Pictured on the left is our sweet friend Bauer!! 🤎

If you have not seen our previous posts about him, he is a 12 year old furry friend who has been fighting an auto-immune disease that is destroying his red blood cells. He has had more than 10 transfusions since October of 2023. He has required a lot of care and medications but he is a fighter! 🐾

We all know how expensive vet bills can get, if you’d like to donate to Bauer and his mom you can give us a call at 315-343-4300 to donate over the phone, or stop in to donate in person! If you cannot donate, PLEASE feel free to share this post. We all appreciate it! 🐶

Pictured on the right are brothers Oakley and Mosey. They are a couple of the dogs who have donated to our sweet boy! 🖤

Cali and Stewart here to give out a few reminders in honor of National Dog Month!

1. Remember, routine health care for your pet is very important! We recommend annual check ups to be sure your pet is in the best shape possible. These routine check ups ensure a good doctor/patient relationship.

2. Be aware of the things around you that may be toxic to your pet. There are many foods, human medications, and household items that may be harmful. These include things like chocolates, grapes, xylitol, ibuprofen, antidepressants, acetaminophen, and a variety of plants such as
Azaleas, Lillie’s, etc. Here is a website to refer to:

https://www.fda.gov/animal-veterinary/animal-health-literacy/potentially-dangerous-items-your-pet

3. Our pets can’t speak to us to let us know if something is wrong, pay attention to their behavior! Are they eating less, or drinking more? Not acting themselves or showing discomfort? Our pets get sick just like us, make sure you’re giving them the care they need!

Lastly… give them lots of love and attention! They deserve it! 🐾 🐶🐱💕

Meet Melissa, who has been here at Fruit Valley for 7 years now! Melissa is from Florida but mostly grew up in upstate NY. They have three cats, Spunky, Whiskey and Ziggy Lou Stardust. They have worked with animals for a total of 10 years since they also do pet sitting. Their favorite animal other than a cat would have to be an owl, since they’re rare to see, it feels special when you do! Growing up, they were the kid who would always be wandering off to explore bugs, frogs and other small animals. They had a pond in their backyard where they would spend hours catching frogs, fish and turtles. They also often fostered kittens who were dropped off at their property. Melissa’s favorite part of working in the veterinary field is being able to watch patients have amazing recoveries, and having the opportunity to play a role in helping them get better. Their hobbies include hiking nature trails, drawing/painting, listening to music, and spending time with their partner and step-daughter. 🥰🐱

This week we’d like to introduce one of our Animal Handlers, Isaiah!

Isaiah grew up in Bronx, NY and the Dominica republic. His favorite animals are the panther and wolf. He came to oswego to attend SUNY Oswego and has graduated with his bachelors degree in biology. He has one American bully named Adonis and is completely in love with any bully/bulldog breed that he encounters. Although he has been with us for only 6 months, he continuously shows his compassion for animals and is always willing to learn. His favorite part about working in veterinary medicine is meeting animals and seeing the patients improve. On his days off, Isaiah enjoys running, gaming, and working out.

If you see Isiah on your next visit, be sure to say hello 😊

Meet Lucas!

Lucas has been one of our animal handlers for about two years. He is known for his optimistic, funny, and gentle nature. Lucas loves puppy patients and conversation with owners. During his time working with us, he adopted two loving kittens named Mango and Pepper that he adores. When he finally gets a day off he enjoys volleyball, basketball, cooking, and mentoring cancer patients. Lucas finds the octopus to be very fascinating and smart and considers it to be one of his favorite animals.

Veterinary medicine has always been the goal for Lucas. When he was going through his difficult journey with lymphoma, he realized the medical field is where he wanted to be. Animals have always been a joy for him which is why he strives to be in the veterinary field. Lucas recently graduated from SUNY Oswego with a bachelors degree in Zoology and hopes to continue his education in the near future.

If you see Lucas during your appointment, make sure to say hello, he loves a good conversation:)

To end veterinary assistant week, meet Hailey!🐾

Hailey grew up in West Amboy New York. She is a Fur mom to a 3yr old Chihuahua named Huckleberry Finn who has driven her love for small dogs. When she is not working, Hailey enjoys hiking, thrifting, baking, and spending time with her dogs and boyfriend. Her favorite animal is the Atlas moth which reveals her passion to care for all species.

Her love for caring for animal has driven her to work as a vet assistant with us for 4 years and counting . Hailey earned a bachelor’s degree in Zoology at SUNY Oswego and is currently continuing her education. Her degree has given her experience with a wide range of species including reptiles, amphibians, birds, dogs/cats, rodents and fish. She has totaled about 8 years of experience with animals and has loved every minute. Hailey has now just started her very own side business as a pet sitter for her surrounding areas (Syracuse, oswego, perish).
