Cats, Cats, Cats
Would you believe us if we told you that, this year, kitten season never truly ended?
Typically, we can anticipate the ebb and flow of kitten season, with a surge during the warmer months and a slowdown in winter. But not this year. Weâve been inundated with kittensâmany of them sick and in serious need of care.
We could tell you about Jasmine, whose immune system turned against her, leading to the painful removal of all her teeth. Or Braille, the blind kitten who underwent extensive treatment just to save her eyes, even though sheâll never see.
There was the âappendage-less chapterâ: cats attacked, injured, and in need of life-saving amputations. Stubbs, for example, lost one leg entirely and part of another. And yet, every single one of these animals has fought valiantly to survive, thanks to the compassionate care they receive at Prairie Paws.
Every sick or injured cat is a drain on our resourcesâemotionally, physically, and financially. This year, weâve bottle-fed more kittens than ever before and devoted extraordinary attention to medical cases. And while we are blessed with a team of skilled staff and fosters, thereâs one thing we canât do: replace a kittenâs mother.
If you find kittens outside, please leave them where they are. Their mother is likely nearby, gathering food or watching from a distance. Moving them could endanger their lives, or lead to many, many sick cats -- similar to what happened this year.
But thereâs another way to help: donate to Prairie Paws this Giving Tuesday.
This year, weâre raising funds for our gas budget, which allows us to redirect more resources toward veterinary care. Every donation helps us save lives and continue our mission of compassionate care. Without your support, animals like Jasmine, Braille, and Stubbs might not have made it.
Together, we can give every animal the chance they deserve.
