šŸ›‡ Use your Manners! šŸ›‡
The Sniff test - Stop doing that!
The sniff test - a badly engrained habit that society has been taught, without a clear understanding of what they're actually doing.

šŸš©When you reach out towards a dog, you are using body pressure AT them, giving them no time to assess whether you are safe & whether they require further investigation to pick up your information. You are forcing an interaction of a relationship that hasn't had time to develop. To some dogs, this is quite rude & the reason a lot of dogs snap at or bite people. This can cause alot of behavioral issues because of layered stress due to forced interactions.

šŸš©If they are on lead, they have no where to go if they are sensitive to spacial pressure, so can end up shutting down, shying away or snapping at your hand so you back off. This is an example of how a dog is now using pressure to turn off pressure & make you back off so they aren't so stressed.

šŸš©People think by offering your hand it can give the dog time to sniff to know you're friendly... they can sniff without being forced to sniff your hand.Their noses are far more superior than ours & they don't need close contact forced upon them to smell you.

šŸš©Some dogs might not want to know you. You have no relationship with them and that's perfectly fine. They aren't your dog so you don't need to touch them or steal pats for your own satisfaction.

šŸ¤” If you are meeting a dog, what should you do?
āš Ask the owner if you can interact with their dog. Not all people want strangers touching their dogs. Especially strangers who you are unlikely to see again.
āš Stand up straight & relaxed, with your hands at your side.
āš Ignore the dog & talk to the owner.
āš Don't stare at the dog & don't try to force an interaction by going in for a pat. If the dog wants to know you, it will come up to you & sniff around. Usually they will move away & then come back for a second sniffathon. Some dogs will bunt your hands & wag their tails, which are good signs that you're likely an accepted new friend. Give them a few slow pats down their back (NOT THEIR HEAD) & then stop. Is the dog happy? Has it accepted your interaction? This will determine whether you can give it more pats.

šŸ¶This is a more stress free option for dogs & a reason why in consultations we can develop a good level of trust, especially with fearful dogs & aggressive dogs, without a bunch of negative side effects from forced interactions.

Itā€™s the season for ticks, some as small as poppy seeds, but they can make you and your pets sick.

How many dogs does it take to screw in a light bulb? The answer, of course, depends on the breed.

Golden Retriever: The sun is shining, the day is young, we've got our whole lives ahead of us, and you're inside worrying about a stupid burned-out light bulb?

German Shepherd: I'll replace the bulb after I've done a perimeter check to make sure that everyone is OK.

Border Collie: I'll do it, and I'll replace any wiring that's not up to code.

Dachshund: I can't reach the stupid lamp!

Poodle: I'll just blow in the Border collie's ear and he'll do it. By the time he finishes rewiring the house, my nails will be dry.

Rottweiler: Go Ahead! Make me!

Lab: Oh, me, me!!! Pleeeeeeze let me change the light bulb! Can I? Can I? Huh? Huh? Can I?

Doberman Pinscher: While it's dark, I'm going to sleep on the couch.

Mastiff: Mastiffs are NOT afraid of the dark.

Hound Dog: ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Chihuahua: Yo quiero Taco Bulb.

Irish Wolfhound: Can somebody else do it? I've got a hangover.

Pointer: I see it, there it is, right there...

Greyhound: It isn't moving. Who cares?

Australian Shepherd: First let me put all the light bulbs in a little circle...

Old English Sheep Dog: Light bulb? Light bulb? I can't see any light bulb!

It's never too early to start planning your defense strategy for the 2023 pest season. Know the foods to feed now to make your pet less inviting to pests later. And because what you find on your pet makes up only about 5% of the fleas in your living environment, stock up on these in advance.

Our wonderful Liesl. 7 yrs old and still acts like a pup
Lieslā€™s 7th Birthday was just a couple days ago. We got her from Black Forest K9 kennels- and has been the best family dog ever.

Her Dad was Ajax and mother was ? Seena I think ( Iā€™d have to look at the papers). Looks like a great Shepherd but has the temperament of a Lab. Our family absolutely loves her! I hope all of her brothers and sisters continue to be as healthy as Liesl has been.
Magnum (Kyra/Vegas 2014) enjoying a day of camping in early spring. He swam and hiked all day and was ready for a little rest by a warm campfire on a cool night!
Happy Holidays--This book quickly became one of my all time favorites and I'm helping spread the word! Thanks

Max still loves the water.
Don this is Max at 8 months. Thank you for taking the time to talk to me today.
Those are such quality dogs . I was raised in this same type of situation , You never get them out of your love after that .
Hi Don, Max is doing well. He weighs 52 pounds at 18 weeks was just wondering is this an average weight.
My Charlie! She is a pup from Ajax and Destiny. Always SO watchful of me (this was taken this morning, I went to an area of the basement she couldn't get to and it made her really concerned) and a great dog. Still can't thank you enough for bringing her into my life when I really needed her, she's my best bud.
