🎆 Happy Fourth of July! 🇺🇸 As we head into the holiday and celebrate with fireworks and fun, let's remember to keep our furry friends safe and calm. 🐾 Here are some tips:

KCREGAP family and friends…
sisters Sophie and Sissy need your help. This loveable pair came to REGAP recently and their situation is a difficult one. Sophie has end stage kidney disease and is undeniably bonded to Sissy. 😢💔

Both girls are 4 years old, around 50ish pounds & have been together since they were puppies. We’re looking for a foster or furever home for both girls. They love people and are sponges for affection. However, Sophie cannot tolerate cats or other dogs (except for Sissy).

We’re unsure of what Sophie’s life expectancy will be, but right now she is showing no symptoms of her illness. Both are very happy, personable girls. They love to play and go on walks (they’re both great on a leash). 💚🐾

For the home who fosters or adopts these pups, REGAP would pay for Sophie’s special kidney diet and anything else needed for her comfort in this hospice situation. Her adoption fee would be waived.
Sissy is fine with other dogs. Like her sister, she is not cat safe. When Sophie passes, Sissy will need a canine companion – be it a foster dog or a furever pup who joins the household (this new dog could not join the home until after Sophie passes). 🌈🐾

We want to give these girls the happiest lives by keeping them together and spoiling sweet Sophie as she lives out her final days. Can you open your heart and home to these sweethearts?

Due to the upcoming July 4 holiday and the kennel being full at that time, we’re working hard to get them placed by July 1.

Meet the first four Macau Greyhounds

Finn, Emma, Blink, and Amelia made the long journey from China to Kansas City, Missouri. They are at our kennel, awaiting a spa day with our volunteers and a trip to our vet. Then they will each make their way to their new foster homes and learn about life in a home with a family. Thank you to Save The Macau Greyhounds and GREY2K USA for your work that allowed KCREGAP to bring these dogs to KC and to find forever homes.

Our Story

Kansas City Retired Greyhounds as Pets (KCREGAP) is a volunteer-run, 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to finding loving homes for retired greyhounds. Since the organization began in 1990, more than 5000 greyhounds have found their forever homes in the Kansas City Metro area.

Though there are no longer greyhound racing tracks in Kansas, the National Greyhound Association remains headquartered in Abilene, KS, along with numerous greyhound breeding farms. Of these greyhounds, some never make it to the track, return to these farms after racing, or are used for breeding, and the lucky ones are then released to adoption groups to find their forever homes.

These dogs may be anywhere from under 1 year old to 8 or 9 years old when they come to our group. They then receive any needed veterinary care, including: spay/neuter, dental cleaning, vaccinations, heartworm preventative, and treatment for any intestinal parasites. The dogs are then placed in foster homes so that they can learn “house rules” as many have never been in a home before, and may have never seen stairs, have had a dog bed of their own, or played with toys. These special foster families help to make the dogs’ transition to their forever home a success.
