Nala the Cerebellar Hypoplasia Kitten

Nala is Dr. Hickie's cat. She is now ten months old. She first came into Dr. Hickie's life when she was about six weeks old. She has a disorder called Cerebellar Hypoplasia or Wobbly cat syndrome. It is thought that her mom, a feral cat, was exposed to the Panleukopenia virus when Nala was in the womb. This infection of the virus resulted in the cerebellum of Nala's brain to be underdeveloped. When Nala was first staying with Dr Hickie, she weighed less than one pound and fell over almost every step. It never slowed her down, and she was an inspiration to Dr. Hickie, who also has difficulty with her balance after the aneurysm that she suffered in her cerebellum. Today, Nala acts almost like a normal 10 month old cat. She has learned to curl her tail to help her keep her balance and she has a wide based stance to help her walk without falling over.
