Fun Fact Friday!

The only place that dogs sweat like us is on their paws, so instead, they pant to cool down. This is why it's so important to keep your dog cool on those warmer days.

So you've been wondering...

"How serious are intestinal parasites?"

The effects of intestinal parasites can vary significantly, depending on the parasite and the overall health of the dog. Effects of common parasites include :

🔸️Roundworms🔸️ Roundworm infections in adult dogs are often asymptomatic. In young dogs or severely infected adults, however, signs may include vomiting, diarrhea, weight loss, a dull coat, and a potbellied appearance. Roundworm larvae also migrate through the lungs as a part of their life cycle, so coughing may be observed.
🔸️Hookworms🔸️ Hookworms embed in the wall of the intestine, sucking blood from their host. Therefore, the most significant effect of hookworms is anemia, resulting in lethargy, weakness, and pale gums. Weight loss and bloody diarrhea are also commonly observed.
🔸️Whipworms🔸️Whipworms often cause bloody diarrhea in dogs. Additionally, affected dogs may be weak and may become increasingly debilitated over time.
🔸️Giardia🔸️ This protozoal parasite often causes severe watery diarrhea, which may or may not be accompanied by vomiting and weight loss.
🔸️Coccidia🔸️Although infection with this protozoal parasite is often asymptomatic in healthy adults, it may cause diarrhea and other signs of illness in puppies or debilitated adults.

Don’t forget to bring in your pet’s f***l sample!

Did you know that 1 in every 3 pets have a gastrointestinal parasite? Some of these parasites can be passed on to you and your family. We recommend a f***l check once a year and monthly preventatives to ensure your pet stays healthy.

Our f***l test now includes tapeworm antigen testing. Tapeworms are very difficult to find on a f***l sample, so now we can test if your pet is responding to tapeworms without having to find the actual worm.

Did you forget to bring in a sample? That’s ok, we can get one for you! (Your pet might like it better if you bring one in, though.)😊

Have you ever wondered why veterinarians recommend annual f***l testing and what exactly it's tested for? It’s not because we enjoy pet 💩.

Fecals allow veterinarians to check your pet for intestinal parasites, which are a major cause of infection in pets and also a concern for people.
