

Baby is spayed, up to date on vaccines, microchipped, and heartworm negative.

King is one of our long term resident dogs here at the shelter! He’s had little to no interest since he’s been in our care- we aren’t sure why! He’s a total love bug!

King is dog selective- so if you have another dog a meet and greet is required. We think he would do best in a cat-free home. King is kid friendly!

Betty Lou Who is a sweet, vocal kitty who thrives on attention and affection. She loves indulging in wet food and treats, and her ideal day involves receiving as many pets as possible. While not particularly playful, her calm and gentle nature makes her a delightful companion. Having previously lived outdoors with other cats, Betty Lou Who is familiar with feline company. Though she might initially be frightened of dogs, with time and patience, she could likely adjust.

She's ready to share her loving nature in a home where she can be showered with care and affection. Betty Lou Who is spayed, up to date on vaccines, microchipped, and FeLV-FIV negative.

Abel is one of our long term resident dogs here at the shelter! He was previously adopted and returned due to no fault of his own. Abel needs to be the only pet in the home, and with older children.

Abel is on a low-cost anti anxiety medication that he will need to stay on for the rest of his life. He is his best self while medicated!

Abel is neutered, up to date on vaccines, microchipped, and heartworm negative.

Buster is our longest resident here at the shelter- and he’s just a puppy! He’s such a sweet boy, and has had nothing but 5 Star reviews after his happy hour appointments!

Buster is a high energy pup- his ideal family would be one where he can do lots of outdoor activities. Need a running buddy? Buster is your guy!

As we get tons of applications in for our more ‘purebred’ or ‘fancy’ looking cats and dogs, we wanted to showcase our list of long term resident cats! These cats have been available for 6+ months with no interest- and we aren’t really sure why!

We encourage everyone to take a look at our longest residents, as they are just as deserving of love and forever homes!

Our annual rummage sale starts tomorrow! Open at fairgrounds 4H building until 4:00 today for donations. The sale starts tomorrow and lasts through Saturday!

Check out our adult dogs who are looking for furever homes for #EmptyTheShelters! We've had a slower adoption season for dogs, and most of these dogs have had ZERO applications! Come and visit, and don't forget to share!!

We’ve got kitties that come in all sizes at GHHS! Check out some of our ‘big boys’ available for adoption! ❤️

We are in need of more goodies for our enrichment toys! Enrichment is key to keeping shelter dogs happy and healthy while they wait for their furever homes! Items we could use are: 🥜Peanut butter (Xylitol Free) 🐮Plain Greek Yogurt 🎃Pumpkin Purée 🍗Sliced Deli Meat 🌭Hotdogs 🧀Sliced Cheese 🍓Frozen Fruits ( Strawberries, Bananas, Blueberries) 🥕Veggies (Sweet potatoes, Green beans, peas, Bell Peppers, Carrots) Along with the foods, we could use more Kongs and Large Silicon molds to make Popsicles! Tomorrow our Emergency #EmptyTheShelters event begins at 10AM! This event is in hopes to get our long term resident pets out of the shelter and into homes. This event will last until 2/10/24, and long term resident dogs have a reduced adoption fee of $30! Come and visit!
