Why a tattoo???

Adding a small tattoo when spaying and neutering serves as a permanent visual marker indicating that the animal has been sterilized.

Some people might wonder why we would need to tattoo a male dog when they get neutered.

This dog is a prime example of why. Visually it looks like he's already been neutered, but he hadn't. He has a condition called cryptorchidism.
Which means one or both testicles failed to descend into the sc***um. In this dog's case it was both. It is a common birth defect, affecting approximately 1-3% of dogs. Surgical castration is the recommended treatment to prevent testicular cancer and infertility. The retained testicle(s) are surgically removed from the abdomen and finding them isn't always easy.

It is not recommended to breed dogs with a history of this condition as the gene can be passed on for generations.

You never know what the future may hold and if the animal ends up in a shelter or rescue situation, this would prevent an unnecessary exploratory surgery.

Some of you may have noticed a piece of new decor hanging in the reception area. The girls and I decided to think outside of the box this year on a gift for Dr Riegler and Tony. We had so much fun replicating this retro family photo. This is something that not only will make them smile when they walk by but will remind them of this place in time and this special family they had when they are packing up their things in 10-15 years. 🥰
