As we gear up for festive celebrations, let’s talk about pet firework safety! Fireworks can be a blast for us, but for our furry friends, they can be a source of stress and danger. Loud noises, bright flashes, and unfamiliar smells can cause anxiety or even lead to dangerous situations.

At Petworks Veterinary Hospital, we want to ensure your pets stay safe and calm during the festivities. Here are some tips to help!

Before any festivities/events, create a safe haven for your pet. Set up a quiet, comfortable space indoors where they can retreat—think cozy blankets, favorite toys, and maybe some calming music to drown out the booms. Keep windows and doors closed to prevent escapes, as scared pets may bolt. Ensure your pet’s ID tags and microchip info are up to date, just in case.

If your pet struggles with anxiety, talk to a member of the Petworks Veterinary Hospital team about calming aids or medications that can help them stay relaxed.

Finally, never bring pets to firework displays, and avoid using sparklers or small fireworks around them—these can cause burns or ingestion risks. Summer is in full swing, and so are the backyard barbecues! While grilling out is a great way to enjoy the season with family and friends, it’s important to remember that some BBQ staples can create health risks for our pets. Here are a few pet hazards to be aware of during cookout season.

𝗔𝘃𝗼𝗶𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝘇𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗱𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘀𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗰𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗼𝘂𝘁𝘀:
• No human food like bones, fatty meats, or toxic treats (onions, garlic, grapes, chocolate).

• Keep pets away from hot grills and open flames.

• Secure trash cans to prevent scavenging.

• Provide fresh water and shade to beat the heat.
