Hello! My name is VERSE, I am a 1 year old black lab mixed with a bundle of joy and excitement. Now, I must be honest with you: I have been known as the shy one around here, but once we get to know each other I will leave that lasting impression on you as one of the sweetest, most playful and affectionate companions you have ever encountered. I would love to spend the day running until your heart is content or even just snuggling on the couch together. Just don’t make me wake up to early 😉 I really love my morning beauty sleep.

I have been in prison since November of 2024, these handlers are really making me work. But I am glad to stay since they are making sure that I am the best version of myself for my future family, Could that be you???

My handlers told their boss lady that they don’t want to send me back to the shelter, so someone should open their door and heart to me so I can get that release date!

Currently there are 6 little puppies in here that I LOVE to play with, they break me out of my shell. I am confident, but I do get a little scared in the more packed and loud places in here.

If you are interested in bringing me home, please complete an application with Adams County Pet Rescue.

Thank you bunches!
With all the love in my heart,
Verse❤️🐾

If you look closely, you'll see a tabby cat tail in this bag. People wonder why we don't take feral or semi-feral cats in! Some people tell us that the cat is friendly and we find out the opposite is true and end up with a story like this one.
Today, an older gentleman came to the shelter with a cat that he had brought over in the front of his truck. How he got it into the truck must be another story. Looking out the window, we could see him struggle with the cat so we got the door open for him. We just happened to have a crate near by so we quickly grabbed it but as he tried to put the cat in, the cat lost his cool, used it's claws and got away.
The majority of you have never worked with feral cats and don't know what happens when you've got a feral cat loose in a building. They tend to defy gravity and end up flying around the room a high rates of speed with no thought in their minds but to escape. Feral cats just want to get free and they don't care what's in their way, humans or objects. They have a high preservation factor built in.
Despite being dangerous for the humans, it's dangerous for the cat too. They don't know what a glass window is and they will hit a window at full tilt causing injury to themselves. This cat hit the door windows, the window in the lobby and the cat room window multiple times before scrambling up Boone's cat tree where the owner tried to grab him and of course got his hand bit quite badly.
It took off again and we yelled for Shelbie to come help. Quickly opened our meet and greet door and hoped we could direct the cat into that room.
The owner left so we went into the smaller room to see how bad the cat was hurt and see if we could catch it without more trauma. We were thinking we would have to use a net but didn't even get to go pull the net out.
It flew around the room a few more times, climbed the curtains and finally hid under the bench. While we were trying to locate it under the bench, we moved a couple of bags of cat toys and the cat took off again and decided to dive into this bag with air conditioner parts in it.
One person held the top of bag closed while the other pulled the parts out and we were then able to put the bag and cat into a crate. Luckily after that whole event, the cat has nothing seriously wrong, just a bloody nose. Now we get to see if we can make friends with it!

Whimsy was found along the side of a country road along with another puppy. Sadly, the other puppy was too far gone and didn't make it.
Whimsy is over 3 months old and weighs in at 11 pounds. She's a large breed pup that's emaciated. It's tricky feeding these emaciated little ones but she's doing better and we hope to see her back to what a puppy should look like soon.

ADOPTED

Cutter looks like a short coat Border Collie! She was a stray that found her way to some great people who brought her in.
She's so smart and just the friendliest girl that loves to cuddle. She loves her toys and would enjoy kids. If she's a BC, she'll need mental and physical stimulation so keep that in mind if you put an application in.
Cutter: Border Collie type, 9 weeks, female

Here are the pups that came out of the orchard!
We would love to find a rescue that is able to socialize these pups with people. It's just not something we can offer at this time with our limited staff.
Or if there were adopters that want to adopt, that would work too.
They were born in an orchard to a Husky mom and dad is unknown. The saw people in the orchard but didn't get handled the way a puppy might when raised in a home with people around all the time.
We wanted to post sooner but we needed time to get their digestive issues on track. Subsisting on whatever they could find can make the transition to food difficult sometimes. They are doing well now and we need to find them homes asap.

Excel is a such a nice, sweet boy who didn't win the genetic lottery. He has severe hip dysplasia due to his breed. Excel may need surgery called FHO on his hips later in life, but currently does well on pain medications. He would need a home willing to put in the effort and finances to live a comfortable life.
In the months that Excel has been here, we've found out that he is an incredibly sweet boy that we all think the world of. He's friendly and smart. He's happy go lucky and is treat/toy motivated. He'll loose leash walk and he's been in with dogs that are picky about their partner.
He's just a great dog and we hope someone will give him a chance.
Excel: GSD, male, approx 3 yrs old.

ADOPTED

Fern was spotted by a bus driver on her morning route. Between routes she took jugs of water and food out. When she went back for the afternoon route, she noticed that Fern was still there so she drove back out to get her after work.
Fern is the goofiest girl and when she gets excited her muzzle crinkles up like she's trying to smile. It makes Anita laugh when Fern does it. She loves, loves people and lots of energy. She looks like a hound type.
Fern is ready for people that will love her and care for her. She never wants to be left in the middle of farming country alone to fend for herself.
Fern: female, Hound type, 13 weeks old adoption ready.
