Deer Run All Accessible Trail in Constitution Park receives additional $40,000 in grants
OSSIPEE — The Friends of Constitution Park Ossipee (FCPO) is excited to announce the receipt of two generous grants totaling $40,000 in support of the Deer Run All Accessible Trail project in Constitution Park, Ossipee. The New Hampshire Charitable Foundation’s John Vance ACCESS Fund has awarded a $25,000 grant, while the Davis Conservation Foundation has provided an additional $15,000.
These vital funds will go towards the project aimed at providing all individuals, regardless of ability, with the opportunity to experience the natural beauty of Ossipee. The Deer Run All Accessible Trail is designed to accommodate a wide range of users, including those with mobility challenges, offering an easy-to-navigate path that will enhance outdoor recreation and foster a deeper connection to the environment for the entire community. The purpose of The John Vance ACCESS fund is to provide support to organizations and programs that support individuals with disabilities in New Hampshire.
"We are deeply grateful to both the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation and the Davis Conservation Foundation for their generous support," said Edwina Boose, FCPO Board Chair. "This funding brings us one step closer to realizing a trail that will provide access to the park’s natural beauty for people of all abilities, ensuring that everyone can enjoy outdoor activities regardless of their physical challenges. We are excited about the impact this project will have on the community and the visitors who will benefit from it for years to come."
The Deer Run All Accessible Trail will feature a smooth, hard-packed surface suitable for wheelchairs, strollers, and other mobility aids. The trail has as a 550-foot boardwalk that winds through woodlands leading to a turn-around area overlooking Ossipee Lake and the Sandwich Mountains. The project aligns with the park’s mission to create educational and environmental experiences that welcomes residents and visitors of all ages and abilities.
Construction is expected to begin in August with an anticipated completion date and celebration in the fall. Once complete, the trail will serve as an important asset for safe recreational activities, nature walks, and outdoor education for the entire community.
The New Hampshire Charitable Foundation is New Hampshire’s statewide community foundation founded in 1962 by and for the people of New Hampshire. For six decades, thousands of people have entrusted their charitable resources to the Foundation, creating perpetual source of philanthropic capital and making it possible for the Foundation to award more than $60 million in grants and scholarships every year.
The Davis Conservation Foundation, was established by Phyllis C. Davis and H. Halsey Davis “to support protection of the environment and conservation of our natural resources.” The Foundation has provided more than $17.7 million in grants to conservation organizations since its founding in 1989. Their goal for the foundation is “To make grants where they will do the most good and where our gifts make a real difference."
Boose stated, “It is wonderful that these two organizations have recognized the importance of this project for our community. It is a difficult financial time for many. We are deeply grateful for the acknowledgment of Ossipee and the importance of outdoor recreational environmental opportunities for everyone in our community”
The FCPO is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization based in Ossipee. The mission is “to develop, promote, and sustain Constitution Park’s recreational and educational offerings for Ossipee and the surrounding communities.” For more information on the Deer Run All Accessible Trail project, or to learn about ways to support the initiative, please visit our Web site fcpossipee.org or contact Edwina at [email protected].
