Hog mom started back to school yesterday! Please be patient if I'm slow to reply. All the babies are doing great! I will get weights on Saturday along with a quick updated photo. 🙂

Super quick update on foster babies, 2 out of 3 survived! The older babies are now eating crumble and letting these babies eat without a problem. Felicity is still producing plenty to sustain the boys. Hopefully, she can get them to weaning age. ❤️ I have not supplemented in two days, and they have maintained their weight.

I'll get better pictures very soon. 😁 (I'm leaning towards keeping the dark boy.)

If you are looking to volunteer, check out Safaris Sanctuary!!

Safaris Sanctuary is a non-profit 501c3 exotic wildlife Sanctuary. Run solely on volunteers and community service hours.
We can use volunteers as young as 14 if responsible. If younger, must be with parent till established.

Internship programs are available. Must be 18 to train in cats.
4-5 day week minimum to learn and retain information.
Duties include feeding, scooping p**p, making food bowls, and dishes, changing/scrub water, cleaning, grooming, documentation, and attention to detail....

Generally, our day goes as follows:
8am till about 10am, upper level, with barnyard 🐔 wolves 🐺 foxes.

10am till about noon, indoor animal house, with birds 🦜 reptiles 🐍 rodents, pigs.

12 noon till 2ish we do carnivores 🐅 and bears 🐻.

Note you won't go in with carnivores. But will learn to prepare diets, help with clean up, dishes, raking...

It takes time to build up to many of the animals, so the more you come, the more you get to work with.

Baby update 8/10

2 out of 3 babies survived overnight. Foster momma is doing good! She doesn't want me to touch them, so I'll be giving her space. I'm happy she took them in, and the babies are nursing! Felicty's babies are getting a lot of socializing, so it's a win-win. 😁

This sweet little thing has the cards stacked up against her. Her mom isn't a good momma. 😢 She moves the babies under her water bottle and leaves them. She did this her first litter, too! After the third attempt to warm babies and put them back, I have decided it would be best to try to hydrate and put with a momma who already has babies. This will be challenging since hers are already 3 weeks old and huge compared to her & her siblings.

Quilling Soaks

Warm bath soaks for quilling babies works amazing!

Fill your tub with warm water up to the hedgie's legs. Gently pour warm water on their back as long as they are relaxed and not stressed out, repeat so the skin can moisten, and their adult quills can come in easier. Once you're done, completely dry your hedgehog before returning to its warm cage. (No need for soap for soaks.)

The bathing schedule I follow is:
- Quilling Soaks for quilling babies, as needed.
- Full baths no more than once a month or earlier if needed.
-Foot baths as needed to daily for some.

Baby picture delay!

I accidentally did a master reset on my memory card while uploading the new baby updates yesterday. I lost many years of photos. 💔

With it being finals week, things are hectic. I will not have time to redo them until Wednesday. Once I finish getting updates sent out to families, I will retake baby pictures for the website & post the newest litters to the nursery page. ❤️

PSA 🔥🔥🔥

Lately, I have had so many hog families trying to buy this Simple Deluxe heat setup...DON'T DO IT.... it is a fire hazard.

The dome in this heat setup doesn't have a ceramic socket!! When I send supply lists, it isn't to be picky. It is out of the best interest of my hedgehogs. IF you stick to the supply list I send out, you shouldn't have to exachage anything... I realize this may be cheap, but is it really worth your safety?

The CHE heat setup consists of FOUR pieces: One dome per every 4 square feet of enclosure.
1. Thermostat
2. 150 watt CHE
3. 8.5"-10" dome WITH a ceramic socket
4. Digital Thermometer
