🦴 Your Day of Errands Can Be a Training Opportunity You Don’t Want to Miss!

Take advantage of those everyday outings — they’re perfect for building real-world skills with your pup! 🐾

✅ Pack your high and medium value rewards.
💧 Bring a bottle or two of water to set you both up for success.
🏪 Double check that your stops are pet-friendly.

When training in public, always be mindful of your surroundings. Just because you love your dog doesn’t mean everyone entering or exiting an establishment is comfortable around dogs — especially our larger breeds. If you’re in a tight space, move aside and use the moment as a training opportunity to practice calm behavior and spatial awareness.

Now, that doesn’t mean you have to move for every person — your space matters too. The goal is to practice Pawsitive Training with both dogs and people for better shared experiences. 🐶💜

Today I brought Georgia, my skittish girl, out for a confidence-building field trip! New place, new scents, new sounds, and plenty of movement. I came in with the idea of shaping Georgia to play basketball 🏀 — but more importantly, I allowed her to choose her comfort level and pace.

She started with her tail tucked while walking the busy street, but as she observed and acclimated, her confidence began to grow on its own. By the end, she had relaxed, overcome her worries, and was calmly waiting for our car. 💪🏾✨

A few clips of shaping “touch” and just hanging out — small wins that build big confidence!

La Reyna is chillin’ on her “Place” while she dries — meanwhile, Georgia’s all set up for her turn 👑🐾

Behavior should be practiced everywhere — different spots, different setups, different vibes. A year ago, this whole bath setup would’ve had Georgia stressed 😬 but look at her now! We took it slow, built her confidence, and her sister’s been the best support system a girl could ask for 💕

💜🐾 Saige’s Progress — From Reactive to Responsive! 🐾💜

Just three days ago, Saige was reacting intensely to passing vehicles, people, and dogs. Today, she’s showing incredible improvement — calmer, more aware, and starting to make better choices on her own. 🌟

When working on connecting more desired responses to the world around them, remember:
💜 Move slow — rushing only adds pressure.
💜 Find reward values that match the challenge — the bigger the distraction, the higher the value!
💜 Start in simple, low-traffic areas, then gradually raise the level of difficulty as your dog’s confidence grows.

Progress like this comes from patience, consistency, and trust — and Saige is shining bright on her journey. ✨🐶

💜🐾 Layla — The Smiling Princess 🐾💜

The Smiling Princess and I enjoyed a beautiful success moment — walking through an art event with dogs popping up here and there, and she handled it like a champ! 🎨🐶

We didn’t get here overnight… but we got here — and that’s what matters in Life Training. 💫

🎥 Training in Action: Saige the German Shepherd 💜🐾

Meet Saige, a 1-year-old German Shepherd/Show Mix working hard to overcome reactivity to 💜 vehicles, 💜 bicyclists, 💜 people, and 💜 dogs.

In this session, I’m counter-conditioning Saige to feel comfortable around passing vehicles — helping her learn that movement near the street doesn’t have to be scary. 🚗✨

We’re working at a safe distance where she can stay under threshold and still think clearly. When practicing with your own pup:
🐶 Find your boundary line — the distance where your dog notices the trigger but can still respond to you.
⬅️ If you can’t get their attention, add more space.
➡️ If you can, stay there and reward only desired behaviors — like sniffing the ground, looking away, or offering a calm sit or down.
💜 Bonus: if your dog chooses to look at you, reward that too — it means they’re checking in and trusting you!

If your dog is too distracted to take treats, that’s okay — just use verbal praise or your positive reinforcement word so they know the behavior is rewarding.

🚫 Avoid pulling back on the leash — this can create opposition reflex, making your dog pull harder or resist coming closer.

This work builds trust, confidence, and emotional stability — one positive experience at a time. 💜

🎥 Training in Action: Loki Justyn 💙🐾

Loki, an 8-year-old Golden Mix, is practicing his “Place” cue — even with the vacuum running! 🌀👏

“Place” means having a designated spot where your dog knows exactly what behavior is expected. It’s not just a mat — it’s their calm zone, their job, their safe space. 💫

The beauty of this skill? You can take it anywhere! Whether you’re traveling, visiting friends, or out at a café, bringing their “Place” gives your fur baby comfort, confidence, and clarity in any environment. 🌍✨

Loki’s doing an amazing job staying focused and calm through distractions — building trust and confidence every step of the way. 💪🐶

🎥 Training in Progress: Avery Mina 💜🐾

Avery is a 9-month-old Golden Retriever currently in her Board & Train program, learning all about manners and life skills. Today’s focus — *shaping her to walk at my sides!*

At this stage, the *exact side position* isn’t the goal — what we’re really working on is building consistency and understanding of the behavior *before* adding cues. 💡

We’ve leveled up her practice by moving outdoors and using a 50’ lead. This helps Avery learn how to make good choices and stay connected without feeling tethered to the human. 🌳✨

Every step is a building block — confidence, clarity, and teamwork in motion! 💜

🐾 Meet This Week’s P4PT Crew! 🐾

We’ve got a full (and amazing!) lineup of pups in training!

🐶 Avery – A rescue puppy working through behavior challenges like resource guarding and reactivity on the cusp of aggression. She’s in our Board & Train Program, focusing on helping her feel safe, confident, and successful in the world.

🐕 Loki – Another rescue pup enrolled in Day Training. His training starts the moment he’s picked up as we work through car anxiety and separation anxiety, building calm and confidence in all environments.

🐾 Teak – All puppy energy! Teak is learning impulse control and leash manners through structured, positive sessions that help channel that energy into focus and fun.

🐕‍🦺 Molly – This smart girl has been running the show for a while, so we’re helping her learn to tune into her humans, walk politely on leash, and enjoy teamwork again!

Each Day Trainee receives a minimum of 3 hours of hands-on training before pick-up and, if social, structured social time during the day. I only take 2 Day Trainers per day to ensure each dog gets individualized attention. Owners receive daily reports and at-home practices to continue progress.

🗓️ Day Training runs Monday through Friday

July 4th is Next Week — Let’s Be Better Humans

Fireworks may feel like celebration to some, but to many — especially our dogs, wildlife, and veterans with PTSD — it’s a nightmare. 💔

Here’s your reminder:

DO NOT leave your dogs outside during fireworks

Use dog ear muffs or play brown noise to soften the impact

Create a calm, secure space indoors

Be mindful of your neighbors and your environment

The loud explosions don’t just vanish into the sky — they cause:

Trauma and panic in pets

Wildlife to flee, abandon young, or die in fear

PTSD flare-ups in veterans who sacrificed more than most will ever understand

And honestly… in today’s world, we should all ask ourselves:
What are we even celebrating anymore?
When so many of the values we once stood for are illusions — maybe it’s time to replace blind celebration with intentional compassion.

Be thoughtful. Be kind. Be better.

06/10/2025

Socializing your dog isn't about forcing playtime with every dog or letting every stranger reach out for a pet. It’s about helping your dog feel confident and safe in the human world.

That means exposure to:

New environments

Strange smells

Sudden sounds

Other animals like ducks, squirrels, and birds

Your job? Reinforce calm, desired behaviors—especially the ones your dog offers on their own.

When you do choose to let someone greet your dog, set the standard:

No pulling

No jumping

No overexcitement

You’re not just walking your dog—you’re training in real life. Make every outing count!
