As we gear up for festive celebrations, letโs talk about pet firework safety! Fireworks can be a blast for us, but for our furry friends, they can be a source of stress and danger. Loud noises, bright flashes, and unfamiliar smells can cause anxiety or even lead to dangerous situations.
At Petworks Veterinary Hospital, we want to ensure your pets stay safe and calm during the festivities. Here are some tips to help!
Before any festivities/events, create a safe haven for your pet. Set up a quiet, comfortable space indoors where they can retreatโthink cozy blankets, favorite toys, and maybe some calming music to drown out the booms. Keep windows and doors closed to prevent escapes, as scared pets may bolt. Ensure your petโs ID tags and microchip info are up to date, just in case.
If your pet struggles with anxiety, talk to a member of the Petworks Veterinary Hospital team about calming aids or medications that can help them stay relaxed.
Finally, never bring pets to firework displays, and avoid using sparklers or small fireworks around themโthese can cause burns or ingestion risks. After the show, check your yard for debris that curious pets might chew on. If you notice signs of distress or injury, give Petworks Veterinary Hospital a call.
