The most important job of an instructor is keeping dogs physically and mentally safe. New dog owners often don’t know the things more experienced people take for granted, like that repetitive and concussive actions (jumping, for example) can permanently damage growth plates in puppies and young dogs. Some tricks like sit pretty and handstands can injure dogs who aren’t built for them. Agility equipment can be very dangerous if trained incorrectly – think about the falls that are possible from the dogwalk, the injuries that can occur from going “superman” off the A-Frame, or even the damage that can be caused due to not learning to jump correctly and taking out uprights on a jump.

The other aspect is mental safety. New trainers are excited about teaching their dogs, and sometimes have a tendency to push too hard too fast, creating a lack of confidence or enthusiasm in their dogs. Punishment-based training can cause dogs to shut down and give up. These are things an experienced instructor can help students with by showing students how to identify stress signals in their dogs and by teaching through positive methods for both student and dog.

If you think a plastic dog house is enough for your dog in this cold... Take a look.
This dog is dead, as are the pups she was carrying....she froze to death while inside her doghouse. This happened in NC. If your dog is kept outside, take a long hard look. Can you imagine the suffering this innocent creature endured? My heart aches and yours should too.
Get your dogs enough insulation and warmth or take them inside. No dog deserves this!!

Due to the extreme cold weather Sunday night thru Wednesday, any OUTSIDE dog that needs a place to stay out of the extreme weather, Country K9 Kennels will provide a warm place free. You must call ahead to reserve a spot! You must bring own food during their stay. All pets must be picked up Wednesday morning by 9am. Sunday drop off times are 4pm to 7pm.

📍 Just a friendly reminder to purchase your 2025 Putnam County Dog License before the end of January to avoid paying a penalty! Dog license are only $16 per dog and will go up to $32 per dog after January 31!

State of Ohio Law requires ALL dogs over the age of 3 months to have a current dog license!

⭐️ Dog license will be available at the Putnam County Dog Shelter on Saturday January 25, 2025 from 9 am - Noon and again on Wednesday January 29, 2025 from 5 pm - 7 pm. Cash or check can only be accepted at the dog shelter.

💻 You can also go online to purchase dog license at www.doglicenses.us/OH/Putnam . The online company does charge a processing fee.
