Dear Prairie Paws supporters, I am writing this in hopes we find Leo a forever home. Leo has had quite the track record here. He was originally a transfer from another shelter back in 2022. I’m not sure how long he’s been in the shelter system as we have no records from before his transfer to us. In the time we’ve had him, he’s been adopted and returned a few times due to his UNIQUE personality.

Leo is an acquired taste. He’s not the right cat for everyone. He needs someone who understands him and loves him the way he is. He can be the sweetest cat and then the naughtiest cat, all in a matter of minutes. I truly believe he is an adult cat with single kitten syndrome. This is what we refer to as cats that never had another feline to teach them at a young age. He never learned that he plays too rough or that you’re not supposed to randomly bite people just for fun. He’s just a giant kitten still trying to figure out how to be a cat. He truly is a kitten in an adult body.

I’ve worked with TONS of cats in my time here at Prairie Paws. I can honestly say, Leo is one of a kind. This cat is by far one of my favorites as he always keeps you on your toes. He’s one of the most beautiful cats with his charming little orange mustache. His MASSIVE personality is just the icing on the cake. I truly believe the right person is out there that is willing to give him the forever home he deserves. I wish more than anything that I could take him home, but I know his person is out there somewhere.

I’m not sure how Leo would do in a home with another cat. Part of me believes he would be best in a home where he’s the only pet and part of me thinks he might benefit from having a buddy. We really won’t know until we try. That’s all Leo needs, is someone to try. Someone to give him a chance. Please share this post far and wide. Spread the word for sweet Leo. No animal deserves to spend its life in the shelter. There’s someone out there for him, we just haven’t found them yet.

Sincerely,
a hopeful shelter worker & Leo’s biggest fan🐾

My whole camera role is filled with pictures of Leo so please enjoy🥰

We have a few new faces here at Prairie Paws that you may not have seen yet. Velvet and V***n came in together as strays and never got reclaimed. They are both Mixed Breeds and very friendly. Velvet is 10 months old so still has a little puppy energy in her. V***n is only a year old and full of energy. They have been loving the snow so if you want a dog that loves being out in the snow they are your girls! Marston came to us as a Surrender and is shy at first but warms up to you very quickly! He knows how to sit and stay and likes the company of other dogs. He is a 4-year-old black lab that is looking for a forever home! Last but not least is Chanel. She was here as a puppy and got adopted and it didn't work out at her home so she came back to us and is now looking for a new home. She is a year old Shepherd mix that would love to have a new home. She is shy at first but warms up pretty quick. She also knows how to shake. If you would like to see any of these pups you can come in any business hours. We are open Monday-Friday 9-6 and Saturday and Sunday 1-5. You can also see them on our website at prairiepaws.org or give us a call at (785)-242-2967.

It’s not just the dogs who get to enjoy the snow. We decided to give Leo his own winter wonderland experience. Leo got a box full of snow and isn’t quite sure what to think of it, other than it tastes good😂

The number of strays entering the shelter has spiked again. Here are some tips to help reunite you & your lost pet. Let’s keep strays out of the shelter and get them back in their homes where they belong.

If you have lost a pet, please take action immediately. Here are some steps we recommend you to take to get your lost pet back home.

Post your lost pet on local animal pages. Ottawa/Franklin Co Lost Pet Alerts on Facebook is a great place to start.

Call your local veterinarians & animal shelters. We will take down a lost pet report containing information to help us identify your pet such as color, gender, spay/neuter status, age, breed, and any other identifying information that may be helpful.

Make flyers with photos of your lost pet to hang in local businesses, vet offices, and shelters.

Keep an eye on our website. You can see all the strays currently housed at the shelter at www.prairiepaws.org under the Lost/Found a Pet tab.

All strays we get in are immediately posted on the Ottawa/Franklin Co Lost Pet Alert Page on Facebook so be sure to keep an eye on there as well.

Most importantly, register your lost pet through the Petco Love Lost Database. This is a national database that can be accessed through our website. This database uses facial recognition to compare pets who are in shelters and found in the community with pets that are missing.

Please remember we are just a resource. It is your responsibility as the owner to do all of the above in order to find your lost pet.

Lastly, please keep identification on your pet. This is the easiest way to reunite you & your pet. A collar with a tag that has your phone number and/or a microchip. We sell custom dog tags right here in the shelter lobby. These tags range from $10-$20. We can also microchip your pet any time during open hours for just $10!!

Please share this post to spread helpful information‼️

Merry Christmas Eve Everyone!! We have some magnificent animals here at Prairie Paws but we just wanted to highlight a few today. They are all Spayed/Neutered, UTD on Vaccines and Microchipped. We have all sorts of different personalities, it just depends on what kind of personality you are looking for. Mistletoe and Nutmeg came in together and we highly suggest that they go together so they can stay together. They are all available on our website at prairiepaws.org and you are more than welcome to stop in during business hours. If you have any questions you can call us at (785)-242-2967.
Have a safe and Merry Christmas!!!

Happy Holidays from us at Prairie Paws! We have a couple of senior dogs who would love to get a home to lounge around at instead of the noisy shelter! Sofie is a sweet 6-year-old Pit that is looking for a home to call her own. If you want a dog to be a couch potato Sofie is your girl! Next up is Hachi, a 12-year-old Shiba Inu who you can't tell if he's a senior or not. He still gets around really well but would love to lounge around on a couch or bed. The shelter is not for seniors, they need a home to call their home this Holiday season! You can come in anytime during business hours and see them on our website at prairiepaws.org. If you have any questions you can call us at (785)-242-2967.
