Wings to New Horizons is a not for profit organization who rescues neglected and abandoned birds, giving them a home where they may recover and possibly create a new generation of offspring if the opportunities present themselves. Any money acquired will help Wings to New Horizons build an avian specific veterinarian clinic; the need is extremely great. Anything left over will be used for bird fee
ds and reparations to the Aviary as well as a repairing a greenhouse on the property that will later be used to create a sustainable source of income to take care of these wonderful animals. The closest avian specific hospital is in Tampa FL, over an hour away, and worst of all most veterinarians only receive two weeks of any avian (bird) training in vet school, leaving the birds with hardly any fighting chance for survival. Without facilities like Wings to New Horizons, these birds are as good as dead. What started Wings to New Horizons on its mission of rehabilitating birds and properly managing these endangered creatures was the extinction the birds were facing, as well as saving these birds from the circumstances they have been dealt. The average larger bird lives to be over 80yrs old (Longer than the average human). What often happens is that people buy these birds as pets, the owner dies, and the bird is left to its own devices, in a cage, by itself. Parrots will become extinct if they are not properly managed. US import stations were closed in the year 1995, throughout the world countries have stopped exporting their native parrots. Like humans, these birds have similar reproductive cycles, and sometimes these birds do not reproduce. Wings works with many of Central FL's zoos, local supermarkets and veterinarians to ensure people know how to take care of these delicate creatures and make sure that they receive the proper nutrition they need to grow, heal, love and become trusting of humans once again after they have been treated so cruelly.
