Meet Billy Goat (BOGO for short). When I picked up Lucy, his mama, they told me “fun fact…she *might* be pregnant”. Nearly 5 months later, can confirm, we bought 1 and got 1 for free. 😂 Mama and baby are doing well, and even tho she hates us, she lets us touch him, so I’ll call that a win!
Remember how Lucy “might” have been pregnant when we got her. About 2 weeks ago I started to suspect she was, and I knew she’d deliver during the winter storm (yes, in TX 2 days of ice/snow counts as a storm). So far one baby!

This beautiful Sebastopol gander is still looking for some ladies of his own. He’s white, but a color carrier (parents were lavender and blue saddleback). Smooth breasted, so if you’re having issues with feather quality, he’d be a great addition to your breeding program.

Made some huts out of ibc totes for the hoofers today…so far, both boys seem to enjoy them! Lucy is being a little picky and hasn’t investigated yet. These will either get clad in pallet wood, or have a trim box made to give them a more finished look.
Sorry for the voice, but I’ve been reading about not touching ram lambs on the tops of their heads because it encourages them to push, a precursor to ramming. Shaun doesn’t agree, and would like to continue to receive head pets.

Today we added Dirk the GOAT to the farm…Shaun is very interested in becoming friends (until he notices the camera), and Lucy isn’t so sure she’s ready to play yet (video in comments, lol). We got Dirk as a companion for Lucy, because unfortunately, we lost Bertie last week. 💔 I think our sheep/goat herd is complete for now, at least until we know if Lucy is going to be a mom. Stay tuned!
So what had happened was…if you give a farmher a sheep (or she buys herself one), she’ll want that sheep to have a friend. So she’ll find a cute little black goat (meet Bertie), and bring that goat home to be friends with Shaun the Sheep. They’ll get along GREAT. So great, in fact, that they’ll have to be separated until Bertie is old enough for those kind of shenanigans. Then Bertie will be sad and lonely, and need a friend, so the farmher will get a SECOND goat…meet Lucy (bigger goat in pic 2). Lucy is Bertie’s real life sister, and now they’re BFFs on my farm. Oh, and just for sh*ts and giggles, there’s a non-zero chance that Lucy is in a family way, so in the end, one sheep MAY be one sheep and 3+ goats. 😬
It finally happened!! Black Sheep Farm has a black sheep now!! Meet Shaun the Sheep!! He’s still a little unsure of us and getting settled in, but he’s so adorable and will be a great organic lawnmower!! 🖤

First family photos! Turns out, Mia was only on 11 eggs...6 have hatched, 2 are now in the incubator, and 3 weren’t developed. Not bad for a breed that’s said to have poor fertility!
Mia has 5 goslings so far, and I was able to see her nibble at the shell of an egg that has pipped. I had no idea that mama sometimes helped the baby out!
We have goslings!! Two so far (she’s on a nest of 12)!! 🖤
